- Tens of thousands of spectators made the pilgrimage from across the country & 22 million people around the world on CZcams witnessed the thunderous roar of the SpaceX's new 23-story-tall jumbo rocket as it has blasted off on its first test flight, carrying Elon Musk’s red Tesla sports car aiming for an endless trip past Mars. The Falcon Heavy rose from the same launch pad used by NASA nearly 50 years ago to send men to the Moon. With lift-off, the Heavy became the most powerful rocket in use today, doubling the lift-off punch of its closest competitor. Within three minutes, the Falcon Heavy’s two side boosters separated from the central rocket in one of the most critical points of the flight. Some eight minutes after launch, a pair of sonic booms rocked the area as the two side boosters set down in near synchrony on two landing pads. Flying atop the Falcon Heavy is SpaceX & Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s cherry-red Tesla Roadster, carrying a passenger-sort of. SpaceX revealed last weekend that a mannequin wearing the company’s new spacesuit would ride in the driver’s seat of the electric sports car ,nicknamed Starman.

I think history will record Elon's greatest achievements are that he made both electric cars and space flight "EXCITING",
and for that I thank him.
And tunnels can't forget that. Reportedly the test tunnel he dug costs orders of magnitude lower than any competitor. Cheap tunneling tech could make a major difference in how most people get around.

It’s a lot of work, even to get to the point of interview. But damn I bet this moment and many more in the future truly made their life seemed worth living.
Probably also really happy that they get to work there. Space x was thought to be a bad meme for so long that elons the fucking chief rocket engineer because none of the good rocket engineers in his own words would work for him.
So probably none of those staff members shown would have a chance with any other company or corporate entity but at space x they had a chance to prove themselves.
Now space x is so successful that their employees are in high demand and often poached by competitors.

Watched this launch on a live stream sitting on my couch with my wife. Still am amazed when I see this footage. Incredible. Can't wait until the next one. Would love to visit Florida to see a Falcon Heavy lift off. Super Heavy is going to be amazing.
One day this will be remembered very fondly as one of the most important days in human history and one of the greatest days for human space flight. Elon, carry us to the heavens and beyond.

The Falcon Heavy test flight made - especially the tandem booster landings - so many feel excitement for space again. So sad that it had to take this long. Thing is...had man been more interested in science than in military might, man had already been to Mars and would be drilling the moons of Saturn by now.

The best part of the video is watching the side boosters land on their respective pads literally within yards of each other.
Fantastic edit. This man (and his team) are pure genius' Roll on 2019 so we can see this bad ass piece of technology again. I am not an emotional person but the reactions of all the people that dedicated 0000's of hours into this project really makes me shed a tear. SpaceX is the future - and the future is now.

My memory is still gobsmaked after watching the launch and parallel landing from one mile from the landing site. Drove over from Tampa to see it. Flew home the next day to Mesa AZ. There is no comparison.
