    So i maidened this today. It was nerve wracking bc im a beginner and probably shouldnt fly this yet but i did it anyway. After 30 minutes of figuring out ground handling, a few nose overs, and a lot of cancelled take offs i finally committed and i was off. Safe was on and bc i was flying up and down a lane with both sides having 50 to 70 foot trees i went pretty high and immediately went mid flaps and dropped the gear so i could land. Hands were shaking so bad that the plane was fishtailing slightly due to rudder input. I circled a few times then landed, with a nose over ending my maiden. 2 more flights later the plane is still without damage save for a scuffed up prop. Im so excited to fly again tomorrow when i have more room. This video is the most comprehensive and beginner friendly guide/review of this plane ive seen and i really appreciate all the hard work you guys have put in!

      I'm so excited for you Matthew! I completely get it, and you're nerves are what make this hobby SO REAL! You will feel so alive when you fly these things, and if you don't, might want to check your pulse ;)
      AWESOME! Good work, and keep it up...get a spare prop if you think you're gonna keep nosing over. They're not too bad, but you WANT ONE...Also, if you break off a blade, and you're left with 3...just break off one more and you can make it fly some more ;) Two opposing blades will actually fly great still, provided it's balanced close to even...we've done it a million times.
      Good luck...
      P.s. If you want to order parts, you can follow the link in the video description, but just click on the plane and then scroll down and you'll see "REPLACEMENT PARTS" or you can follow the "master links...(see below) and then just search like any other time you visit the site. This will help support us, as you have done in the past - THANK YOU!!!

      Seriously, good for you. Keep flying, but don't kill the plane. Don't be afraid to land in the grass, but you'll have to fix stuff...if you need too, put the gear UP and belly land it SLOOOOOOW ;)

      i fly the P51-D i have both the EFLITE P51-D 1.5 AND THE FMS P51-D RED tail 1.7MM as for the nose overs i never use the flaps to take off always use flaps up and go into the power real slow power into the plane and hold that right rudder on landing use flaps to slow it down but at the last second before the wheels hit the ground i flaps up to avid the nose over i fly off grass so i never use flaps on take off only to slow the plane down before touchdown

      I can relate! I just did my maiden yesterday. It was my first hobby grade rc plane flight. I was shaking. 😂. Had a couple nose overs, but was a great flight on safe as well. Will turn off safe on my next flight. I'm feeling confident, or stupid, only time will tell. 😂

  • @myksanchez1222
    @myksanchez1222 Před 2 lety +3

    Brian, I want to thank you and your wife for your hard work, bringing us extremely detailed and thorough reviews of these aircraft, where the alternative would see us blindly guessing as to what plane to choose and what we were getting into. I was unsure as to whether I wanted to start R/C planes as a hobby, so I used your video reviews of the Eachine warbirds to pick them as my starting aircraft. With the maiden of the Eachine P51 I experienced R/C flight and was left speechless. Suffice to say I'm hooked, and again, because of your video reviews, I'm going to buy a Mini Apprentice RTF as my next plane as a learning step-up from Eachine warbirds. And again, because of your hard work and this video, I'm going to buy this June Nite P51, put it into storage, and then build and fly it once I've decided I've become good enough with the Mini Apprentice. I just have one question: will the DXS that comes with the Mini Apprentice be good enough for this June Nite P51 and other planes? Or should I invest in a better transmitter? Thanks again for everything...

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  Před 2 lety +3

      You're one of the main reasons we keep doing this. So glad you're getting hooked!!!!
      As for the DXS - If you're getting hooked, I need to tell you about the "Dark side" of RC - now you need an expensive transmitter ;) If you KNOW you're hooked, which it sounds like you are - you might want to consider getting the NX8 or NX10 now, and then you'll be set from some time to come. I don't want to mislead you in any way, but at the end of the day, the RTF's are going to set you up with more items you will end up "discarding" as you advance through the ranks, whereas, if you buy BNF you can save a lot of cash through your first few planes. You might even find that this "investment" (terrible choice of words - this is a hobby, NOT an investment...but you GET it) will pay you back in cost difference between the RTF's planes you might otherwise get and same BNF planes you get instead.
      Just run the numbers, and remember that you'll have a LOT better transmitter that you will NEVER regret buying. I've had a number of high dollar transmitters (talking about what I BOUGHT...not for review), and I've never regretted any of them.
      Tx bit.ly/3f4JhZl - I suggest you seriously consider the NX8 - it is VERY good...you don't want to get the one with the reciever (Seems it would be a good deal if you were getting an AS3X/SAFE equipped rx...but this one is not)

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  Před 2 lety +2

      ....oh, but YEAH, you can technically use DXS...but I wouldn't - you'll need flaps and SAFE select controls, and EXPO to make her fly the way I share.
      Good luck! Keep at it!!!

