The thing i noticed was how bad of a movie that was. Made no sense and they took a semi attractive lady and made her look like a mentally challenged boy.

I disagree. Most of his movies are above average but not like amazing. Interstellar is an outlier.
Interstellar is shite when you realise Nolan mixes good old-fashioned sci-fi with something approaching the supernatural (the books being pushed off the bookshelf). If you think he's a genius, you should take a look at my novel!
I just don't understand why those relatives of Murph didn't react to their grand/great grandfather who just walked into the room as a middle aged man.
That is exactly what my wife and I said!! You'd think it would be a huge deal to his descendants that he was there!

@@angeladotexe it's too stretched for a movie that strives to be as scientifically accurate as possible. Logically the guy should receive a hero’s welcome with big ruckus and fanfare. After all they treat Matt Damon’s character from the Martian like a legend by just surviving while this guy saved the humanity. but I can sympathize with the flow of the movie, it would run counter to the mood of the ending. They just wanted to have a personal resolution between a father and a daughter. Maybe the hero’s celebration already took place and everyone already calmed down. Maybe he already met the relatives before.
I can't explain it but I cry everytime I watch this movie.

Couldn't disagree with you more about the ending. It isn't anticlimactic. It shows the love of a father and daughter while also showing us that Murphy truly became her own person. So good.
It also proves just how long it's been because Murphy has essentially moved on. If she had spent more time with cooper it would've taken away from the point that she has her own kids and grandkids who she's spent more of her life with than cooper
My problem with that scene is that Cooper is the grandfather/great-grandfather/great-great grandfather of everyone else at Murphy’s bedside and yet they do not even acknowledge each other.

Something I haven't seen mentioned is that the film's reinterpretation of Murphy's Law is, in a way, actually describing the fundamental aspects of the 5th dimension, which resides beyond the 4th dimension that we know as linear time. "Anything that can happen will eventually happen". In the 5th dimension, this translates to all possible events occurring simultaneously throughout all of possible time. Cooper names his daughter Murphy and she ultimately solves the gravity equation by coming to the realization that her father was actually communicating with her via access of the 5th dimension. Thus, Murph (Murphy's Law) and the embodiment of the reinterpretation she represents was the key to understanding the 5th dimension and ultimately solving the mystery of gravity itself.
Mind blown; Interstellar is a perfect movie that gave us so much beyond an entertaining movie and magnificent soundtrack.

It's interesting to think that from Cooper's perspective, he left on the trip wiser than his daughter and coaching her about life only to return a short time later as the 'child' being coached about life by his wiser daughter through the phrase "No parent should have to watch their own child die".
The soundtrack is hauntingly beautiful.

I feel like these videos miss the most important message of this movie: as a tangible, love is the only thing that transcends gravity, time and energy in our universe. Nolan is quite clear about this: Cooper and Murph, Brand and Wolf...
Tbh when I first saw this film, I only cared about the father and daughter relationship, that's the soul of this film (even though I teared a bit during the scene when cooper son Tom is fully grownup and having a child ! Maybe because I'm a son too).

@Akash I know right. For the audience to catch that, they had to straight up say it in the film. I feel like even those who love Nolans films don't completely understand them. He is talented, of course, but you can tell he's trying soooo hard to make his films so layered and deep, it feels like it's more important than the story. I enjoyed Interstellar, but his films I do like, I like them in spite of the story. I don't need to do mental gymnastics to enjoy a film. Tarantino would be my favorite filmmaker, it feels like he isn't even trying. In my opinion, when Tarantino takes a dump, he flushes more talent down the toilet than old Nolan has in total. I understand the next person may not care for his films at all though, it's all subjective.
@Akash Nolan makes movies that make crazy money and he gets critic praise also, that sure doesn't happen because the man isn't talented. I like his films, just maybe not as much as some. Tarantino's movies do really well financially, just not as well as Nolans. Without looking up numbers I feel they both do well critically and financially, But Nolan better financially, Tarantino better critically, though they're both a success in both aspects. It seems like critics almost universally at least like QTs films every time, Nolan has his little haters, although I do feel that's overblown somewhat by some loud trolls. Tarantino's films and him personally have probably been nominated and won a number of more big awards too. Idk, it feels like they kiss his ass in Hollywood for every picture. I guess I said all that to say, they are both all time greats who make very different kinds of films. At the end of the day, that's a great thing for film fans.
This movie breaks my heart. When I watched it in college I thought it was an excellent and well thought out Sci fi. I loved the concepts and thought it was amazing because it did mostly everything right.
Them I became a dad. Now, this film is hard as hell for me to watch. I have 2 sons, and the idea of missing my children's entire life is brutal to me. That, and I've lost a child. The scene where Coopers son tells him about losing Jesse broke me like almost no other story. The pain of a father losing their kid isn't usually explored in detail. Most of the time it centers on the mom, like the fathers are just able to move on. We aren't. When we lost my daughter it left me broken. I'm still broken 4 years later.
I love this movie, and I still watch it from time to time, but I cry every single time now.

