The newest Honda Civic is a fantastic car in every respect. In fact, pretty much the only way I can think of improving upon the well-rounded sedan and coupe is to add even more storage space. Meet the Honda Civic Hatchback.
The newest Civic body style can carry almost anything you throw at its roomy hatch, and the innovative side-mounted cargo cover makes folding down the back seats even more seamless. Up front, it has the same practical interior, fuel efficient turbocharged engine, and effortless driving dynamics we like in the Civic. sedan and coupe. All in all, that sounds like the perfect formula for the Honda Civic to compete with all the latest compact hatchbacks, including segment leaders like the Mazda3, Chevy Cruze, and Volkswagen Golf. Find out how well it performs in our latest Why Buy?
SPECIFICATIONS:
Engine: Turbocharged 1.5-Liter I4

i own this car and i personally love it. there's so much space, it's super reliable, and as a bonus people always stop and ask me what kind of car it is, if its modded, etc etc.
even had a guy call it a "super civic"
i just love the fact that it's so unique and genuinely looks like a sports car (but with AMAZING gas mileage!)
Honda did a great job giving the hatchback a sporty look. Without looking extreme like rich sports cars.
I like it as well I can store so many groceries in the back its amazing. Does decent in the snow while all maintaining 35mpg
are you still enjoying the car?
every time i hear him say hatchback, i hear that duck from the aflac commercials.
I read your comment just as he was saying "hatchback." You're right!
hao duong omg I thought I was the only one lol
hao duong lmfao
Yes
Bro what the fuck 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Your template review platform maybe my favorite of all other reviewers I follow on CZcams. I will indeed be subscribing. Great job
0- 60 time in this Civic is 6.6. 0 - 60 time in the Mazda 3 with the 2.5 engine is 8.3. The Civic is faster, quieter, roomier and gets better gas mileage.
Ben Stern I’d take my mazda 3 gt any day over this ugly turd. And I have had 5 mazdas and not one problem with them. Had 2 hondas and they had issues like crazy
Had both Mazda and Honda cars, never had issues with either brands but Honda are statistically far more reliable than Mazda.
Rey Delgado might be the driver lmao. If you floor it constantly trying to look cool like an idiot you have a higher chance of fucking up your car.
i have camry 2018 xse 2,5 i4 , 0-60 is 8,6 😂 its so stupid , i am gonna trade in with civic
isn't 8.2 declared by Honda with manual gear? CVT is even slower... where you get the 6.6 figure? downhill?
I own one, and I love it! Pretty fun to drive, and it's flashy. Got the Blue one, purchased it in January, and still have yet to see another one on the road. Gets a ton of looks and comments. Averaging about 37 MPG, and until you see the dashboard for yourself, with all it's graphics, you don't know what you are missing out on. As a whole, for a Civic, and in this class, it's pretty impressive.
Muszart I have a rally red sport, I always get compliments on it. Video and pictures don't do the car justice.
Muszart how about ground clereance compare with sedan version? sory for my bad english
What color do you think looks best for day and night
CVT. it does pretty good...but if you are going for racing, go with the sport with the manual. The CVT lacks the punch that a manual tranny gives.
I would want to install my own video player in the front dash for music videos etc, would that be possible in the front do you think?
I have the Kenwood DDX319 dvd receiver that takes USB media and plays videos. Would like tom know if I can install it in this
Just bought a new LX. I think it's perfect for us older people too: this hatch is going to take me fishing, run my grandkids around in style, and is very fun to drive. Oh: and 40 mpg? Yes please and thank you. Nice review.
Thank you Brad for alluding to us older drivers. I read a couple of comments here and thought maybe at 60 years of age I should not buy a Civic but you've restored my belief :) Please see my comment above, suffice to say I love the looks of the car, so very very different :)
@@Dahliaman1 The styling is what drew me to his car , The way it drives and the ride quality is what made me fall in love with it. I'm 47 by the way , I guess that matters in some circles. I bought the EXT model in cosmic blue metallic and I could not be happier.