  • @G7GTI
    @G7GTI Před 3 lety +6

    What I love is the way you're telling us what you're doing on the controls, I used to do silly things like forget I left the flaps down the whole flight or forgot to restart the timer, you have kind of trained me to fly the way you do, much more like a real pilot. The long videos are awesome we get a real in-depth idea on battery and flight times, shout out to the camera crew 😎👍

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  Před 3 lety +3

      So glad to hear you say this. Some love the long videos, and some hate them ;) I guess I will stick with the long videos since they're having the positive impact we want to make in the RC community!
      Thanks RADIO FLYER!

    • @mlarsen77
      @mlarsen77 Před 3 lety +2

      100% agree. Oral checklist. 1 in 100 times camera crew calls out something the pilot forgot to do proving that its not all for show. All it takes is one slip and you need 40 stitches in your ankle, or worse. We all know when youre flying, you are likely not flying while asleep and thoughts and calculations, and anticipations are being made. Its great to hear the brain dump during flight....and even in the shop during builds, upgrades and repairs.
      keep it up! The plane, and the good work.

That explanation you gave about deflection criteria as it pertains to the amount of torque applied to the servo strength and how it compares to the difference between accuracy and amount of deflection. I was really curious and wondering if it was going to be a huge jump in technology and worth the money to upgrade my DX8 gen2. Now I know I'll be staying with my current transmitter. The P-51 will be on my wish list now. Happy flying.

      That's exactly why I wanted to show these details. I hope I hit the important details for you. I know Horizon Hobby would want me to to cover a bunch of stuff that's not important to me, but I know what I care about, and many others are in the same boat. This new lineup is going to be a GREAT upgrade when you're ready, but to be totally honest, I'm kind waiting for the NX10 or IX20 for a full on changeover ;)
      Also, as for the 3+ hours of video. It's very appreciated, hearing your positive remarks. I know some will skip a lot of the video, and that's cool too. We don't really expect everyone to want to spend that long on the whole video, but I have a hard time figuring out what parts would be okay to dump??? We're just glad a few are getting something out of it.
      P.S. If you get a good nap, that's also just fine my be too ;) LOL!!! I used to fall asleep in one class, RIGHT after lunch in college...and the professor was so cool about it...he would just make fun of me until I woke up. Class of 4-6 - only slightly embarrassing. Also, very good teacher too! He was very smart. VERY good teacher!

      True. That's why we do it! you know, I kinda like "everything" but you guys are smart enough to KNOW when I'm not into somthing. Some planes are just better than others, and some are super applicational. I try to check my subjectivity, or at least mention my bias for one from anther, and also share why I think what I think...when appropriate. The hardest part is to go from a $550 plane to a $75 plane, and hearing people talk about how EXPENSIVE the $75 plane is - LOL - but I try to take into account how much the thing costs, when I pick it apart...if it's a $37, I set the bar REALLY LOW ;)

I’m not a beginner and the first flight on my P51 the prop kicked up a really small pebble and there went the prop. Second flight the rudder servo took a dump . I brought it home and replaced that servo . The mustang has a minor handling problem of wanting to tip forward with a 4s pack but that about it all . My Eflight A6M zero has absolutely no bad anything and I spent the day flying all day and 6 battery’s .

    Deciding on a DX8e or NX6/8 is tough, as well as which plane to get next. Night Timber X, this P51, or another aerobat like the Extra or Ultimate. Someday I may go with one bigger plane like the bigger Cub or P-51 1.5m. Hence considering an 8ch radio.

