  • For this 10x10 diorama project, I wanted to challenge myself and build the famous Mystery Shack as featured in Alex Hirsch’s cartoon series Gravity Falls. The cabin was built using clapboard sheet styrene, and all of the detail parts were 3D printed. The roof shingles were made using brown paper, and the spruce trees were a combination of bamboo skewers, florist wire, and ground foam. The interdimensional portal was built using a variety of 3D printed parts and acetate sheet stock. Twelve volt LEDs were embedded in glue gun-filled cylinders and tinted using translucent blue sandwich container lids to created the glowing transporter beams. The entire model was painted with inexpensive acrylic paints and weathered with an India ink isopropyl alcohol wash.
The project took approximately two weeks to complete and was a lot of fun to build.
    Thanks for watching!

Absolutely insane, looks realistic, and even includes all the details of the actual shack, as a BIG fan of gravity falls I approve of this. Genuinely though it looks sick keep up the good work.

The mystery Shack is the anchor location for a cartoon series called Gravity falls - a very popular (and well done) animated show that could be described as the cartoon version of X-files and Twin Peaks.

For any of the joints that were styrene against styrene, I used styrene cement. 3D printed parts attached to styrene were attached with super glue. Scenic materials used diluted white glue as an adhesive. Thanks for watching!
