      @Yia Vang that's because, as he said in the video, the old leather was more rugged and not as refined. The more rugged the leather is, the less you can see the wear and tear. It's still there, but the texture hides it. That doesn't mean the quality of the leather itself is better.

    I think the newer Coach bags are more refined, but I like the durability of the more rugged vintage bags. I had a vintage coach, and man was that leather thick and tough. Just felt substantial like a premium saddle type of leather.

    I still have my first Coach bag that I purchased in 1987 as a teenager with her first job. it has been through hell and back with me. I retired her about 10 yrs ago but right now if I took her out and gave her a cleaning.... , she would be right back in service. She looks the very same. Indestructible!!!! We used to joke that the 2 things you could never destroy were original Coach bags and Original K-Swiss white tennis shoes. The leather was thick and hearty!!!

    • @kindmama
      @kindmama Před rokem +3

      @dwzxliytrteuiwm8665 hello my friend. I suggest looking at what bag styles you prefer and then shopping based on your taste. I purchased my first Coach from a second-hand shop. I really like the shape and how it sits on my shoulder. I love the inside pocket layout. I do purchase my Coach bags second hand. If you are careful you can get excellent condition for very low price. My most recent bag I only paid 35usd. I am collecting all of the colors of the Lexy Legacy bag. It is my perfect bag and I want all of them.

    • @kindmama
      @kindmama Před rokem +2

      @dwzxliytrteuiwm8665 I will also say make sure you look at inside photos of bags. I almost purchased a very nice tote bag but thankfully I looked inside and saw it was NOT a style I would prefer. I like a lot of pockets and divided bags. I do not like big open spaces in my bags. So keep that in mind. Look for only what you like, not just the name.

    I have a very big question on your comment and hope you can see it and help explain a bit. I watched all your videos and it seems like you have a personal preference for minimally finished leather. Vintage coach is the least finished leather product which is aniline dyed. It’s fullgrained without any corrections. Today’s Coach, we don’t even know what quality grade leather is and I would really appreciate if your video can expose if the new coach also use top grained leather. Given the top coating, it’s hard to tell the quality of the leather.

    Yes. It's durable. Old bags are in high demand. You can sell vintage bags back to Coach. The reloved bags cost 3x more than the original prices.
    The design is better because a top designer from LV left that company. He's been the top designer for Coach for a few years. Coach patterns have coins and other symbols like those found on LV canvas.

    Im a Coach SA. To anyone that is going to Coach boutique to find their first Coach bag. Look or try atleast one of these
    1) glovetanned leather *this is their holygrail of leather equal to krabby patty*
    Character: natural sheen finished, vivid color, smooth grain. Age more beautiful with use. Once the leather broken in, its soft & supple very hugable and squishy. Smells nice too 😅
    2)leather binding (edges are wrap with leather for durability)
    3)nappa leather lining (durable, scratch resistant, luxurious handsfeel & ez to clean) usually found on their 1941 collections
    4) Dont be shy to tell us what you want for a bag because Coach update their design every month so not all bags are displayed on shelf. Some from previous months are kept inside

    Coach is definitely one of the few brands imho that quality has gotten better over time. I think back then it was so much harder to achieve 100% consistently with the technology they had. We could have the same bag, made with the same materials but made by two different craftsmen. Thus we would have two very different experiences, making one a diehard Coach fan and the other never buys one again.
    NOW though with all the tech that is used, bags SHOULD last forever!!!

    I love your videos, but I have to disagree on this one. Vintage coach is rustic I suppose, but beautifully so. The quality in my opinion far surpasses what coach is putting out there now. I have probably around 100 Coach bags in my collection spanning all the decades from the 1970’s to 2023 and I do gently use them. The pillow tabby (the one you take apart here) cracks at a stress point where the flap attaches to the bag. It’s happened on all three of mine, and I’ve had to put a dab of leather glue there with a toothpick to stop the delicate leather from tearing further. The Cassie’s do the same thing, and I’ve seen reviewers complain about this as well. The gunmetal hardware chips. I’ve had brand new pieces come chipped, but certainly with normal use, it’s inevitable. So, I think you have to carry a bag awhile to see what’s it truly made of, and how it functions.

  • @muraliram8802
    @muraliram8802 Před rokem

    For supple leathers, generally vegetable tanned leather is avoided for the following reasons :
    1. The anionic eco friendly tannage can be easily deep dyed through and through , but, we cannot dye them to a saturated color. We can form color lakes on top by precipitating a cationic dye, but, cationic dyes are
    Carcinogenic, though they will be bright. They suffer from poor light fastness. Further,we can not make a supple leather at 1.3 / 1.6 mm thick skins with that kind touch
    2. On the chrome tanned leather the dye works very well. But, they ought to be neutralised after chrome tanning. In that process, the neutralisation has to be and the pH of the bath cannot be raised as it will interfere with tightness Of grain which will result in loose and pipy grains. Therefore, an anionic dye cannot deep penetrate into a chrome leather beyond some degree from the grain and flesh layer. In fact, the leather at that thickness does not call for such a through and through dyeing, as one never reaches that depth of abrasion.
    In order to get avoid patchy dyeing to achieve a uniform distribution, it is common to give some anionic syntans along with the dye and this is widely practiced for making pale bright fashion shades.
    Without taking the conditions of all factors involved, a good technologist makes a good leather optimised.
    It is not fair to pass a uniform rule and pass judgement is a very unfair way of dealing with the subject.
    Technologists are behind the scene at the tannery and since they cannot counter the evaluation of us
    Sitting in market place. All that we can say is that high brands are charging heavy price for their monogram.
    Leather is very labour intensive. Sample organisation calls for employing expensive designers and after several rounds of trials and errors, the construction part gets planned. By and large, the labour cost is very high in the costing. Whether one employs a 2 $ / sq ft leather or 6$/ sq ft per leather, the labour content
    In terms of cost is the same.
    While I appreciate and admire your passion for good leather ( I am in full agreement ), I think, it is better
    To take a neutral view about the leather making. Criticism can only be about the margin of profit.

    Very interesting! I am a fan of the brand coccinele -italian brand and i have few bags that in time have really kept their texture and shape. It would be interesting to know what you think or their leather

    This man has a talent. I would much prefer to buy a high quality bag from a recommended independent saddler. I am not convinced that high end bags are actual value for money and quality?

    it is so refreshing to see a company's quality getting better with time and technology while chanel and LV, supposed leaders in this industry, are cutting back on quality while also raising prices for a money grab.

    In your full grain leather video you mentioned it’s the best quality leather. Vintage Coach is full grain leather. How are the new bags better quality with this, highly embossed leather? The designs may be prettier but the actual leather is not better quality. You can tell by the feel alone. I went to look at the new versions of my vintage bags and the new ones literally feel like cardboard. My bags are soft and supple at 20+ years old. I doubt if these new bags would last 5 years. And the solid brass hardware compared to today’s hollow painted metal? Coach couldn’t sell a bag today using the same high quality materials as vintage bags for less than $1K. They’re reselling the actual vintage bags on their website right now for $600-800. Vintage quality is top notch regardless of the utilitarian design.

    Old focused on usage, new focuses on fashion.
    There are plenty of rugged brands nowadays and for a cheap price too. You don’t go to a fashion store asking for everyday attire, you don’t go into a luxury or a BMW/Mercedes dealership asking for a 4WD and expecting value for money.
    It’s easy to jump on the bandwagon and say: ‘back in my day’ or ‘they don’t make them as they used to’ but it’s just apples and banana nowadays
