Regarding the PAL games, here's a comment from a Discord I'm on:
"The leading theory is that NTSC versions didn't include french localization until well into the PSX's life, so in order to sell into Canada they just decided to make one SKU for everywhere that's not Japan.
And the cheapest way to do that was to use pal isos for whatever games didn't have multilanguage support in ntsc builds"
This is the only thing I've heard that makes total sense.
Of my PS1 collection, I found Bugs Bunny Lost in Time (English, Spanish, French), Bust a Groove (English, Spanish), Porsche Challenge (English, Spanish, French) and Turbo Prop Racing (English, Spanish, French) had language options in NTSC. Not that many games offered it here at the time, that didn't really change until at least PSP and PS3 came around.
Also the PAL versions are usually more censored than the NTSC games so maybe they did it to keep it at a lower rating.
Quit making excuses. This is a terrible product from beginning to end and should have been better. There is no reason for PAL games to be on the American version of this. Point blank. Absolutely none. I'm not buying this shit. Sony dropped the ball and were lazy. Look at the box for how lazy they were.
@@blackraven85_1 He never made any excuse, he merely stated a possible reason for why Sony decided to put PAL versions of the games on an American release. If anything, he's agreeing with you because he's basically saying Sony cut corners to save money.
Also, Pal games ran at a higher resolution, 574i i think as opposed to 480i in north america, PAL also had better color reproduction. its all a Trade Off. Neither is better or worse. PAL games will just run like 0.001% slower, which most people wont notice unless you have really bad OCD. This also won't affect CD Soundtracks, the music runs 1:1 speed regardless. only the gameplay would be mildly slower.
I can completely understand why they’re not on this, but not having a single Crash Bandicoot or Spyro The Dragon game on this thing looks incredibly silly.

Regarding the PS1 Laser issue, it was the heat generated that warpped the lenses housing mechanism, so the laser didnt sit at the correct distance/angle from the CD. Turning it upside down remedied this issue
So much :plur for the wonderful 90s electronica playing during these games.
One thing to consider about not including an AC adapter, you don't have to match to each country's mains voltage or change anything besides the packaging.
Dont see how thats a plus for consumers. Different regions just usually get different plugs or one standard and people use their own converters at home or buy one. An adapter will cost more than a converter.
@@MuradBeybalaev Did you not pay attention to the video? It runs off a USB micro. It runs off direct DC. The owner has to supply the AC adapter, so Sony doesn't have to put in a 100v, a 110v, a 220v adapter. It's not a good thing that they're doing. I'm just saying that leaving it out makes the package effortlessly almost-universal.
@@MuradBeybalaev Yeah, it is definitely bizarre from that standpoint. I'm sure there are insubstantial enough AC adapters that people will try to use on this thing, so I hope they're at least advising people to get the right amperage.
@@orijimi low current won't fly your ship but it also won't fry it. High current should never fry electronics as well, except those designed by idiots. You never know. Some engineers decide to cut costs designing circuits (by a tiny amount) by wiring transistors straight to current source assuming a USB power standard but as we've seen - it changes wildly without changing the form-factor.
Also depends on heat dissipation in place: heatsinks, fans. I'm guessing there are no fans.
Actually, I gotta take a look at some teardown video of this thing at some point...

I think if people look into it, it comes from an EU ruling that certain USB powered products should not come with a USB plug as they are ubiquitous nowadays. It was some attempt to reduce wastage. Of course it also benefits companies from a cost cutting exercise, but they are regulated to do so by the EU.

Oh, and yes, that green piracy screen was in all PAL territory games.

@@johnanderson-wo7mi Licensing certainly accounts for some of it, but there's a whole bunch of Sony first party stuff, or games by companies since acquired by Sony, that are missing too. How is Warhawk not on here?

Does anyone remember GTA III had the top down view as an option? The first time I saw someone playing GTAIII I knew exactly what was. I was like holy shit, they made that game I used to play all the time into a 3d world.

The lack of THP2 is such a let down but those music tracks must be a licensing nightmare, but if i don't know what its like when worlds collide while getting a vhs tape off the roof of a school by grinding up a wire its not a real Tony Hawks game!

