Visiting All Nottingham Tram Stops

- There are 50 stops on the NET - that's the Nottingham Tram system, and here's why happened when myself and friend Jono (who's from Nottingham) got on and off at all the stops on the network.
Note, we weren't timing ourselves to set a "record" time, but but it took us roughly 6 hours in the end, including tea break!
Correction: I've spelled one of the stops 'Bramcoat Lane', when it should of course be 'Bramcote Lane'
If you want a copy of my Nottingham Tram map, it's available here on my Downloads page: geofftech.co.uk/downloads.html
The 'Tram' T-shirt (and other variants) is available to buy, here: dztz.store/listing/irish-tram
Geoff: “CZcams, I’ve got a problem: I’m addicted to ticking off train stops.”
Me: “Geoff, I’ve got a problem: I’m equally invested in your area of interest. Don’t worry.”
@@bostonrailfan2427 I call it a symbiotic relationship.
Isn't this the support group for transit-related addictions? And I mean supporting the addictions.
@@isroying You have come to the right place.
I'm also addicted to this.
Visited Nottingham for the first time the other day - have to say I was really quite taken with the city . . . And being the transit nerd I am, i rode the whole tram network.
Very impressed with it! An excellent way to get around.
😁I'm old enough to remember Nottingham Victoria station and the wonderful Nottingham Trolleybuses. The city has changed a lot in 6 decades.
Oh nottingham had trolley buses?!
I swear I heard:
"Is that one of the newer ones or older ones?"
"Yes"
"Alright, I concur"
"Is that one of the newer ones not the older ones?"
@@Kylirr thanks, makes sense
Can’t believe you have done a video on Nottingham! The public transport is really good for such a small city it’s quite surprising!
It's not that small- it ranks 15th in UK
Hey Geoff, not sure if you’ll read this, but you do an amazing job of showing us CZcams community people things that we might never see or have heard of!

FINALLY YOU CAME TO MY CITY!!! It’s crazy seeing you walk the streets I walk everyday
yeaah i know its weird the closest thing we got was all the stations!!!!!!!!
think we could speed run the tram quicker than he did? some kind of home field advantage?
Is Nottingham a big city?
@@xx4884xx Fairly, urban population of 800,000 ish. It's a large regional city but nowhere near as large as Manchester/Birmingham.
same here
Having grown up in Nottingham and now living in London it's surreal and unexpected to see you in my home city. I love it! It truly was a historic day when the long delayed tram service finally opened in the early 2000's. I was about 6 and felt like I'd been waiting forever at that point
(Just to be irritating/show off my local knowledge: Basford = Baseford)
My grandma lived in Clifton all her life. When me and my brother visited and we wanted to go to the centre, we'd have to take the bus. I remember it taking ages. It's good that Nottingham finally has a tram. A pity my grandma never lived to see it. :(
An idea for a future video maybe, like a sleeper showdown!? Caledonian VS GWR that would be awesome! Also MASSIVE fan! :))
Do you mean Night Riviera?
@@Rakkietwilok alright southern posho
Such a good idea.
"Newer ones or older ones?"
"Yes." :D
Can I just say, as someone (as a student) who has to commute to Nottingham by the tram must days (from Totan Lane) I feel very honoured that the tram network is on here. This is the first video I've really watched by Geoff and I already feel inspired to do some of these trips that are in his video's
The stop at Nottingham station and the ramps leading towards it looks exactly like something you'd build in Cities: Skylines.
so does the ramp leading up to the Queen’s Medical Centre!
Cannot place stop on elevated track
Also you'd need anarchy to place the tram over the station
hey geoff, we went to nottingham in september 2018 everything by public transport even from france with the eurostar no london and from london to nottingham by train, and there we stayed at The Bentinck Hotel very nice hotel and centrally located opposite the train station and tram station and all buses stop opposite, that tram's were very cool and buses too and we have also been to the Crich Tramway Village by train, highly recommended with kind regards from Wietze Braem, from Belgium
I went on a trip to northern Europe, from Clifton Nottingham, Brussels Luxembourg Germany, all on rails from my house, which was handy the amount of beer I brought back from Cantillon
😋
I live not to far from Crich and have been a few times. It's brilliant isn't it, glad you liked it!
Meet people at slab square in front of the “Council House” at the “Left Lion”
How can you do a video about Nottingham and not mention the Left Lion?
Left lion ,the date didn't turn up lion lol
Great memories - this vid made me miss Notts dearly haha
Great to see progression of the system to include the University, when i lived around there it was a mixture of walking, buses and taxis.
