  • Filmed during the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, this "hike" is an excellent example of how to safely enjoy the outdoors while parks like the Red River Gorge have been shut down. Here, we explore about 6 miles of our hometown of Lexington, visiting several notable destinations along our way. These include the Henry Clay Estate, Woodland Park, Thoroughbred Park, the Kentucky Theatre, the Historic Courthouse, Rupp Arena, the Mary Todd Lincoln House, Transylvania University, Gratz Park, the Lyric Theatre and more.
Note that due to concerns about spreading the virus, we maintained a safe distance between one another, and took measures to avoid other pedestrians as well. This is intended to ensure that we are doing everything possible to "flatten the curve" of this devastating pandemic. Remember to thank all those people in your life involved in the health care industry, who are heroically fighting this disease for the benefit of all of us.
Special thanks to Nobuo Uematsu for his musical inspiration.

You guys are awesome. Thank you for what you do. I've hiked many of the hidden trails of the Gorge via your videos (and even ran into Mr. Goodpaster himself out there). This is a great alternative for those of us that need to get our hike on.

I live in Lexington. Loved the Urban Hike. Can’t wait for Thursday Night Live to come back. Kentucky Basketball is the Mecca of college basketball. Franks donuts are so good. Love the video guys.

I'm from Louisville but live out of the county now, only been to Lexington for concerts at Rupp back in the 1980's. Otherwise I blow through there on I64 heading to the gorge. Thanks for doing the video, you all take care, hope to see you in the RRG sometime soon!

The DBNF which is over 770,000 acres is still open. 🤷‍♂️

I believe Lexington has The Patterson Cabin, one of the founders of Lexington and Dayton.
In any case, I research your videos before my RRG visits. Last week, I followed your video to find Tarr Ridge Trailhead, Thanks to your video reference points: Tarr Ridge Church and Corner Ridge Road (Thanks Jenny Anne). But alas, the trail was closed due to COVID. So I backtracked, by car, to get to Clear Creek campground. But it was closed due to a landslide. Finally, I parked and bailed out of the car near a creek, and followed it until I spotted the Sheltowee blazes. I think I was on a detour of The Trace.
Do you guys know which sections of Sheltowee Trace are 1) Open, 2) Not on a road, 3)Challenging,.
I especially want to hike in the areas where church vans are not allowed to go.
    Looking forward to June 6th...

Hi Okay. There are certain sections we have found most difficult on the Sheltowee Trace:
One is from the NT to Morehead (little water for long stretches, lots of hills). Another is the ~15 miles north of Cumberland Falls, where it appears flat and easy on a map but is in fact extremely rough and difficult. Other parts are frustrating because the trail is poorly marked (and we refer to these sections in the videos.) Good luck!

Thanks for the historic hike through Lexington, what's the music you're using in the beginning?

When I lived in Lexington I didn't visit the Red River Gorge once. I drove a little south instead and dodged the crowds. Anyways, I wanted to check out Boone Hollow up near Lexington. There is some kind of zipline place there today, I think. Wonder if you guys have been there?

Hi Pluto's Forest; no we aren't familiar with Boone's Hollow. Also if you want to avoid the crowds at RRG, the "hidden" trails we document are often very quiet and serene. Good luck.

@@redriverunderground4401 thank you. I've moved to western KY and now just hike in the Stearns ranger district. Doubt I will be back to the RRG. We tried taking one of these hidden trails in the RRG once but the trip was cut short after Pluto rolled in fresh hippie poop. I saw the hippie van but thought surely he wouldn't be hiking the "hidden trail". Some trails are less hidden than others. LOL. Bury your poop guys!
