Something I've noticed is you seem to get bored by sounds easily. Slight similarities or undynamicness seem to really bother you. So for people suggesting songs for you they're not taking into account you like unrecognizable diversity between tracks and quick dynamic songs that don't stay on a part too long. Feel like I finally hit the nail lol.
I suppose that explains the Fools on Parade/Bulls on Parade tangent from Humbug. But to me at least this album is diverse and doesnt stay on one melody for too long aside for Only ones who know, but the lyrics are great on that so I thought that would usurp the more basic instrumentation. Also, the Sicko Mode comparison just seemed like a stretch. Most music is similar in the way it is usually in 4/4 time signature and drums are used to signify beats etc. If you stretch enough you can find similarities between anything, so I have never understood the leaps in logic Brad sometimes makes. It seem pointless.
He's gotta listen to Mr Bungle or Vampire Rodents, I feel like he'd freaking love it

Suck It and See is different enough I think. It's actually my favorite although I like all of their albums.
i hated that album for years then one day it clicked, same with humbug
Sonically, the tune is quite diverse in that album..
And seeing how Brad is so into dynamics and can't be arsed with repetitive melody, I think he could suck it and see..

Teddy Picker - 3:33
D Is For Dangerous - 6:05
Balaclava - 8:02
Fluorescent Adolescent - 10:58
Only Ones Who Know - 12:10
Always love your vids because of the excellent editing and comedy... but it is frustrating to watch when you appear to decide you don't like something upon hearing it instantly. (I may be slightly mad about The Only Ones Who Know, which I consider to have a beautiful sound with elegant and poignant lyrics).
The words of Simon Armitage, the UK's Poet Laureate (essentially the lead poet of the country) had this to say on Alex Turner, and specifically the lyrics of Only Ones Who Know:
'Songs are often bad poems. Take the music away and what you're left with is often an awkward piece of creative writing full of lumpy syllables, cheesy rhymes, exhausted cliches and mixed metaphors. But of all those writing lyrics today, Turner is among the most poetic. His use of internal rhyme exists to be admired and envied. And where some songwriters are never able to get beyond the drama of their own lives and diaries, Turner is more than capable of sidestepping his own experience and producing telling little mini-dramas populated by keenly observed characters. The song Only Ones Who Know is typical of this second-person approach, a wistful lament on lost chances and wrong choices. '
He always do that and... yeah it's pretty much annoying l0l
yes this song is perfect
This Song is amazing

We need that Turn on the Bright Lights reaction
Hell, or even Antics. But I think Bright Lights is certainly a more proper introduction to Interpol.

I'm calling it now, he's gonna get to 505 and he's not gonna be feeling it, but then he's gonna be left speechless
America's just don't understand the English language enough to enjoy the lyrics and wit of Alex Turner
I feel like the arctic monkeys are so British that if you aren’t you just won’t get them the same
You just can’t get how well they represent the culture
David Van horn so true, literally the epitome of British teen culture.
Doesn’t mean that it’s good man
daft punk is playing at my house at lot of these songs are way more chilled so that you can appreciate the lyrics more, if the lyrics mean nothing to your culture your probably just gonna be bored, that’s what one of his complaints is no?

a day where brad doesn't reference tøp is the day where he begins to like regional at best. so...🤔
Brianstorm is just talking about a guy named Brian who dresses different and effortlessly catches the attention of everyone in a room
Right, i don’t know how this will be received but In my honest opinion AM’s first two albums will only be fully appreciated by people from the UK who grew up as they were releasing them. Especially from a lyrical point of view.
They so perfectly encapsulate and soundtrack UK mid 2000s youth culture to a point where anyone who hasn’t experienced it would not be able to relate to it.
Just my opinion, love to hear everyone else’s takes.
I definitely see where you’re coming from, seeing as they weren’t massively successful in the US until the release of AM. Plus there’s a lot of English slang and phrases in the lyrics so it can cause confusion for other audiences
I actually have to disagree, I agree that Americans can’t appreciate it completely because for whatever reason they just don’t get the lyrics ( I understand the slang language barrier) but even just Alex’s poetry they don’t seem to grasp what he’s actually getting at and it’s a damn shame as it’s what makes him one of the greatest to ever do it, however where I disagree is I grew up in Ireland and actually didn’t hear their music that much, obviously there are some exceptions ie I bet you look good on the dance floor, when the sun goes down, fluorescent adolescent ext, but I only really starting listening to them at university a few years ago and I’ve completely fallen in love with them, my culture is very different than the British, I didn’t experience the same things yet they speak so much to me, anyone can fall in love with Arctic monkeys because they’re so accessible to everyone, if you don’t like the gritty garage rock you can throw on AM, if you just want to chill out you can pop on TBHC, hell even if you want to hear some orchestral music you can give The Last Shadow Puppets a go
Edit: just re reading your comment and remembering that you were talking about the first two albums specifically lol, got sidetracked whilst writting my comment but I think my points still somewhat valid hahaha
@@123GaryBreslin123I dont think its the slang or even the accent, its the personality of the albums. They are the embodiment of British 2000's, i know thats probably the worst explaination
Dark View I get where your coming and I actually agree, it’s definitely an embodiment of the British 2000s (specifically England) but what I’m saying is I didn’t grow up in Britain during the 2000s, and they’ve become my favourite band ever, I know Ireland isn’t far but culturally its completely different, and trust me I’ve lived in both Ireland and England and they’re completely different places, so I suppose my point is that no matter where you’re from, even if American, if you put a bit of effort into listening to them anyone can be touched by their music, thematically it’s still relatable no matter where you’re from, Alex’s witty lyrics are still funny no matter where you’re from and most importantly they sound f*****g class!
Hmm I don’t know. I was born quite a few years later than yous who experienced the albums being released and I feel like I can relate. I don’t think youth culture has evolved that much in the past decade and a half.
his reaction to Only Ones Who Know

Honest question - do you see this album growing on you or not at all? It also didn't punch me in the face with its first listen, as Whatever People Say did, but a few listens really makes you appreciate hidden subtleties.
It's by far my favourite AM album today...
BRAD CAN YOU STOP LISTENING TO ARTISTS DISCOGRAPHY OUT OF ORDER? You can listen any way you want I understand however, if you are gonna review music you wanna step in and see the progression not be like OH I HEAR HUMBUG here. If you didnt listen to it you wouldn't have that comparison (much like when people heard this album when it came out in its time) and would be able to digest it as a new concept and then in Humbug you could have eventually said "Oh I hear some things they KEPT from Favorite Worst Nightmare." By doing this out of order you set a precedent and an expectation for failure. Funny enough you dont like the second albums for both The Strokes and Arctic Monkeys (so far we'll see if you change in pt.2) and both albums are revered as the best by many people (not myself since I just appreciate all of the albums for as they are and try to imagine their perspective). I also feel like you don't grasp lyricism well, but that's a different critique all together so whatever.
