These cars look so much better in person
White looks amazing on this color. It shows all the nice details.
I love the versatility of my black hatch
Great review Steve. This trim really seems to be the sweet spot, and black is definitely the color (hides that weird black plastic trim). Makes me feel old, because I'm not sure I'd be happy in this trim level anymore. Honda manuals continue to be great, though.
I think this edition of the Civic Hatch is the one fan boys and import tuner crowds have been waiting for.
Billy Sou si coupe for just a few more dolla's
Getting my 2018 sport hatchback manual tomorrow. Dark gray paint. Black/beige interior. Has everything I need except moon roof.
can't wait for you to review the type r
This car is hot. Thanks for this review Derek!
Anxiously awaiting the Si and Type R! May be a home run!
I haven't seen a video of the Civic hatchback vs Mazda 3 hatchback. It would make a great one.
amazing review 👍
this was my first choice but that changed when i saw a video of toyota chr.....i just wish the chr has an engine like this 174hp 31-40mpg
I would purchase this now instead of waiting for the Si if it had an upgraded audio system with the manual.
vothry Get a professional audio system installed. Better than anything Honda would offer.
ericj305 I highly doubt an upgraded aftermarket audio system would void the warranty.
vothry That head unit is shameful. Looks like it came out of a 2001 Toyota . No leather wrapped steering wheel in a sports model. Really?? In 2017 you shouldn't have to live with a crappy audio system. Even lower end cars offer decent audio systems.
The audio system is not THAT bad. I will probably swap out the stock speakers for some higher end ones in the future. It's better than the sound system in my last car - a 2011 Honda Fit Sport (which had the high-end system available at the time).
Anyone knows about differences between hatch and 1.5T in terms of driving dynamics?
I have a 2017 civic sport hatch manual like your old white one . Its only 13 months old and the front floor mat already has a hole in it ! It took my 2000 civic SI 15 years to wear out the floor mat ! The interior and the paint job on this car (its black ) is so cheap man if you vacuum it too hard the sides near the doors caves in ? anyone else notice this on their 10th gen civic?
Can't you believe it the turbo engine is tiny even the Hyundai Veloster has a big engine!
Hey Steve. Great straight to the point review. I agree with you regarding the feature content but there is always a drawback.
Thanks very much!
Lol CVT has better fuel economy man can't beat the computer in shift, other than that great video
I'm waiting' to coming from UK half years later.
Serious question, so I can use premium instead of unleaded?
Put this engine into the HRV. Need my ground clearance.
Very nice Car.
If this had a great sound system it would be absolutely fantastic. Great car for 22K.
The sound system is not terrible. I'll probably replace the stock speakers on my Hatchback Sport with some higher-end ones soon.
1:23 , he said it’s a “ big butt” lmao
Yet it doesn't even have variable intermittent wipers... Honda, why must you spend $30k to have common features?
brorowcarwiz vvg
brorowcarwiz it's available on the EX ;)
But then you lose the Sport package, leather wheel, etc etc... Ugh. Love the new Civic but hate traditional Honda trim levels and packaging. Just unnecessary.
How does it compare to the Elantra Sport?
I'm pretty sure it's a Single-scroll turbocharger.
You mentioned the uprated front stabilizer bar -- what's different about this one compared to the standard models?
According to Honda, the Hatchback's front stabilizer bar is upgraded from the Sedan's unit. The result is crisper turn-in and flatter cornering for the Civic Hatchback. Front and rear stabilizer bars on all trims improve turn-in response while reducing body roll during cornering. The stabilizer bars are bonded to their mounting bushings and use low-friction connecting links for smoother operation. All Civic Hatchbacks use a tubular front stabilizer bar.
Cool. Yeah, I'd like to know whether it's thinner or thicker (thicker front bar = more understeer). Maybe we'll need to wait for a deep-dive analysis from Grassroots Motorsports or one of the forums.
i payed 30grand for mine wtf
Another review I watched commented on the stick shift was terrible and felt like a Logitech computer shifter. Your thoughts?
Mag Border -- I am curious of this as well. If true, it would certainly be uncharacteristic of Honda to make a sloppy manual gearbox.
Mag Border Ha!!! Must be someone who's never driven a good one! This stick is great.
It was someone who is skilled at performance driving and has driven all manner of cars
You know what opinions are like.
I don't know who said it, but considering every other trust worthy reviewer has loved the shift box, I'm gonna go ahead and say he doesn't know what he's talking about
Honda made a VERY good Civic after the 2006~2014 malaise era. While the 1.5T is nice, the fact VTEC will not available until you step up to the insane Type R is a disappointment.
The 8th generation was not definitely malaise. The 9th gen, yes. The 8th gen was surpsingly smooth to drive, even the five speed manual. Owned it for ten years before getting a 6 speed 2018.
How is it in snowy weather?
I wish I remembered!
now that was a good review. There are so many shitty reviews out there that are ridiculously long winded.
Music to my ears. Thanks, Justin.
The EX-L CVT is more to my liking. Don't want to row gears no more.
The EX-L CVT is great. S gear is Sport mode and it's great. Hope you enjoy yours.
That's nothing to be ashamed of. Kaitlin Jenner is still well respected in spite of becoming effeminate too.
how is the cvt less economical?
Todd Medium Wellington Gets worse mileage.
+Todd Medium Wellington yeah
Todd Medium Wellington it doesn't get the worst mileage it's great it get 35 mpg which is better than the manuals!
There might be a recall for a fix idk!
Todd Medium Wellington No it doesn't. Manual gets 33mpg combined versus 32mpg with the CVT.
civic hatchback > civic sedan
people's elbow even with the vents?
Why not GTI just saying lol
Because it's a VW. I don't have the time nor the money for repairs, so I'll stick with the Honda.
Cant beat Honda reliability
When manufacturers send the press a very dark color test vehicle, particularly black, its because they are worried that the lines are ugly and know that black will hide it a bit. Pontiac did this with the Aztek, at first usually sending yellow cars as they were proud of it, and then at the horrible reception started sending black cars, lol!
To each, his own. I love the "lines" on my new Hatchback Sport. Plus, it's a blast to drive!
nah DCT is better
The huge nostrils front and back are fugly, and the black wheels don't help. The sedan is much easier on the eyes .... But I realize beauty is in the eyes of a buyer.
Bad shift at 50 sec
backend of this car is so ugly
This thing is trying too hard.
I just cant see myself buying a car like this unless I was poor and couldn't afford something better
ant sala I could afford a BMW 3 or Lexus IS, but I chose the 17 hatchback LX because it's perfect for camping and fishing, and it's very fun to drive. My previous car was 09 Acura TXS and it was crap compared to this hatchback.
Glad you're wealthy enough to afford a BMW or whatever. For the rest of us, the Civic Hatchback Sport is a REAL deal! Fast, sporty, yet economical on fuel. I love mine!
This is often what people say that are still making payments on their more expensive car two years later, have little liquid savings, make minimal contributions to their 401K, and have either no or a laughable stock portfolio, and opted for a 40 instead of 15 year mortgage.
That shit looks like a prius. lame.
Must be time for your eye exam.