    One idea for a possible solution to the hatch messing up the paint on the top/front of the fuselage: apply a thin coat of medium CA to the foam on the inside edge of the opening and let it harden. We used to do this on the front of our foam tires in RC car racing to keep the tires from chunking on high grip tracks. Let it harden is what she said-lol

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  Před 3 lety +1

      First off, thanks for being part of our channel! We're very glad to have you with us, and glad you're in our audience!
      I throw out the numbers, because without them, nobody would have a clue what I was talking about. I don't share the cost, because the prices change, and shipping is a potentially big consideration. Also, I share links, so people can figure this out without any ambiguity, and risk of me saying it correct today, only to be wrong for 10 more years. I don't share how long the charge cycles are, since they vary a lot, so that becomes somewhat irrelevant. Plan on half an hour to one hour for a charge, you'll be about right.
      I don't mind constructive criticism. We always try to hear it well, even if it's not always constructive (btw, not talking about your comment, but we get our fair share of terrible comments). My only issue with your constructive criticism here, is that all the details you brought up wouldn't be issues as you get to being more experience in the hobby. Kinda like when a kid tries to point out how dumb the teacher is, when the teacher hasn't mentioned the point yet. You'll kinda figure out what details are important as you get more experienced. I assume most people that are new to the hobby would keep that in mind, framing their questions in this way. Just a little constructive criticism back for you to chew on.
      If you want to help ME out, just ask the question, and I'll try to answer your questions when possible. There's an unlimited list of things that we could talk about on every video, but as long winded and just plain LONG as out videos already are, we can only cram so much into them before people really start getting annoyed.

      What batteries you ALREADY have.
      What space you're flying from.
      How much budget.
      The A-10 is more than the two P's, but if you can afford only the A-10, maybe you'd like the P-51 and P-47???

      P-51D 1.2m June Nite bit.ly/30hC9ku
      P-47 Razorback 1.2m bit.ly/3j8NXhG

      1) Take off from pavement if at all possible.
      2) Loads of rudder as you spool up.
      3) Slowly feed in throttle.
      4) Don't resist the tail coming up, but you CAN if you want to wait on it popping up BEFORE the controls come alive (meaning enough air over the control surfaces to make them impact directional change on the plane)

      @BrianPhillipsRC  Před 3 lety +1

      It's better, in fact, I hadn't even thought to check, but we just filmed two videos featuring the NX6 at near or BELOW ZERO (F) for your considerations...go the the end of each flight, and I believe we show the screen. WAY better than my DX18 (same LCD style screen as on your DX8).
      Fw 190 Maiden czcams.com/video/dzPOPXxH3_g/video.html
      F-15 Maiden czcams.com/video/yyVuhkirhzc/video.html
      ...but I haven't even given it a second thought. I'll be honest, I guess I didn't really notice it being super bad on my DX18, in terms of the fact that I just didn't fly that frequently in the extreme cold, but I DID experience the slow, laggy LCD when it got cold. WC I understand your question, but I like so many planes that it's like asking what my favorite kid is....
      To be totally honest, I like my latest plane the best, but there's a bunch of my "go to planes" from yester-year, that I really like, and THIS Was one of them ;)

    Brian, if you only had room for one P-51 Mustang, which would you pick for a lifetime of enjoyment: the 1.1m; 1.2m, 1.5m or another? Thank you for your guidance.👍

    Brian, interesting talk on the D/R and Expo. If I saw the video right, are you setting up all on the same switch? And, are you general starting rates as follows: 100% DR with 5% Expo / 100% DR with 20% Expo / 90% DR with 30% Expo? Also, do you use the same for all Aleron, Rudder, Elev?

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  Před 3 lety +1

      Yes I am! Sometimes it's 5%,10%,15%...sometimes a bit MORE for rudder...but yeah, basically, that's my launching point, then I refine when I land from the maiden. I rarely change it.
      Super easy right!!??!?! BUT SUPER-DUPER-SUBJECTIVE - you might HATE these settings ;)

    Hey Brian , I was wondering how this compares to the eflite 1.2m p47 ? I’m getting used to 4ch flying with my aeroscout 1.1 which I love but I thought for my second plane after I get real proficient in the aeroscout in all flight modes might be a relatively mild warbird with safe.

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  Před 3 lety

      P-47 is also very good, but flies more heavy, you'll WANT 4S all the time with that plane.

