Loving to see RTD's sense of foreshadowing by giving us so many questions: who is ruby's neighbour, who are toymakers legions, what happened to the master and most importantly how big is the dr's wardrobe?

Doubt that. The most interesting bit to us is that she didn't recognize the TARDIS at first. It's like she knows what a TARDIS is, but not The Doctor's TARDIS...
For everyone fighting over whether this is season 1, 14, or 40, allow me to not help at all:
Season 1 of Ncuti & Millie in the TARDIS.

That's what I'm seeing it as.

I'm kinda liking very new who, new who number two, and new new who.
Neo Who
I like that 15 has 1's sense of changing up his wardrobe depending on where he goes. Also nice to see Mel returning again. I like the idea of returning classic Who companions intermingling with modern Who.
Twelve also changed up his wardrobe quite a bit, in my opinion he was the most stylish Doctor of the new era (so far). I am glad they are bringing back some variety, Thirteen's outfit was soo boring.
Yes a Doctor who dresses for the eras he is in. Not since William Hartnell donned a toga or cowboy hat have we seen that.
I don't recall 1 changing his entire costume every adventure so no 1 didn't do this at all, 1 was actually consistent. Davies isn't. Don't try and act like this is the same as what some of the older docs did at all, sometimes they changed for the era, sometimes.
Bring back Grace from the TV movie please!
@@rkah6187 and that's the exact problem with people like you, need the outfits changed every second to satisfy your ADHD, you better not watch the first or the fifth doctors then or even the 9th, the doctor isn't sposed to be changing outfits every two fucking seconds, he picks a theme and he/she sticks to it, Jodie's doctor was consistent with the character, that's a good thing not a bad thing and she did change the colour of her t shirt actually. There's not enough of that in the modern show, this isn't a fucking fashion show, they pick their clothes at the start and then that should be it.

Isn't it always the grandparents that become absolute breakout characters?! Wilf is the prime example, but I have not met one person who did not think that Ryan's Nan Grace should have been a companion either. Cherry Sunday was an absolute marvel! I hope we get far more of her in the future!

Ncuti immediately won me over even from the 20 minutes of screen-time he had in the last episode, and Millie has done the same here, also proving to be a welcoming, dynamic and likeable presence, as does Ruby's family. The rapport between the Doctor and Ruby is clear from the off; I think the TARDIS is in safe hands with them two. As for the episode, I can't say I was majorly nuts about the musical number, but other than that, it was a solidly enjoyable maiden voyage for this era.
When he talked to the policeman I was like “this is the Doctor! Oh my god!”

I love Ncuti Gatwa's take on the Doctor. There's a genuine warmth and unconditional love for all humanity here... It's what's been missing for a long time. I've been a serious fan since the 70's and I've never been this excited about a new actor in this role. He's brought the fun back!
Did Jodie Whittaker fail to deliver on that? I can't seem to find her run on any streaming platform in my country.

Sorry, no, we're not restarting the numbering again just because Disney got involved. The show didn't get canceled and didn't stop again. It's Season/Series 14 of Doctor Who (2005), plain and simple. Not about to have to distinguish between Doctor Who (1963), Doctor Who (2005), and Doctor Who (2024).

Rose, Martha and Clara were romances, Donna had a sibling dynamic, the Ponds had parents with child dynamics, and Bill had a granddaughter/student dynamic... Ruby seems to have a daughter dynamic and I hope I'm right because we haven't seen that yet!

Okay so here's my little contribution to the Mrs. Flood theories: whoever knows the Doctor, knows that the TARDIS is a police box. She recognized the TARDIS only when it took off, not because of its camouflage. Does it mean that Mrs. Flood somehow knows about TARDIS technology, but not about the Doctor ?

I wasn’t completely sold on Ncuti with the anniversary specials but he absolutely knocked it out of the park in the latest episode! Literally incredible. Such a great balance of fun and emotion in his performance. He is well and truly the doctor.

Doctor and Ruby are both similar in that they are foundling who do not know where they came from. It enables Doctor to embrace more on who he is.
Ruby is the mystery woman who dropped herself off as a baby. Mrs Flood, the old woman, is also Ruby.