6:05 one cool thing with the level crossings is that up the Hucknall branch there is sometimes a double stay and even a triple stay where there is a train and a tram crossing over and sometimes a tram goes by then a train and then another tram heading the other way
Once at the bulwell crossing I got stopped by a tram and then a train and then another tram and then a train and before the barriers raised a 3rd tram I hope I don't get stuck like that again 🤣
@@jack78946 i saw this video a while ago at the David Lane level crossing where i think it lasted for about 7 or so minutes and there was 1 or 2 trains and like 5 trams lol
@@YoloMenace001 wow I hope never to see that when going across there I try to avoid it as much as possible 🤣

Can’t believe I never knew you were here 😔 must admit I am chuckling at some of the pronunciations of place names 😂
You aren’t the only one!
@@alfiehnotts Another one here 😅
It's not like they aren't announced on the tram 😜
Bazford. 😂
Thank you for showcasing our wonderful city Geoff. If you’d have advertised you were coming I bet you’d have got others to join you. Hope you come again soon
As someone from Nottingham who takes the Toton lane tram from university boulevard to Old Market Square it feels weird watching this. Also very much fitting this was released today considering the castle also has finally opened today.
Thinking of Mick Hucknall seeing the Hucknall signs? You're not alone!
Something got me started...
If You Don't Know him by now, rest assured he knows his target audience very well...
A shame the goose fair wasn't on at the time, or he could've stopped and had some pleasure at the Fairground on the way.
However it's good that a day ticket is only £4.20 as Money's Too Tight to mention.
To Tight to Mention
"Just follow the tram tracks in the road" - that's the exact strategy I use to get from Manchester Piccadilly to Manchester Victoria without losing my bearings!
OK until you wind up in Altrincham.... ;-)
I should have done that looking for the depot in Gelsenkirken and I didnt find it (or was I in Baden Baden , it was late at night)
You shouldn't have difficulties as from picc walk straight up into city centre and through it basically brings you out to Vic Station
As someone who lives in nottingham and can hear the trams from my room this is cool to see !
On a visit to nottingham a few years ago, I was pleasantly surprised by the trams. Clean, punctual and a pleasure to use. A model for other cities to take note of. :)
That's because its a relatively newer LT system unlike Manchester which is being invested in and a bigger used system
Rode the then-brand new tram once in the first week it opened back in 2004, just before we moved from Nottingham to Seattle. I remember it primarily for all the streets being dug up and the pain of trying to get around by car as a result -- but it it was lovely to see our old neighborhoods. Thank you for the ride, Geoff!
Love the perfection of the videos you produce Geoff! You will never be better then any other train geek. Keep up the great work!
@@geofftech2 I know! It must be very hard. Keep up the great work. Can’t wait for the next video.
You may wish to reread what you wrote there.

Geoff, where did you get your t-shirt from? My son would love one, the trams in Nottingham are his favourite thing! (He thought this video was great).
I was gonna recommend this video for you and Andy and also the t-shirt I know there is place in Nottingham the prints t-shirts like them i think it’s near 200 degree coffee off of market sqaure I live in Nottingham so I get the tram all the time

Kevin, I did wonder if I would see you here. Your video is the next on my watch list after Geoff.
Great to see Geoff touring my home city! The tram system is a great innovation.
I must of missed this when it was first uploaded, it's werid seeing you around my home town but at the same time I'm loving seeing you go around somewhere I'm so familiar with! Also even though I'm from Nottingham I didnt know what NET stood for until now, but like you said we just call it the tram! Great video as always Geoff. 👍
Awesome to see my home city's tram network on the channel!
How did I miss this Geoff, love it. I’m from Notts but have shockingly never used the tram, but had been considering doing this…
Yes Geoff! I love Nottingham trams. There was only the one line when I lived there but I popped in last year to do exactly what you just did. Such a great tram system.
going there for uni in september and planning on doing the exact same thing
Hello, Geoff! Always good to see a new video from your channel.
Geoff, every video you do, you seriously blow me away, excellent.
Great video Geoff, I first rode the network in 2015 but my favourites are the night videos from november 2017 and Christmas 2019, very atmospheric.
I love Jono's stern "tram" at the end
If I am not mistaken, those Bombardier trams are the same as we have on the Portland (Oregon) Streetcar. That sure looked like a lot of fun! Thanks Jono and Geoff!!
Stoke needs a system like this for the 5 towns (plus Newcastle) badly!!
My local stop is David Lane, I got on there every week day for 4 years to get to school! I wish I'd happened to be there when you were as I probably wouldn't have believed you were at my local tram stop!
Geoff - So glad you did this video.