      P-47 Razorback 1.2m bit.ly/3j8NXhG
      Both GREAT!

    Great video. Can you share with me some tips for the TAKEOFF of this HH P-51? It looks smooth and effortless in your video (nice job btw). The problem I have is that when the tail was lifted and I throttling up for speed, a plane nose was pushed down and tip over by the thrust, and the prop was hitting the runway hard! So to avoid that, I sloooowly throttling up. Which took the whole runway length. But I don't think that's a practical way considering how capable this plane is.

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  Před 3 lety +1

      I know this isn't the answer you want to hear, but it's the answer you need to hear - practice makes proficiency ;) You can do it. I have a video that kinda outlines this process, but it's a FEEL thing, and an EXPERIENCE thing...
      Here's the link - studio.czcams.com/users/videoV2NA_dYzu18/edit - I talk about how to counter the "P" Factor (the torque of the prop trying to pull the plane over to the left, which is why the props point down and right).
      The best I can say is that when you engage the throttle, do it as slow as your strip will allow for. When you start, you can even pull back on the elevator to keep the tail wheel down for a minute, then slowly let it pull up, and about the time the tail wheel lifts, you'll have to move the rudder as the prop wash will want to "pivot" the plane.... it takes practice.
      Here's what I would try to avoid...don't just gun it and get her in the air (I mean, you CAN...but don't)...you CAN learn this skill, and when you master it, you'll be a much better pilot!

    Do you have any ideas on how to keep the plane from wanting to nose dive during take off I have the battery as forward as possible. Flys grate once you get up. Cg is just barely ,slightly toward the nose , when I bring battery back a bit it helps on the grass runway. Just surprises me that it wants to nose dive .?

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  Před 3 lety

      You have to use the elevator and right rudder to counter the P-Factor. It's a tough skill to get right! Once you get a feel for the plane, you'll feel so accomplished. It's not easy, but you can do it! Grass must be VERY short to get this plane on it's mains...but if you want you can even grab the tail and lift it and push it along to get it started if you want to do wheels up/wheels down on taller grass strips.

    I will have to look into getting a smart charger and smart batteries. I typically use chargers that don't need a power supply. Would the dual one u showed that is AC do 3 and 4S packs OK, or a single l 6S 5000?
    After using velcro on packs over the years, I would likely wanna try velcro on the pack and on the tray, then possibly 1 strap around the pack?

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  Před 3 lety

      There are two chargers that work great with AC...
      The S2100 bit.ly/3ftGEyR (two lipos at a time) and S1100 bit.ly/3exoRWh (one lipo at a time).

    Hey, any tips on how to replace the landing gear struts. I can’t seem to be able to find out how to get the struts off the main retract motor/servo.

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  Před rokem

      You can unscrew the 4 mounting screws, then drop it down, and you can actually do it with the retract up AND down...you usually have to cycle the gear, if you want to do it while still in the holder...but you can also take the top off the retract, then just pull the thing apart - SMALL SCREWS ON THE SIDE - DON'T LOSE THEM!!!! - then you can use a metric driver to back off the set screws, and she'll come out...
      HOWEVER - if they're NOT yet broken, but only bent, try supporting it and bending it back - you can get a couple "bends" back, if you're careful - good luck!
      Not hard, but you need a small phillips for the case on the retract. Dig in, it's not the first or last time you're going to need to do it....speaking from a lifetime of crashing ;)

  • @57heeler
    @57heeler Před 2 lety +1

    Ok with this plane...It comes stock with the AR636 and a eflite ESC. If I want telemetry on my NX8 will I have to replace both the RX and the ESC or just the ESC to the Avian 45 amp. I know forward programming is through the RX but I'm not reprogramming it I just want the good stuff like pack life and such.
    So replace both or just the ESC, thanks in advance.

    My June Nite came with the tailwheel slightly off center and I got tired of it not taxiing straight. So I just tried to unscrew the 4 screws on the bottom but I was only able to get 3 off. The last screw won't loosen. I assume that I need to get that last screw off in order to access the clevis?

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  Před 2 lety

      Yeah, probably. If you can't get it to come off, try heating the screw, and pulling the screw into the plastic to melt new threads. This might help you get the cover off????