I have a 2019 model I bought brand new.. Absolutely brilliant car
I think the design is quite cool, because the design of this car so different from current trends, it has that sci-fi cyberpunk looks, it's almost like it's something from Ghost In the Shell
40 MPG, great pick-up, roomy inside, Honda reliability, aesthetics that give the car some personality (unlike VW Golf "box with wheels").
No need for any other car to exist.
it is good in highway but not so good in city
I completely agree, I really wish the higher trim levels can be configured with the Manual Transmission!
i bought a EX black hatchback and I LOVVVVVEEEE ITTTT
Glad Honda finally makes a car towards younger car buyers. Gone are boring bland boxes.
sportsMike87 that’s why you go buy the Si....Better suspension, trans, brakes, and it’s only 24,000 new why pay 29k for a lesser trim...
those 'bland boxes' can make you rich if you stop trying to compete with other people and always have to have 'new' features.
@@racekrasser7869 yes my 98 civic has bought me houses and im 25. People only see nice car and not nice car they dont look at the bigger picture.
BEST BEST CAR REVIEW I HAVE SEEN..
Im in the market for a new 2019 Accord sport 2.0. I'm also considering the civic sport touring as well. So far no one has come close to answering all of my questions as you have. Thank you.
I just got mine last night. I got the LX trim and even at the base model, it is packed with features and great looks. Oh, and the LX trim has the volume know.
I had a Swindon-built Civic hatch when I lived in the UK. Great quality control! It's nice to see that they're coming from Swindon for the North American market.
just purchased a polished metal hatchback EX and i love it! controlling volume from steering wheel makes the volume knob issue seem inconsequential. Great overall review! I'm 24 and this is my first owned car - i hope to take really good car of it and have for about 15 years - then electric self-driving cars will have taken over and i'll just buy a membership or whatever!
Good idea :D. I'm also 24 and im looking to grab this aswell very soon. Can I ask you. How is this on bumpy roads? Like roads with tiny pot holes.
you paid cash?
Of course he did paid cash lol
I only pay in cash watch my channel
Hey you wrote this comment 3 years ago. Three years later today, do you still feel the same way about the ride?
Best review I’ve seen of this particular car. Well done.
Own one, love it 37 MPG and it’s a little sports car. Handles great and got some get up and go. More compliments ever day
Red makes it look perfect 👌
Does anyone know if this is useful fo the winter????? Thanks
Welp, this video has pretty made it so I have to buy this car tomorrow. Thanks.
Question to owners, do u put premium fuel in it? If not can u feel the difference in power? Thanks!
I have the 2017 Sport. White and black. Not seen one like it in my area. Put it in sport mode and let it go! Whoo Hoo!
Totally agree about the NEED for the six speed manual in higher trim levels.
Same Here!! So frustrating that you cant find many standards of ANY make in higher trim levels!!!! You cant even order them!!! Booo!
Manual driving is so much more fun!
Lucky is canadians always had to option and yes on a sp touring
Do you also have dent above back passenger doors of the car ? Because in Turkey there are so many FC5 owners faced this problem and Honda Turkey does not accept that dent problem is their fault etc. What about Honda Civic Sedans in U.S. ???
I just got an LX Hatch 6-speed and it makes the car a literal budget hot hatch.
Just bought the Civic Sport with the 6MT. Looks like this one but gunmetal grey and not as many accessories (Preffered for me)
LOVE it. I get about 38 MPG's in Econ mode. Well over 40 on the highway. Out of Econ mode it hauls a**. Not a racecar but definitely an upgrade from my2015 Honda Fit that I just sold.
Not as much room in the rear as my Honda Fit, but better in every way otherwise. I kinda miss those magic seats in the Fit as well.
What they need to do is make the Fit Sport with this engine/transmission combo..... I'd definitely take that.
Drove one as a loaner and it’s so damn nice. Wish the Hatchback had an SI version
I like your review it is clean and informative very nice.
Great review! Thanks!
Daughter got the Civic SI with the 6 speed stick. Awesome car. Makes the turbo sing.
i love Civic Hatchback !
