I thank you very much for this video. 2 shops took advantage of me on a missing engine problem on my c15. Said it was bad fuel. I told them it was a injector issue but instead of hooking up a scan tool they went the other way. I found number 6 had a loose hold down and was missing blue second o ring allowing air into my fuel tank and disabling number 5 pushing air into that one too. I SAVED $6000 By doing this job myself. THANK YOU.
Am a maintenance mechanic for an offshore installation facility, Your videos have been of tremendous help to me especially with the diesel caterpillar engines. Recently Cat C18 was added to the equipment list but came with no manual , though I have ordered them, but with your videos on Cat C15, I have been able to perform some maintenance work so far but still need to learn more about the engine. Our main engines are cat G3512 and G398. Thanks a million for the knowledge you impact.
I learned a trick at a Cummins class years ago. Take a wooden broom handle, or same size dowel, saw a 1" long slit on one end. Then grind a taper on the same end to roughly match the taper of the cup. Slide a triangle piece of Red scotch bright pad into the tapered end slit. Now you have an injector bore cleaner.
That's a cheaper solution than the $100 extended angle die grinder I bought, now you tell me! Luckily I have good luck just spraying the bore with brake clean usually.

Awsome video ,I have I had a mechanic change all 6 of my injectors and after he got done not even couple hours later got diesel in oil,opened up engine and found the cap was cracked took it back to parts store and they fixed it put it back together and again has diesel in fuel opened it up and another injector is cracked ,not sure if the mechanic is messing them up or got some bad injectors or mabee something else is causing it ,any ideas on what it could be??

Second is only when it's it's for the weekend I go to start up my 04 C15 it cranks and cranks hard to start smokes white smoke very heavy for 3 -4 seconds doesn't do it again until it sits again over the weekend.

Do you have the torque spec for the 3 bolts with studs coming out of them on the rocker hold down rod and also the 3/4 inch nuts on top, for a MXS Acert?

I had a question I have a 3406 and wanna upgrade my injectors to 59 series what mod do I need to do to be able to use those injectors thanks
So if I wanted to replace the injector cups and injector there is no need to bar the engine to TDC, I would “simply” tear down jakes and rockers and reinstall? Then once that jobs done I would bar the engine to find tdc cyl 1 and start running the overhead procedure, do have this right? I’m gathering all the tools, parts and supplies to get this done and just taking as many notes along the way. Thanks for the knowledge you pass on to us

Got diesel in my coolant on a Cat 3406E. Im going to pull the injectors and replace the injector cups and O rings. Do i need to position the motor in any specific orientation (for example piston 1 at Top Dead Center on the exhaust stroke) before taking the injectors out, or do I only need to worry about that when doing the overhead after I get everything back into place? Also, is there a coolant drain plug on the block of a 3406E and if so, where is it?
Watching this video I was able to save about 4000 dollars doing the injectors myself on my c-15 6nz engine. Thank you for making this video.

What's the fuel burn on a Cat C32A marine rated at 1925hp? I see information on the c32, but there a lower horsepower and the charts are complex to understand.

What about any kind of valve adjustment on the jake or the air valve actuators when changing injectors on a c15 cat motor.
I think I mentioned in the end of the video that it is good idea to have a complete overhead done after doing injectors. Since the overhead is off anyways, you can kill 2 bird with one wrench.
hey adept, my company has a cat generator with a c15 engine. It has set up for about 2yrs. when we tried to crank it the engine is siezed up. we are thin king about pulling the injectors to relieve compression, and pouring marvel mystery oil in the cyllinders, letting it sit a couple days, vacuming it out and trying to turn the engine over manually to free it up. I was just wondering if you have any thoughts on this????
If you can show about the adjusting the valves on a 1989 cat motor says 400hp on valve cover, it wood be greatly appreciated and the fuel injectors . Like you showed on this c15 cat just now,so I got the 3406B saying 400hp on valve covers. +Adept Ape I'm seriously thinking about pursuing a career with CAT. And I was wondering what it's like? When working for CAT, can you work in a specific criteria like just engine, suspension, electrical, work? Or is it engine, hydraulic, etc?
+Maxx Edwards So if your working for Cat you'll actually be working for your local dealership, you probably know that already. Yes there are different departments for the mechanics. There is a weld shop, truck shop, generator shop, industrial engine, earthmoving, hydraulic bay, CRC (engine rebuilds), and field service. Pretty good diversity of positions. There is also mining, marine, logging, and asphalt depending what part of the country your in. Hope that helps you out. I get a lot of Cat specific employment questions maybe I should do another career video.
If you could do a video on CAT careers for diesel mechanics, that would be so awesome. I would love to hear about all the details for the options, it would help me tremendously! :)

99 c15 white smoke ,smell like antifreeze on start up sputters and puffs white smoke between gears, haven't notice moisture in oil pulls heat great after sputter i was wounding if coolant is getting into cylinders thru injector cups or seal ?

