    So the reason that the cd rating can be twice as much, but the throw is so similar is that throw is a function of the sqare root of candela over 0.25 lux. In practice what this means is that you have to 4x the candela to 2x the range. So for example, a 25,000 cd light has a range of 316 meters. And a 100,000 cd light has a range of 632 meters (slightly rounded, but you get the point.) The actual equation is D=√(cd/0.25). So if you know the cd of a light, multiply it by 4 and take the square root of that and you have the ANSI rated range in meters.

    Although similar in brightness,
    HT 30 the light beam is more pointed, acute and allows you to reach a greater distance.

    The TK30 fits the pocket or rifle/pistol mount. You can even buy a remote pressure switch. The HT30 is too large for either but is not much difference in power. I like the TK30 better.

    Because Candelaria is only a measurement of intensity of light. Intensity doesn't dictate distance.

    Thanks for a great comparative review of these light-throwing beasts! One question, if you still have them - do you know if the front protection window is made of glass (or sapphire crystal etc) or from plastic/polymer?

    • @flashlightcrazy
      @flashlightcrazy  Před rokem +1

      I no longer have them but I believe it is some type of hardened glass. But don't quote that as it could be something else like sapphire. Definitely not plastic

      @@flashlightcrazy Thanks so much for that info. And I've now had this confirmed by Fenix itself, YES, it is a glass front lens window. 🙂

    Does the memory work for strobe on the TK30? Or just the high and low constant beams?

  • @krepler1
    @krepler1 Před 9 měsíci +1

    300k vs 600k candela: Doubling the power doesn't necessarily allow for double throw distance just like 400hp vs 800hp doesn't allow your car to reach double the speed in the latter.
    You'll see more noticeable gaps at lower power but the higher you go, is like taking off a fraction of a second off your quarter mile. Aside from a different design in the lens and also the electronics of these two flashlights, there will always be atmospheric conditions that will affect the performance output.
    Welcome to Earth!

      I'm in the same boat, for Coyotes. Leaning towards the TK30 due to less weight, and not needing as much throw as the HT30r, but I want a more focused beam and longer distance then typical lights offer. Most 300m rated rail mounted lights aren't actually useable at that distance, and 300 is where i need it to be, for these damn yotes. Which did you end up choosing and how is it working out for you?

      My thought goes to an unexpected self defense weapon. Think about it. In the dark, someone's approaching you with ill intent. Get one of those out and hit the strobe button, point it at their face and blind them.
