how to replace a switch with 3 wires

I’m completely lost. I ran power to a box for my first switch and then I also ran a three-way wire from that to another switch and from that box regular 14 to wire to my ceiling light fixture. The first box that you showed doesn’t explain about the power, entering the box and the three-way line exiting the box.

this is not about running wires but u can look up blueprint (pretty simple)

But I disconnected ALL wires from both three way switches and one wire group was showing all three wires as being hot! How is that even possible?

I was trying to determine which wire group was coming directly from the panel

you need to disconnect second switch as well to define your line and load now. usually twisted wire around 2 travelers is line/load

I did in fact disconnect both switches. Maybe my GREENLEE voltage detector is faulty because ALL conductors were showing HOT in the one box.
