  • Richard Hammond has been entertaining us on our screens for over 20 years now, but one car nearly changed things forever - the Vampire jet car. In this video, Hammond sets out DriveTribe's plans for 2022, before attempting to get comfortable again with the 300mph+ land speed car.

My great uncle was in Halifaxes in bomber command in WW2, did two tours. In the late 80s we surprised him by taking him to a museum where they had a complete Halifax. We had pre-arranged for him to be allowed on board to tour the aircraft and sit in his old position (wireless operator/electronic countermeasures operator). When he realised he refused to get on the plane. Stone cold refused. He said "I almost died in one of those awful things on 60 separate occasions and I swore to Jean (his wife) I'd never set foot in one again". Was not quite the experience we had thought it would be, but very telling. To a child (I was about 5 at the time) it was educational to see a grown man be visibly terrified by his memories and left a great impression on me. The museum staff told my dad at the time that this kind of reaction was quite common.
Yeah, PTSD is no joke. I am sure he felt a very real dread getting into that thing. Honestly, I would straight up tell the other presenters not to do it even if they are really enthusiastic.