Being my local area I did all the stops a few years ago when the extensions to Toton and Clifton opened. I didn't get out at every stop though.
Only one minor, well major issue. Basford is pronounced Base Ford! My parents used to live there and I have relatives who still do ;)
Thanks, keep up the great work.
Thank you for the video Geoff. I always love your System Races or visting every stop. Your videos made me trying to break the time record on the berlin U Bahn. By the way the trams are really nice lookin ones.
That tram system is well integrated into the rest of Nottingham's transportation infrastructure. You had use almost a full day to tick all the stops but I guess alternating between riding trams/walking to stops was the best way to ensure you'd hit all 50. Good video.
Whoop !!! LOVE nottingham and miss it so much and so glad you're showing it. I still need to do the phase 2 phase
Ahhh! Can't believe you came to Nottingham! I'd have tried to find you and say hi! Such a fan! Hope you had fun on the trams 😎🚊🚋
Fun to see you around here! I've wanted to do this myself for ages!
Cheers Geoff, really enjoyed this one. Last time I was in Nottingham the trams only had one phase!
Next do the Cambridge busway the tram that never was, or the Bus Tram depending on how you look at it, honestly keep up the good work man, love watching these vids
These trams have always been a key part of my life! (You started at my local stop!!)
Geoff this is another great video - thank you!
Toton lane at Bardill roundabout … I lived just down the Stapleford lane as they started phase two (building Toton Terminus) and never saw it operational as I’d moved to New Zealand by then … thanks for this, Geoff … trip down memory ‘tram-lane’!
fully was not expecting this but am here for it
Loved it. I would like to see a longer version of that.
Nottingham..yes my home town where I train spotted as a kid
[Edit] you actually went to Beeston, best place in England 👍
Omg this is insane I live in Beeston, and thats where you visited!
Loved this video! There's something so exciting about Tram Bashing!
I have never been to Nottingham but when you did that geoff I know that it is lovely 😍
I like that you're already making commentary to the video all throughout it without needing a director's cut.
I was literally hoping for more and now its happened!
I really hope you visit Sheffield at some point, we have Tram Trains!
It’s great to see a tram video as a tram lover myself
It's so weird seeing Geoff doing a video of my local area! I can just see my flat as well 😅
I love the market Square at different seasons as they pack fill it with either a Christmas fair, summer fair etc. I remember once they had a massive wheel there too!
I still find it weird that there's a tram stop and a massive P&R opposite the secondary school [George Spencer] I went to... Toton Lane & Bardills Island certainly has changed a huge amount! Nostalgic feeling from 20 years of living in Toton & spending time in Beeston and Nottingham. Thank you! :)
Finally a Nottingham video, I’m so excited 😅
we need one of these with the manchester metrolink geoff...
I’m amazed !! I live Bulwell and work at Nottingham station thank you for showing it off !!
There is something really unsettling watching Geoff's videos for years to then watch him walk past my house in this video
What a fun video! Thanks as always!
And now I am - as I have been for quite a while - considering doing the same thing in my city. Maybe not actually setting foot on every single stop, though, as that would probably take far too long. But riding all lines in a day should be quite doable 🤔😃
Finally! Our man Geoff visiting my home town!
I’ve used the trams in Notts for the first time this weekend. Super easy and great to use. Watching this made me dizzy though! 😂
Manchester is waiting for you Geoff
You don't meet in Old Market Square you meet at the Left Lion in Old Market Square!
Thank goodness you had a nice sunny day for this ‘expedition’ - it would be no fun at all in heavy rain or wintry conditions 😉😎👍.
Nice to see the old London Midland moquette on your train to Hucknall from Nottingham (some of the Class 170s been cascaded from the West Midlands to work on the East Midlands), Nice video riding the trams around Nottingham.
Some of the bridges are painted in midland colours
@@chubeye1187 Are they the pregrouping Midland Railway colours just wondering?
I'm suprised to see turbostar instead sprinter at this line...
@@stanley3647 it would have been sprinter up until the past year or-so, the 170s are quite new over here
@@tr673 I still remember single 153 unit in "off peak" at Robin Hood line.
Not a long time ago ;)
Honestly when I move for uni I’m going to miss the tram so very much! The tram is a lovely mode of transport that I utilise to get to and from work and college. I also intentionally sit in the front to watch the driver drive! Lots of fun!
Brings me back for when I lived in Nottingham. I remember the opening, the official day before their was a band from the high school playing and selected guests were invited to travel. The next day it was awesome riding in the tram. Then again I was still a kid, lol :)
That was a great video. Those trams are really really amazing.