Assalamualaikum.. I just waiting the manual transmision ..who a Honda no buil it?
Thinking about getting one of these, I want to add it the type R body kit after buying it.
Finally a video done in Detroit, MI!
superb review
This latest Civic just feels so much better to drive than the previous Generation Civic. The CVT has also been greatly improved. Weather you go for Manual or CVT, I think you would be pleasantly surprised how good this latest Civic feels to drive. The 1.5 Turbo has so much torque when compared with the old 1.8.
Never cared about Honda ever in my life. Then all of a sudden I heard Red Bull is getting Honda units. And just a few days after I saw this hatch. Did some research and came across the Sonic Gray color.
Following week went into the dealership and bought it in ST trim and Sonic Gray color. Not only myself but people loved it and still to this day I get compliments.
In Canada, till 2018, SGP color was only available in ST trim and even Type R was missing out. Many veterans came complimented me on color as well.
All in all this is an incredible car. I can’t complain at all. It’s indeed a hot hatch 😄
Anybody have that gas mixed in the oil problem???
It's funny when you say "hatchback" hiiiietchbeeeck. LMAO 😂🤣😂🤣
Beautiful car, different from the boring Golf ect!
Bought this car! Best car ever
Is Apple CarPlay and AndroidAuto still wired in 2017? oO
In the UK and Europe all models are available with manual gears
It's a shame no one had compared this to the mazda 3 and subaru impreza. I'm having trouble which of these 3 to pick to see which is most refine, handles great and has the best luxurious feeling but at the same time is powerful and has all the gadgets and safety tech
I test drove all 3. Personally liked the Civic Sports Touring the most.
Would really like to see that japanese reliability work on these turbo petrol engines. Over the years automakers had loads of problems with them...
Kiwi in US?
I liked your review but would like to know how good/bad it would be on a longer trip (open road/expressway) for a driver 6 ft. tall? Is the driver seating cramped, is the seat "hard" or fairly comfortable? Is there adequate head room? Thanks much for your information.
This is four years ago 😂 but I’m six foot my shits perfect
I'm 14 and a half and I get my driver's license in 2 months. My dad likes that it's affordable and safe. I love how it's modern and stylish!!!
Does this car actually need to be filled up with Premium Gas???? Or is it okay without it???
Can we get it in pakistan
Honda will forever be above all other car companies.
No decent pictures of the dash?
I test drove the Civic 1.0 SE turbocharged CVT version today and I was mightily impressed for several reasons. Personally in the looks department I think its stunning from all angles and sides. The car is longer and wider in reality than it looks in videos and photos. The boot is large in the class, very handy for say a babies buggy. I was very impressed by the safety features, especially as its a comparatively basic version being the SE. It has a parking brake button hill assist, lane assist, and something I was blown away by was the cruise control/speed limiter (these are my own words and using as a descriptive). In simple terms if you apply the cruise control at say 60mph and the car in front slows down, for example from travelling at ther national speed limit (70mph) into a built up area (30mph) then the Civic will also slow down to match the car in front without the driver having to do so - brilliant :) Can you tell I was impressed???? Have to finish with a comment I read about the car that I thought was awesome and it went along the lines of 'the Civic looks like someone threw a load of transformer bits up into the air and when they landed this is what happened' :)
I have a blue SE model with the manual transmission.. Bought it brand new 2019. Absolutely love it
@@riopugh8220 What I note I did not say was in regards to the CVT gearbox. I did go back to the dealers for a 2nd test drive and my thoughts were confirmed. To this day I still love the shape/look of the Civic, to my eyes its eye-catching and an aggressive looking 'pretty' car. But the bug bear to me and being disabled needing an auto' gearbox, the CVT is 'horrible'. Its noisy like some grumpy old fart of my age! If it had the DSG as in our Seat Leon or even Torque Convertor as in our Ford Fiesta it would transform the auto' versions. Back to the looks, there are not many 'family cars' I consider better looking than the Seat Leon of the past few years but the Civic definitely is more appealing to the eye. Having said ALL this, opinions are exactly that so if any reader considers the Civic looks hideous then hey fair enough. Did I say I think te Civic is a stunner - omg the type R 'WOW'!