Ngl, as someone who wants to get into Doctor Who, the Season 1 label is exciting to me.
I know older fans of the classic series and the NuWho are kind of disappointed with the official label, but calling it Season 1 seems so inviting for new fans like me to jump into the series.

Im really looking forward to the new season. First, i get 12 playing guitar. Now I get 15 singing. I love it. People may not like it, but that's the doctor. Always surprising. Can't wait to see what they're up to this season

A lot of people are complaining about calling this Season 1, but honestly it's valid. The show hasn't had a shake-up this big since the revival, plus it's a good way to get new fans. If I open Disney Plus and see the show starts at "series 14" and nothing else is there, I'd not watch it.

I was so confused when Yasmin Finney said she would be sharing scenes with Ncuti Gatwa and then that didn't happen, but I thought she meant the 60th, now I see what she was really talking about! This does look pretty good and I can't wait until May comes, it might be six months away but at least it isn't thirteen months like the gap between TPOTD and the 60th! Oh, and is it just me, or does anyone else think Mrs. Flood could be a new, older incarnation of the Doctor's granddaughter Susan, which might explain why she knows about TARDISes!

Personally I feel like the Christmas special was like "what if we put the 3rd Doctor in a Douglas Adams 4th Doctor script" - it was absolutely brilliant, makes me want to try and rewatch all of Classic Who in time for the new Season 1! NO season is ever gonna the high ratings it previously had because that was when the number of channels were limited and the options of what to watch were too! the current and jodie ratings of doctor who are GOOD
So far I am absolutely loving this new iteration of The Doctor! Ncuti is already putting his own, very lively, stamp on the character, yet without losing any of the past. Bravo!

It's officially Season 01 and not Season 14.
Disney wanted to start fresh, and with the bigeneration RTD provided a good reason to relabel it. It’s not a big deal.
@@matthewhooper1508 I think people are annoyed because this is still the same continuous run of the show we've had since 2005, so changing the numbering partway through feels abrupt. Also, the Classic Era is already referred to as being in "seasons".

I absolutely adored The Church on Ruby Road and I am now beyond excited for Season One (series 14 if you still want to call it that). I think Ncuti Gatwa could rival my favourite Doctor Peter Capaldi, he’s just so electric and perfectly embodies The Doctor already

The goblin king was a wonderfuly understated bit of horror that im sure more then one kid is going to have nightmares about :)
Judging by this trailer, it looks like this next era will be the direction of the show I have dreamt of since I was a child. The Whoniverse is infinite.
So, it seems that by invoking a myth at the edge of reality the Dr accidentaly allowed ALL myths the potential to become truths, the goblin king was the first myth made real but not the last.
The goblins also showed us that while these myths can be real, they dont need to 100% follow our realities rules. Its going to take some quick thinking and imagination to get rid of some of these threats.
I bet the next myth is going to be the Beatles making good music

Same. I haven't watched 13's era since the first time, as none of her stories really pulled me in for a rewatch. Nothing on Jodie, the showrunner just misused her terribly, so we never got to see her actually *be* the Doctor. This time, though, I'm as excited as I was for Matt's and Capaldi's eras. Spring '24 can't come soon enough!

This new season looks incredible. It's a whole new adventure and the fact that we are finally getting the Beatles, fantastic. I know a lot of people are weary of this new season/doctor but everything/everyone deserves a chance.

Oooh, if The Beatkes are gonna be in this season, I might just have to check it out! They're not my favorite classic rock band (that honor goes to Styx, although their breakup makes The Beatles' breakup look tame in comparison), but they are a significant part of the history of rock. So it will be interesting to see how they will fit in with the Doctor Who franchise.
Based on the expended Media: The first doctor Was in a school Band in gallifrey and Played together with the master music inspired by the Beatles as a protest against the bureaucratic system of the timelord academy.