Re: Rockstar and GTA: Rockstar is the rebranded BMG Interactive that Take Two bought. The Housers worked for BMG and stayed on after the purchase.

Really appreciate the overview on the PS1 Classic. As loved the banter between you two, reminded me of "Mystery Science Theater" several times during the game play. Keep up the great content.
1:04:47 they put the radio signal on the back of the box for that PS2 collection too. Love the seemingly endless commitment to that part of the game with every re-release.

So this is a weird mix of PAL and NTSC and I have a feeling that the PAL and USA version of the PlayStation Classic are going to be the same software in a different box so now I really want to look at the Japanese PlayStation Classic

I love Jeff, but he never liked Resident Evil 1 and thinks MGS doesnt have enough gameplay? These games were great for their time, always will be. Early 3D had lots of limits, so creating something memorable was about style, sound and play ability. Getting good camera control and finer gameplay details took awhile to get better.

One time back in the 90's my father was talking to me at the dinner table. I didn't approve of what he said so I told him to calm down Shakey Jake. Man he got so mad! My mother tried to calm him down but he replied "Sandra he called me Shakey Jake". My friend and I burst out laughing because he had no idea what it was in reference to. The two of us still laugh about it from time to time all these years later.

It's a fantastic puzzle game and the epic soundtrack is the icing on the cake. I wish they had spent more time on it, instead of skipping it almost immediately.

The PS1 defined my childhood and the 90s video game industry yet Sony somehow half assed this. This console deserves better as it has a fucking amazing legacy.
Instead of 20 titles, Sony should have added at least 40 titles to the official lineup of the Sony PS1 classic; this way the console could have included a much more varied selection of video games. 🙄😮😜🤔
The final MSRP would probably go up to $199.99 but it would be a worthy purchase in my honest opinion.

These days I prefer to revisit this era in the form of current gen remakes. If I'm feeling really nostalgic I can always hook up my original modded PSX. Somehow that laser is still kickin'.

Great video, GB! I remember being in high school and trading everything I had at FuncoLand for an original PlayStation, a crappy 3rd party player two controller, tomb raider, and Battle Arena Toshinden. Many great memories. Rungo's music is still awesome.
With that, I was so excited for this mini when released and after everything I'm so out. Kinda sucks. Oh, well. Life goes on.

I'm surprised that Brad doesn't seem to know basically anything about the GTA games before the third one.
The time limit on GTA was the demo (at least on PC). I played it so obsessively the game became “see how much you can do in these five minutes” and a few years later when I got the full game I didn’t know what to do without that constraint so it was a surprisingly empty feeling. Still kind of an underrated game though!

Yep. Sony confirmed nine of their twenty games are PAL versions. Tekken 3 is one of them.

Ken was considered OP in Puzzle Fighter. Donavon was considered high tier. The HD version has 4 modes including a rebalanced version of the original .

what you get for $100 is good value, the PS2 on PS4 games are $9.99- $20.99 a piece, there are 20 games on the PSOne classic console, if every PSOne classic game was on PS4 and was $9.99 a piece then the lowest price for all of those 20 PSOne classic games on the PS4 would be, $9.99x20=$199.9 your getting all of those PSOne classic games and the PSone classic console with 2 controllers all for $100, it is a good deal

I personally think the playstation classic is underrated. Even though most of these games are not popular they are not like as bad as 3DO games
I didn't think I'd be able to notice the PAL / NTSC thing until I watched y'all load up Toshinden, and kept wondering why it felt so off.

Actually the US version of the NES and SNES classic came with a AC Adapter.
Appreciate the hell outta this: was disappointed when I saw the game line up but still been undecided whether to get it or not unless it gets hacked. Seeing the thing in action and just your reactions going through the titles has helped a lot. I already own a PSone and even with rarer games I could still build a decent collection of games of my own for the same/less price of the console. It's not worth buying this just to get a slightly better picture on my TV for a couple games
They should of put Heart of Darkness on this thing.

GTA 1 Demo on Windows XP............countless hours spent.......those were the days
I still have my ps1 in a shoebox and the only game I ever had desire to go back and play was tekken 3...and maybe Soul Blade. I’m curious if anyone would find this product engaging. The one thing I find fascinating is the audio tracks that are on full blast in a lot of these games. Developers must have loved that CD audio.