I lost my daughter in a crash a little over ten years ago and unless a person has lived through that nighmare they really have no way to truly understand. My heart goes out to you. This is a club that no one wants to be a part of. I hope you and your wife find peace in your journey. It is long and dark at times, but I have found that healing slowly comes. You never get over it but you eventually learn how to live with it. I hope you have a good support group of friends, family, and church. I don't know how I would have survived without them.
As far as the movie, it is a favorite. Like you, I can't get through the scenes of Cooper longing for Murph and mourning the loss without losing it. Triggers! I always see my daughter when he is saying his good-byes at the end. Hans Zimmer's score is perfect. May God bless you and your wife and carry you though. May the two of you find that peace.

Actually the Cooper helping himself paradox makes sense when you realize all timelines are happening at once. That's how I understood the movie anyway. Nolan uses that concept in Inception and Tenet too.
I got the concept coz of Attack On Titan, it's the same idea with the anti-hero Eren using his powers to send memories from the future to himself in pretty much all previous timelines he existed in and those holders of his power before him simultaneously, that allow him to attain this Founding power
This. How else would he be able to send Murph the messages? Time travel isn't possible, but crossing dimensions (theoretically) is, and if time is happening simultenously across dimensions, then communication through them would be expected.
The entropy of time being intertwined is the main idea of Tenet
@@NotNice_ That's BS. The entire point of Tenet was climate change. The reason the people in the future reversed time wasn't a punishment for those in the past who did nothing about it, but it was so those in the future could exist. Watch it again. You missed some things.

Considering how fast time moved on that planet you'd think he'd have landed the ship closer to the wreckage so they wouldn't have had to waste so much time walking through water.
I don't know why I feel such a connection to this movie, whether it's the sci-fi nature, or the many themes? or the haunting soundtrack or the ending that makes me get emotional every time I've watched It? or maybe it just that it's another well made movie that explored many things about us, and our surrounding's? Whatever it is?? it's something that is beautiful and repeated viewing's on drive that point even more.
I think I know how you feel cause I'm not really a sci fi need or anything but this movie justs sticks with me in a way I just can't explain. And it's the same things that you've mentioned as well, my favourite soundtrack of all soundtracks, the emotional devastation that this movie can induce in me is something that no other movie has been able to do as well, except for maybe the green mile idk
It’s because it was truly an experience, this movie. Most movies aren’t. Nolan crushed this. Also.. watch more of his movies.. and that haunting music is from the literal movie score king Hans Zimmer. Look him up on Apple Music or Spotify and take a peek at that mans credentials. 😊

I think it's because it talks about feats which Mankind will have to face sooner or later, it's like we were watching our decendents struggling for surviving. I had the same feeling reading Asimov's novels. Or perhaps I simply have too much imagination.

So intense touching all emotions especially fear, sadness but topping all the love of a father and daughter never being broken no matter how much time has passed. First I watched it I didn't sleep that night my mind was just stayed in thought about all the wonders of that movies but mostly how much I love my daughter.
i always avoid watching it with my children and wife because i dont want them to see me crying like a baby. lol
One question guys!! How did future murph get the message in the watch when copper was sending the message to past murph?
Does anyone appreciate the ending as much as I? I think its probably the best final two minutes of any film, ever. Cooper swiftly went from reconnecting with his daughter who once struggled with the thought that he had left her to die intentionally, to one of the most amazing voiceovers ever done with that phenomenal score. They immediately acknowledged their goal to solve this problem had cost them a large piece of their lives and relationship. And we get to see how much Cooper's promise meant to Murphy. But she's dying and knows her father still has problems to solve, and both the legs and the brain to take action, sending him out to fulfill one more promise. To bring back Brand, whom the audience almost forgot entirely in that moment. I'd love a short 5 or 10 minute film of Cooper's landing on Edmond's Planet, with Brand's eyes locking on TARS and Coop exiting a Ranger scanning her camp ... but I just dont think anything could top my own imagination. Its perfect.
I don't think he will bring Brand back. I thought he was going to help her with the colony.