You've seen more tram stops than I have living in Nottingham for 24 years. Also it's base-ford.
I clicked on this video so quickly!
I can't wait till you do Edinburgh, Manchester and Sheffield trams..
An excellently-designed system. I especially like the winding loop in the centre section.
If you ask some of the locals, and they may beg to differ.
Great video Geoff. Love to see you do Blackpool trams 🚋
Geoff, we have a thing in Nottingham, the tram beer trail. Start at Hucknall and get off at every stop between Hucknall and market Square and have a half at the nearest pub to each stop.
What What What. You were in my city.
Damn man.
Also the tram is really useful. I really want another line to open up.
Nottingham's got some great public transport already but I'd like to see if expand even more, mostly because I live in the countryside and the bus into the city is once every 30 minutes for most of the day then once an hour after 7pm.
When I get into Nottingham, I generally grab the tram from Slab Square if I'm going to Warhammer World, or from the Theatre if I'm going to the climbing centre, where I'll get off at Beaconsfield Street. A proper day out, considering I normally spend a good 4-5 hours in the city plus the 50 mins it takes to get there and another 50 minutes back.
I've never done all the stops though, never had the need to.
Any case, awesome little feature and don't worry about videos going over 10 minutes, no need to rush through things if they take a bit longer than average, we'll still watch.
Should do all the stops on the Edinburgh Trams...it'll take you about 25mins but you can tick them off👌🏻🤣
Thanks for showing me the bear foot walker in slab square
Would love to see Geoff come to Toronto someday and tackle the streetcar network. No stop-hopping there if you want to tick it all off in a day!
Plus the subway lines in Toronto, would be at least a couple videos!
Just a fun fact for you from someone whose special interest encompasses the lost Nottingham railway tunnels- the tunnel that the Nottingham Contemporary sits in the cutting for isn't buried underneath the art gallery, the art gallery was literally built against the tunnel portal, sealing it off forever. Apparently there's still access to the tunnel hidden in both the Contemporary on the Weekday Cross end and the Victoria Shopping Centre on the Victoria Station end, but of course it's entirely non-public.
I hate the Contemporary, not least because it hid a beautiful piece of Victorian railway infrastructure from view forever, but also because it looks like someone threw up on a bunch of lace and papier mache'd it into a blocky, ugly building.
With you on the Contemporary, I loved Garners Hill, even if was a bit of knocking shop after dusk.. but I have always wondered about the weird little extended part of Vic Centre car park (the John Lewis end, where it carries on for a dozen spaces or so through a wall).. the walls either side look like they’ve been built on top/ front edge of the old station platforms
@@johnd6487 As far as I'm aware nothing was left in the cutting from the old station (here's an image from after demolition- images.app.goo.gl/SeM1eBBUwDX1CgK56 ). Maybe you're thinking of the cutting walls?
Some building got wrecked down
Excellent video Geoff!
Good old Eskdale Drive - that's my local stop. North of Wilkinson Street the trams switch over to a beefier power supply to allow running up to 50mph on the longer stretches between stops. As the tram passes the back of the depot you can feel the moment it happens and they suddenly accelerate faster - particularly on the older trams. Further up it's single track & passing loops too.
i love trams i need to visit nottingham in the future ans see for myself
Lots of the Clifton branch is on the old Great Central Railway, pretty cool.
I loved the trams as a student so easy and pretty cheap. I miss Nottingham, great video
I look forward to you visiting Sheffield's tram system Geoff!
And another city I have to check on a next vacation in the UK... Looks great and trams are always a good excuse to hang around in a city for a few days.
Croydon’s trams do have level crossings, I’ve waited for trams to pass me in my car.
The Croydon Tram doesn't have a proper level crossing with gates though, just typical traffic lights.
@@nathanw9770 a barrier-less level crossing is still a level crossing though regardless of what kind of signals it has.
I think we know you by now, something got you started treating Nottingham's trams like some fairground, anyway, you and Jono are stars; you thrill me!
Wish i'd known you were around, I live literally RIGHT next to a tram stop and would have said hi :)
Excellent video Geoff, surprised you haven’t done the Sheffield Supertram yet, especially since they extended to Rotherham nearly 3 years ago
I'm from Rotterdam and used to live near Nottingham (I now live in Dundee). When the Nottingham trams were being planned, some people on the project went to Rotterdam and looked at the tram system there. The trams in Nottingham now look like a carbon copy of the trams in Rotterdam, including the same colour scheme. The name of the transport company in Rotterdam is RET and both logos are very similar as well. It was quite funny to see for me when I first started using the Nottingham trams...
