This is almost as crazy as Denmark finding out they were playing in the European Championship a year before this. To give some context, Denmark had failed to qualify for the Euros in 1992 having finished second to Yugoslavia in their qualifying group. Many of the players were on summer vacation with one having his kitchen remodeled. However because Yugoslavia had tragically plunged into civil war the previous year (and had been banned from all international sports competitions as a result), Denmark took their place in the Euros. Denmark then pulled off one of the biggest shocks in the history of soccer by winning the whole thing beating Germany 2-0 in the final.
That was a crazy year for Cal. 9-0 (including the bowl game) with QB Dave Barr healthy, 0-4 with Kerry McGonagle starting when he was hurt. I always wondered how good that season could have been if Barr had started all 12 games. That comeback Vs. Oregon was insane that year.

That's a crazy story! What a way to find out you made it to a bowl! Cal ended up having to play at-large Iowa due to Rice and Baylor each being one Division I-A (now FBS) win short of bowl eligibility.
Texas (5-5-1) as well after going 0-3-1 in non-conference play.

I actually have a story along the same line. My junior year of high school, I was on my high school's quiz bowl team and the soccer team. Both me (who played striker) and the goalie were on both. In the regional quiz bowl competition, we had placed second in the region, winning two of our matches by a combined 480 points. But we lost another match by 10 points, so we didn't make the state competition. In soccer, we were having a good year, and were 12-2 on the season, and actually playing the team we had lost to for the region in quiz bowl. We were down 0-2 at halftime, and after our coach finishes talking to us, the person who ran quiz bowl, a french teacher, ran up to us and told us that we had made state quiz bowl and the competition was the next day. Turns out that the state competition had changed the format, and were now allowing one "wild card" team based off of point margin at regionals, making us the "wild card" team. We went back into the game, and ended up winning 3-2, with us taking the lead on a shot I made. We then went to state quiz bowl and placed in second in the state the next day. We ended up going 16-4 in soccer, losing in the state semifinals.

The past couple weeks I've gone to twitch and it's showing offline
There was no trivia this week. Graduated from law school. The other cancellation from about a month ago was due to my body completely crashing on me. Other than that, we’ve done trivia every Wednesday night this year.
We have our Jackpot Game next Wednesday night, though, and we’ve got trivia every Wednesday night after that.