Things I have noticed. When I first saw Interstellar I wasn't a parent. Now I have a 4 year old daughter and I blub hopelessly when he leaves her, and at the end.
You'll blub some more when you realise Coop never made it home. Murph never saw her dad again.

When we see him floating near Saturn, the music builds to a single long beep - the sound of a life support machine registering death. It's exactly the same beep as we hear when Professor Brand dies. When he "wakes", he's in a space station which is a tunnel with a bright light at the end, which is a phenomena reported by people who have come back from near-death experiences. And what does Mann say? "What's the last thing you see before you die?".
The final scenes are created by Coop's subconscious brain. They are his final dying thoughts. He never made it home, and Murph never saw her dad again.
Nolan sets it all up and even has a character say it out loud.

ANTICLIMACTIC????!??? I have seen this move more than 5 times, I’d watch it another 50 times and still cry like the first time I’ve watched it when Copper comes back to Murphy in the hospital
I don't think he's saying it as a criticism. I think he just means that in the context of all of the tension and emotion built up around their reunion throughout the movie, the very brief time they get to spend together in her final moments could be viewed as a bit of a disappointment, from a certain perspective.

The movie's biggest flaw is that time travel is impossible. That he couldn't communicate with the past in this sense. But forgiving the physics on this means accepting the rest is real and not a dream.

I feel like this movie wasn’t appreciated enough or I’m just late to the party. It’s always worth a rewatch. Being a father with a brilliant daughter who wants to be an “engineer scientist” makes it that much better. She’s finally at an age where she can watch it with me, comprehend it and appreciate it.

I saw the message from a simple point: the father's love for his daughter transcends everything. Even time and space.
Simliar themes can be seen in the movies "The Lakehouse" and "Contact." Both show elements of love acting outside known concepts of time, person, and place.

This is true and shows how many levels this movie works on. I initially thought it was a bit selfish for Cooper to make the mission about him speeding through it to get home to his kids. It seemed like he was more interested in just his family than doing it for the sake of mankind. That Dr. Mann seemed the more practical one in wanting to continue the human species regardless of rescuing those on Earth.
Then I watched it a 2nd time.
Knowing what I knew from my first viewing, I realized that the deep, specific love between individuals, Cooper and Murph in this case, is what was needed in order to communicate a specific message. This strong love can't be diffused amongst all humankind because then the message would also be diffused and would not make sense in it's transmission. The connection between Murph and Cooper was the exact bridge that ultimately allowed Murph to decipher and communicate the message to all of mankind.
This specific love between Dr. Brand and Dr. Edmunds is also what gave Brand the gut instinct to know that Edmund's planet would be the better choice.
This is where spirituality meets science. In both, there is a need to seek and find truth in the unknown. Love is something that on the surface might seem very unscientific but the paradox is that it is an unknown that transcends space and time that humans don't truly understand but ultimately seek to truly comprehend. It's the blackhole that has it's own gravitational pull that many are willing to risk their lives for.

Although it’s funny that the rocket Cooper used to get into orbit is based on the Saturn V that landed people on the Moon.
He died while Cooper was doing the black hole slingshot manoeuvre.

I've seen Interstellar probably 15 times. This film is very important to me.
My son watched this 4 times already and still loved every minute! He even learned to play the theme by himself on the piano. I too loved the movie so much. The father-daughter love! I cried a lot. And Hans Zimmer is a genius! His music is absolutely brilliant.
The most shocking part of Interstellar for me was when my uncle popped up on the big screen!! What the...!! No one in the family knew but apparently they had licensed or had rights to clips from Ken Burns "Dust Bowl" documentary and there was my uncle larger than life on the screen in a sci-fi epic, recounting the dust storms.
@@telmack7838 What an odd response. First, the Filmmaker of the documentary "The Dust Bowl" is named Ken Burns not ric burns. Second, my uncle (no relation to Ken or ric Burns) was in the Film "The Dust Bowl" and Interstellar used clips from that film which featured my uncle. Third, a man with no children can be someone's uncle. In fact, he doesn't even need to be genetically related to them.

