  • (Length X width X height, divided by 231) is the formula to tell how many gallons a square or rectangular aquarium is. This won't work on aquariums with curved glass or curved acrylic.

      I know this is like a year old, but anyone setting up a new semi-acuatic turtle tank, turtles absolutely love swimming, and no matter how big the turtle is they are naturally strong swimmers. Do not be afraid to fill your tank as high as possible leaving just enough room for a basking area or two. Res, painteds, and other basking turtles will spend upto 85% of their time in water. Dont be afraid of them drowning. They won't. The more swimming area they have the more exercise and mental stimulation they get. I have raised multiple juvenile turtles of many species up to maturity and this is one of the biggest misconceptions I hear in the hobby.

  • @andrewdjburke
    @andrewdjburke Před 6 lety +15

    If you calculate in feet, say a 1'x1'x2' tank, then you take the product of the three numbers(cubic feet, in this case 2 cubic feet) and multiply by liquid volume per cubic feet.
    There are 7.48 US gallons per 1 cubic foot.
    G(gallons) = V(cu.feet) x 7.48(7.48g/cu.foot)
    so in a 1x1x2 foot tank there are 14.96 gallons.
    Your inch formula works! but make sure you convert to inches for it!
    Otherwise, use the cubic foot method! It is the scientific way!

    Use the metric system: 1 cubic decimeter holds 1 liter of water. Length x width x height remove 3 ceros and that’s the liters. A 100 x 20 x 30 cm tank can hold 60, and since the average density of water is 1, then 60 liters are roughly gonna weight 60 kilos.

    • @allaboutdiy1375
      @allaboutdiy1375  Před 4 lety +3

      That’s a loaded question really. My advice would be, get rid of the internal power head filter and go with an aqua clear 30 hang on the back filter. It will move and filter a lot more water. Next I would change 50% of the water and gravel vacuum the entire tank. Clean the glass and see where that takes you. Keep changing the water every few days after that and don’t over feed.

    • @allaboutdiy1375
      @allaboutdiy1375  Před 5 lety +1

      This formula doesn’t work exactly for bow front tanks. Because of the curve of course. But if you take those dimensions(20x18x13, divided by 231) you get about 20 gallons. Then you can probably add about 1 maybe 2 gallons to account for the curve. So you have roughly a 21 gallon bow front tank. Give or take.
