      Really well thought out map. I've always been looking for an essential must do list of sorts and general direction but with the amount of resources online it's overwhelming. I'd say I'm somewhat around 4 or 5, with few skills from higher levels and lacking skills from lower levels too.

    Always great content Rob. I spend many years clicking on some many videos, from so many teachers, that I learnt nothing. Your channel stands way above the rest when it comes to explaining music theory application. You videos on the modes are second to non. I have one other educator on CZcams I always check in on, simply because he has a style of playing and articulation that really speaks to me.
    My advice with CZcams educators is to find one or two who ready know their stuff and can explain it clearly, and follow only them for a good length of time. Rob is definitely one of these! As always, thanks for you hard work and dedication.

    Hi again, I believe I came across 1, possibly 2 things that are missing.
    The first is ear training. We are find this difficult but effort is rewarded.
    The second is admittedly less an academic thing but it is songs! We need to remember and enjoy why we are doing all of this learning.

    • @QJamTracks
      @QJamTracks  Před 6 měsíci

      Thanks Tony. Both disciplines are indeed worthwhile mentioning. However I did not put this in the roadmap, because ear training or solfege is a vast course in itself and maybe deserves its own road map. Songs should be part of every subject and discipline but to much to put in this roadmap. If people here have suggestions for songs that fit a certain subject than it would be nice to mention it here...

    Hands down, Rythym is my weakest point as I've hyper obsessed on chords, scales and such but never spent the proper time to focus on even the basics of Rythym or playing well in time.
    Now that I'm writing music via sheet music and midi that gap has been painfully obvious to me these days.

      You have to make a structured practice routine. For example lets say you have 3hrs a day to practice: set aside 1hr for technique (alt. picking / tapping / sweep picking etc.) where you practice a select number of exercises every day over the course of months gradually building up speed with a metronome. Then let's say 30 mins of learning chords or rhythm/strumming patterns. then 30 minutes of improvisation over backing tracks. Then 30 minutes of learing new songs or practicing your repertoire. Then 30 minutes of reading music or ear training.
      Do it the same every day gradually increasing speed and only moving on to a different exercise or piece after you are sufficiently fluent with it. Then if you have free time you can just jam out. Of course you can do only 1hr of structured practice and jam out for 3hrs if that is more fun for you, the ratio is up to you just make sure you have some structure for some of your guitar time. Obviously you can practice only subjects / areas that interest you and divide the time as you like.

I really want to take some structured lessons, I am thinking, is there a perhaps long term music course that you could recommend? Anywhere, I finally feel quite free to move. Online stuff does not really suit me and I want to meet other people with similar interests. I will very much appreciate any suggestions, advice or some words related to this.

      At this moment I do not have a full course and don't know courses on the internet. Maybe there are creators that do. Like creators that I mentioned in the video. It also depends what your goal and initial level is.

    i think you missed one of the most important things to be a complete guitar player - transcription. you occasionally mention songs but for the most part you ignore the fact that learning songs by guitarists & bands you admire are where you make the most significant progress. it's like you've started a cooking school & teach all the ingredients and spices and knife techniques, but never teach the student to actually cook something.

    • @QJamTracks
      @QJamTracks  Před 6 měsíci

      @steevkelly. Hi. t's quite obvious that in every level you play some songs that use the technique or theoretical subject. Otherwise under every of the 200 subjects would be written: 'play a song'...

    • @steevkelly
      @steevkelly Před 6 měsíci

      @@QJamTracks - it's not obvious on your chart. also, "play a song" & "transcribe a song by ear" are two different things. developing the ability to play what you hear isn't called out & is incredibly important. no disrespect to you and this chart, i think it's great. i just wanted to point out that one missing element (imho).

    • @QJamTracks
      @QJamTracks  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Yes it's true that is missing. My motivation for not putting that in the road map is that I think that belongs to ear training and solfege. That in itself is worth a complete learning plan. So I see that as something that should have it's own road map :)