The narrator said time runs much faster on the planet near gargantua which is incorrect. Rather, it runs much slower due to gravitational time dilation near a black hole.
That's a good point, I guess they were just trying to say that earth-time passes quicker than it does on that planet?

Time does runs faster when you get nearer the Gargantua, but it runs slower when viewed by individual from further orbit

@@cakraparindra4659 In Interstellar the relative time is always earth hours i.e. as seen from earth. Due to high gravity from gargantua on miller's planet, time is slow (1 hour on millers = 7 years on earth). And, due to extreme gravity close to gargantua, time is extremely slow (McConaughey says that they lost some 57 years (don't exactly remember) in just few seconds near gargantua)

this movie hits harder if your a parent, you really feel the loss of time and sacrifice the father makes to save the world and the sadness of the daughter without a father etc. great movie.

I was taking an astronomy class in Fall 2014 and just fell in love with anything astronomy or space related. Lo and behold, this movie came out in November. I was so excited. Saw it in the theaters with a group and we came out speechless. Such an amazing experience and such a captivating movie that will continue to be at the top of my list.
Interstellar was a compete masterpiece. The soundtrack, the storyline, the intertwining complexities were all a treat to watch.
Still hoping for a sequel🙏🏻🤞🏻. Brand is out there waiting to be found

Loved the movie. The only bit I didn't like was how Cooper ended up being shunted to side when he visited his daughter on her deathbed. He just had a brief interaction with her and everyone totally ignored him like they didn't even know who he was

They probably don't. If u remember nasa was run secretly. The public didn't even know anything about the missions. Murphy was the hero for them. Only a few people know about the mission. That is probably why everyone ignored cooper

It’s hard to watch this movie without getting emotional. The passion in the acting is so relatable and sad.
Love Michael Caine. Being a father (of 4), McConaughey's performance is gut-wrenching...perhaps his best. Truly a great film in all aspects.

There's a book "The Science of Interstellar" by Kip Thorne, which is a very nice addition explaining science behind it (it even explains frozen clouds on Mann's planet).
Regarding Murphy knowing about Brand - I'm pretty sure once they found her father, she was woken up and debriefed about the mission status, knowing her, for sure she has not left a stone unturned. Let's keep in mind that there's no indication how much time passed from Cooper waking up in the hospital and him meeting his daughter, during, which he might've related the events and Murphy could've been debriefed on the way.
This film has set a standard on the future of scientific films 🎥👏
Just like the dark knight set the standard for comic movies, Nolan is genius
Also Murph showing the broken Lander figure at the beginning of the movie which was broken due to "the ghost" then we see when Cooper eject from Ranger 2 it was broken very much like the Lander on Murphy's bookshelf... Not sure if anyone caught onto this but amazingly placed hidden egg. Love this move so much that I will watch it endlessly and also watch others react to this on CZcams.
When Cooper first shows up at nasa and they sit him down at the table, the reactions of everyone there are super telling. It’s as if they know that their mission is a success because he showed up. ‘We plan to go through this wormhole that just showed up same as you.’
Why are we still talking about this movie...??

The best thing that I got out of this movie was appreciation of the amazing Hans Zimmer. Back in 2014, I only wanted to watch Interstellar because “It’s Space”. Its now my all time favourite movie with my all time favourite composer behind the music.
I have watched it more times than I can count, It has become my ritual to re-watch it every 1-2 month since a few years..
Damn this movie has my heart!

@@JoJoJoker It's very possible. I've had weeks when I watched Interstellar every single night. Yesterday I watched it again. Must have crossed the 100x mark long time ago. I remember counting till about 25-30 and that was ~8 yrs ago.
Yes, it is, by far, a most rewatched movie for me and the next mot rewatched one would be probably Alien/Aliens (but order of magnitude less than this one)
Minute 2:52. Actually the time on that planet runs much, much slower than earth. According to relativity theory, the black hole density curves space and slows down time, as they are a continum, with more intensity than earth. Great video!