Nice video! Thanks!
Idk why the top end touring only gets a cvt. If they have it a real auto or manual option in the US I would have got it but just that alone makes the mazda3 best compact hatch still
The last ooil change for a Honda 10th Gen. super agile handling
can't wait after high school to get one...
For the USB data cable, it doesn't have to be a nuisance. Buy a 3' USB cable as I did and roll up excess cable, store it on the bottom level holder. Then you feed the cable through the top and boom. No cable mess.
As for the infotainment center stack controls, I haven't seen a single system that isn't perfect. Honda has it's flaws too, but overall, it's not too bad. It's slow of course. There are a number of times in which I wanted the AC on and just don't want to wait for the screen to light up and respond. It takes awhile to boot and within 15-20 seconds, you can finally turn on the AC. The sucky touchscreen system makes up for it by having a clean interface and reduces clutter in the car with all those old school conventional controls and buttons. The Civic does have an excellent, clean interior layout. Especially the dash because 90% of the functions and controls are on the touchscreen and steering wheel.
That's it. Everything else is perfect. For a Honda Civic. I say this because I actually own a 2017 model so I'm allowed to make these comments. Overall, an excellent buy if you want a compact sedan. It's the largest Civic to date, the most power, and the most feature. Honda Sensing makes it almost like a smart car, but will never replace driver intuition.
Cheers.
I'd like a mix of Civic hatchback and fit. So small-ish with a good amount of power.
I'm still deciding either go with the Honda Fit Ex or this Civic hatchback
Civic Hatchback is superior in every way to the Fit. Much better performance AND better gas mileage! You can't beat that!
A manual trans would be awesome in this trim level
How about the Tire(road) sound guys? Does the car takes that sound inside? Please answer if you know :)
No road noise I notice. Some wind noise at high speeds. Overall, pretty quiet.
S Kirk Thank you
That was a concern of mine as well. My current 2006 Civic is super noisy on the highway. Hoping the new Civics improved on that. Looking to replace my old vehicle next year with a Civic Touring trim.
These are older videos they don’t mention the real problem with these vehicles though, it comes with 1.5 tl engine it has a oil dilution problem meaning gasoline and oil engine are mixing due to the design of this engine.I have yet to find another owner owning it for years now.
I think the disc rotors should be a little bigger.
9freelandk Love the gloss black accents over the cheap looking chrome. Wish they would take off all the vents though. Center exhaust is a great touch.Really happy Honda made this with a manual
Blake Swan buniyaad42
They look a bit dinky but the car stops incredibly well. Especially in the Sport trim (which I have) with the wide tires and light weight it stops incredibly well and with little drama.
is realy fun to drive... if put it S mode and semi manual
Good review
If only the SI come in a hatch but it should cause SI always come in hatch or coupe...I would of got the tuning mode if it come and 6 speed manual but to bad it don't..
Your wish came true, they've released the ST with a manual 6sp
Here in asia we dont get the twin pipe
I want this car but all these years later it's still very expensive. Hasn't gone down much in price.
Which is better the ex, ex-l or ex-t?
ex-t is the fully loaded top of its class
Nazareth Preciado yea. That's what I'm gonna get now. Thank you :) ;-; sadly I gotta wait a couple more months
Thanks for the solid review. But as I posted on another reviewer's video... I don't get how it is that all of these recent videos keep saying the Sport Touring trim doesn't have a manual transmission. I just did a test drive of one at my local Honda dealership two days ago (I live in Peterborough, near Toronto). It was definitely the Sport Touring variant... I triple-checked the badge to be sure. And that was just 3 days after this video was posted. So either this variant is only in Canada, or maybe the manual only hit the market in the last few days. Anyway, my own opinion of driving the Sport Touring variant in the manual is that that's definitely the way to go (if you know how to drive a manual, of course!!) This car is heaps of fun, and it demands to really be driven with a proper stick. I plan on buying mine in September (unless the Si or Type R have been released by that point... that might make my choice really tough... curse on you, Honda!!)