Hello, any ideas on where to look for help with replacing the o rings around the injectors on a 3306? It is on an older military generator set that got hot and now leaks coolant around each injector. Thanks
+Justin Hoehner I did an in frame on a 3306 engine last year with the pencil nozzles. Does the engine run? The reason I ask is because if coolant is coming out around the injectors you probably have a cracked head or head gasket that is sending coolant into the combustion area.

You said the cylinder was getting fuel due to that broken o-ring. Could that issue be resolved by simply putting a new o-ring on it? If it really necessary to replace an otherwise working injector?
I just put a cylinder head on a c15 acert (BXS).My buddy who helped, installed the rockers. I was below handing up parts and didn't witness the installation.
The jakes dont work now(they did before tear down). The lash seems to be correct.My question is, does the shaft that holds/pivots the lifters install in a certain orientation inorder to allow the jake housing to fill with oil? The plungers on the cam side of the rockers are very loose(1/8-1/4 inch of play) and the only thing that seems to explain this is that the jake housing isn't getting ANY oil.

I have a c15 cat "03" Peterbilt and getting fuel down in the oil pan. Is it the injectors or the fuel pump in front of the motor. Where do I start to correct the problem? What happens if I keep running it?

Yes it is a good idea. I did a quick check of the overhead on this engine, but am going to do a full C15 overhead adjustment video in the future and that is why I didn't include the adjustment in this video. Thanks for the comments.

Hello i had all my injectors tested and 2 of them were faulty so i bought 2 and the for remaing were cleaned up and resealed but the seals are not the same color as the 2 i bought, do you think that could cause trouble later on ?
My e model starting knocking bad and black smoke outta stacks what could itbe?
So i get a,c15 acert and it started to building up psi in the cool system and it was blowing all the heater hose and there was oil in the coolant and what do you think it is
Robert Cass it could be lots of things but cylinder compression is definitely getting into the system. Watch his videos on bottle test and such. Good vids.

if you remember when I was turning the engine the opposite side and adjusted them and after a week when I got back from a treep I corrected them
I'm governed at 68 on cruise control only 66 would my injectors mess up if I leave the pedal pressed for couple hrs even though it only gets to 68 and cuts after that I have a c15
+gus0440446 That wouldn't hurt the injectors because the ECM just restricts the fuel rate once it sees you have reached road speed, so it is controlling the throttle to some extent when it's floored. It wouldn't hurt them.
Wat about I have a c15 6nz, and everytime I start it (after short term of it sitting) it blows white smoke out the exhaust. Smells like Raw fuel. That would be a leaking injector correct?
caterpillar 6ts in a 98 379 no check engine lights but you can hear a pop through the exhaust no abnormal smoke would it be an injector problem?

I was just curious to know if you found it hard learning to be a diesel tech from previously being an automotive guy. Originally I was planning on going into the auto industry, but changed my mind over to diesel in hopes of making more money. I'm just getting at that I know a lot more about auto and gasoline cars than I do diesel, and didn't know how much of a difference there really was. I'm enrolled to go to UTI next fall in the diesel program but I was just curious on what you thought. Love your videos, appreciate all the info! Thanks!
+Tj Willians If you understand the principles of an automotive engine, you can understand the Diesel fine. A Diesel, while heavier and more expensive, is somewhat simpler. There is no spark system to worry about, many are inline 6 engines so there is only one valvetrain. No timing belt to worry about and no intake control system for the throttle.
my engine is a 2003 c15 6nz , i didnt understant about the exhaust manifold ? mine is a 3 pc manifold ive changed gaskets on it , as well the Turbo 5 months ago NOT RELATED TO MY PROBLEM i messed it up myself trying to install live and learn ,
as far as pricing i found on ebay for $140.thru $180. is that what you think the Cat remans you mention costs?
Cat Reman injectors are much more than that. The ones on eBay are probably remanufactured by a fuel shop somewhere but not Cat. Cat remans are probably in the 400-600(depends on horsepower and serial number) dollar range per injector. I've never put aftermarket injectors in an engine so I can't say how they will run compared to genuine CAT Reman ones. The 6NZ C15 is ones of the best engines ever made in many Mechanic's opinion.
What can you tell me about fts and fls settings
We have a 6NZ motor that was flooded in 5ft of water in Hurricane Harvey. If I remove the injectors and turn the motor over to drain any excess water, will I need to readjust ?
+Lisa Adcock Was the entire crankcase filled with water? If just a little water for into the oil you don't need to remove the injectors and evacuate the cylinders, but if you do, you should redo the overhead adjustment.