This movie was just fantastic. So much more to catch with another watch. Nolan did a great job with casting, musicians, and story. I love this movie.

probably one of the best movies ever made.
i think the thing that makes me cry about this movie is the love, and devotion that drove cooper to sacrifice so much for a future, but this brought his daughter an insurmountable amount of pain; this is evident by her anger and unwillingness to accept what happened. Cooper wanted so desperately to return and also to succeed, for this sacrifice to mean something, which it did, his daughter finished his work. that there couldn’t have been more peace was what was so painful maybe because there simply is no way in such a circumstance it would be easy, that is what is so relatable
Good timing we just rewatched this last weekend. You pick up on something new every time you watch it. The sound design and score are incredible.

when i first saw this movie, for a month i barely watch anything else. i rewatched it almost everyday. this was an experience unlike any other movie ive ever seen
This is on my top 10 movies of all time, it's great. All of his movies are really good but this is such an exceptional movie.

I have watched interstellar so many times and each time makes it the greatest sci-fi ever made.

Someone on reddit said that the "they" that put the Black hole there is actually AI. Humans didnt make it and AI had a device to come back in time and help their creators survive.
@Michael lloyd, that's beyond mind-blowing. We definetely need a prequel but actually set in the future which explains us who or what set the wormhole and the tesseract.

Re: The last interaction being anticlimactic. I guess I'm in the minority that agrees with you on this. Throughout the entire movie he's trying to get back to see her, and then he's with her for all of 5 minutes and just leaves cause he wants to go get with Anne Hathaway. With all the themes in the movie about love transcending time and space and all of that it's like... I don't know if their final interaction needed to be longer, in fact I think its brevity is what makes it so powerful, but he definitely need to be there for her in the final moments of her life given all the time that was stolen from them. I get the whole "No parent should have to watch their child die" bit, but in that moment, it's not about Cooper, it's about being there for his daughter

The fact that those people in the room had spent more time with murphy than matthew makes the climax perfect sense.
Yes, i see it the same way. The whole movie is about the relationship between them. Now they get together after all those Years. After about 5 Minutes they dealt with every aspect and are moving on with their lives. . Even if one of them ends. sour taste in my mouth explains it exactly.
Dont get me wrong. I love every Minute of the Movie and take a bow on how good it is. Just complaining on a very high level.
@@WaldoPepper8 After that much time apart, they're basically strangers, although they still have love for each other. You can have 5 minutes or 30 minutes together, it wouldn't really change things that much.

You forgot the conversation that Amelia Brand and Cooper on Miller's (water) planet where she explains how a paradox can occur - how they (which we now know are the future humans) can transcend 5 dimensions where time may be another physical dimension to them like a canyon or a mountain, which is how the Tessaract works. I don't know about others but I only really captured the significance of this on the rewatch.

Many times. The most memorable was on a flight from Ireland to the US, going home. Interstellar was on the list of movies and I couldn't resist but immediately regretted it. As a Dad of two daughters, this movie gets me everytime. I was blubbering for an hour. The hospital scene is particularly heartbreaking.

I always liked the theory that Cooper's place in the tesseract -- constructed by "future humans" inside of the black hole/singularity -- was, in fact, made by an older Murph. As such, she was able to travel through the wormhole, create the tesseract that connected to that particular place in space-time inside of the singularity and, afterward, even visit her father (who was with Brand in the distant future on what was Edmund's planet).
She subsequently traveled backward in time -- because she understood the math behind it (more so than even her own father). After all, Cooper was merely a pilot and engineer. Murphy was a brilliant scientist-mathematician. So, the tesseract and wormholes were created by Murph and her team. It's also why future humans named the station after her. The creation of the original wormholes themselves were a product of Murph -- just in a linear since (of time).
Thus, Murph was the builder and architect of Earth's salvation. Her father was simply a player in what Murph created. In her travels, Murphy actually visited Cooper (subsequent to his journey to meet up with Brand). This is why her narration seemed to know his future (and what Brand was up to). Moreover, it also explains why Murph wasn't so surprised to see Cooper or quite so sad to see him go. In a sense, she knew him on a different linear path of time.
In other words, Cooper would leave Cooper Station and meet with Brand. Shortly thereafter, a slightly younger Murph would visit them on their planet before traveling back through the wormhole.

That image near the end when he goes to see Dr Brandt, when he's chilling behind the door in a spacesuit as the robot opens the door is so epic.

The best soundtrack/score of any film. Cornfield chase is amazing. I particularly like to get absolutely stoned out my head and listen to the soundtrack in the dark 🤯