Adrian Ash it seems that Canada offers the sport touring in manual and cvt, and in the us you're stuck with cvt
Its a Canada thing. The USA kinda got ripped off
If this was available in EX-L with a manual, I would've bought it in a heartbeat. Even in EX. Just not fair.
I've driven the 6 speed manual sport and I'd honestly rather have the cvt instead as I'm not impressed. With that said, having worked for Honda for 13 years and driving a 15 si as a daily... The new hatch is my favorite design civic ever.
Honda's last forever! I've been driving them for the past 25 years.
can't believe they make these with auto trans lol. when is the 2 door coming?
Manual or automatic is best?
That's entirely up to the driver. We'd prefer a manual, but ultimately we're not the ones owning it.
So stupid that Canada gets the Sport Touring with a manual, but not us.
I think the coupe is much better looking. I would prefer the hatch to have the better styling since it is more versatile, but I agree with others that it is too busy. Not impressed with the dash flexing at 7:35.
Lol so he is making the assumption that you can't drive quickly without the manual? Clearly, you haven't popped it in sport mode. Becomes a different beast even as an auto.
William Portillo why you so offended tho lmaoo
lil yung does he look so offended to you? Looks like a normal comment
EX-L hatchback, my first Honda and I absolutely love it. 17in wheel is perfect for look and comfort. Interior is way better than LX or Sport. Leather and Navi is a great Plus than EX. CVT is fine and very responsive. Over 40mpg on highway is easily achieved. Very Happy with my CIVIC Hatchback. I was looking for sporty compact car such is WRX or 86, and this is the best combination.
This car has the bedst cvt
The 2017 looks just like the 2018. Anyone notice?
daaang....29gs for this? and the type r is on sale for 33 msrp....thats kinda nuts
Jee Vang im sure its tough but ive seen a few people "claim" they did. just watched a video from hondapro jason where in the comments he says he paid msrp. so its definitely possible. same with the mustang gt350, saw a few people get those too. one guy had to take his back and found another dealership and got a second one for barely over....i think he said he paid 1500 more.
Whenever he says "Hatchback" it sounds like a duck quacking
Because I heard a U.K. Accent I was expecting a right hand drive and talk about cost in pounds, so it's strange to see him on the other side and not reviewing it over this side of the ocean .
God I want dis
I want to get this for my first car it's so attractive ❤️❤️ 😍😍 and who doesn't love a sporty look and i do like the features
is it locked transmission? no thank you..
everybody hate CVT right? or are we just so being a fan?
Edward Reyez Latter, people still buys automatic first gen BMW Mini, and call it "6-speed automatic"
I live and drive in an urban area. At this point in my life (I'm 67) I am over shifting gears in stop-and-go traffic. Love the CVT in my new Civic Hatchback Sport. When I get it out on more rural roads, where I can really open up the engine, the paddle shifters are more than adequate for sporty driving.
In low mode it'll always hold you in the power band. Not as fun as shifting, but faster than most people can shift a manual.
dudes ım in thailand and this guys drive in wrong side what do ı do now?
How about 'stop asking stupid questions' :)
Me at the dentist 2:49.
If you want a manual sport touring, buy a type r
I love it more good for storage and great and cheaper and it's a gas saver and better then Prius and types r beats Lamborghini its a better car for Honda I have seen the video other
The way you say hatchback
You ruined it with a CVT!! Also people over 30 have hatchbacks as well.
you can get the same model in manual o.o.
I know that.
I love CVT
imds123 if you want it to be slower...Than you can get manual👌🏻
6:40 ... He wishes he could be on a manual
you need a manual transmission? here in Germany(europe, not moon) we get a 6 gear manual transmission as a choice! :-P
This is a nice “Aflac” 😅
Love the new civic sport but I just can't get down with the infotainment system... just looks so cluttered and outdated- my opinion
I am a cool dad, that's why I drop off my son in my hatchback.