I was sceptical with the female Dr until I saw her acting abilities then I was like dam not bad, not even sceptical anymore I like how the new series connected to the old, so this would make it the longest running sci Fi TV show of all time 39 seasons and counting
I love that Doctor Who begins to lean heavily into musical motif (hence the jukebox in his Tardis) when it comes to Ncuti's 15th Doctor, making his era distinctive comparing to previous incarnations.

@@demaupin True but guitar playing just happens to be one of his interests that he adopts (and is quickly swept under the rug in series 10 just like his sonic sunglasses) and also, his era doesn't seem to embrace the 'musical' motif as much as Ncuti's.
I think the karaoke bar may be making a return for this Doctor, after 11 deleted it! I could absolutely see him doing that!
@@MrGlenbw I don't think we can really compare, and say one appears to embrace it more or less, given that we only have one ep and a trailer to go on in one case!
I will grant you that, even though series 10 began its first scene with it, Musician!12 was kind of dropped soon after, which was an odd inconsistency, since there were musical motifs in se 10 (the music in Eaters of Light, carols during the Christmas truce, the music on the phone + the violin in Knock Knock, etc.) and they're all kept sort of separate from him.
I don't agree, however, that it was just sort of a gimmick like the sonic sunglasses. Because it wasn't just the tank scene; the writing also showed him conceptualizing things through music (eg. using it to explain the bootstrap paradox, having the residual memory of Clara exist & be expressed in a melody, etc.,) which point to it being a way he processes the world.
It _is_ wildly inconsistent, and not done nearly as well as it could have been, yes. But I can only say that because I saw years of episodes. I have no idea how it will be handled in this upcoming era. None of us do.

This trailer gives me so much hope that we are finally past the dark, 'cinematic,' lens-flare, superhero movie style of cinematography that plagued Moffat's era. Let's go with a light, fresher, more fun Doctor Who again!!

@@HailEarendil Racists not liking the fact that the not-at-all-human Doctor can be black doesn't diminish Gatwa's charm one iota.
Past doctors, especially Tennant, have displayed intelligence, dexterity, and luck, but not all of them had charm. Tennant and Smith had it, but not as a defining characteristic. Eccleston, Capaldi, and Whittaker had little to none, and were always standoffish. I haven't watched enough of the original era to compare those doctors.

I've said this before and I'll say it again, Ncuti will be one of the best Doctors on the show's history imo. Can't wait for Season 1 (Series 14).

If i had a penny for every time the main villain was impaled by a spire, which stopped the rest of the monsters and saved the day, all in the new doctors' first episode, i would have two pennys, which isnt a lot, but its wierd that it happened twice.

Since we're talking about the season/series numbering, I'd actually quite like it if we dropped that and started naming and numbering them after the lead actor. So this would be Gatwa 1, followed by Gatwa 2, and so on. That way we avoid the debate and everyone knows what era we're talking about.
And then I guess we'd call it "McGann movie"?

Disney doesn’t have the rights to stream those series sadly so that is why Disney plus is making Doctor Who started from Season 1 again
Plus they don’t want to confuse new viewers from having to start from the first series to catch up
and Classic Who is on Tubi which is a free streaming Site completely legal but you have to deal with ads every 10-20 minutes or so

I'm looking forward to seeing the new enemies... I remember watching the very first trailer for Series 5 when it came out in January 2010 and my 11 year old self thought that it didn't look like Doctor Who... but I was so wrong. Even though Ncuti has only had 1 Episode so far he already feels like he has been here for ages 😀, I think it's where the show is going at the moment like folklore/ mythical elements to it like the Goblins and the new upcoming Boogeyman. Also I love the all powerful deities like The Celestial Toymaker... I also think it's how Russell has a masterplan AKA already filming the 2025 season and he has plans for the 2027 season already. As well as all the hype for the story arcs/ mysteries- "The Boss", "The One Who Waits", The Toymaker's Legions, Ruby's Mother, Susan Twist's character and Ms Flood's identity. I am loving it all. I hope the season says on Saturday 4th May so then we will only have 10 weeks to wait... I have a theory we also could be getting a new trailer sometime this week because this teaser trailer on Iplayer says its only available for 4 more days and that could mean it's going to get updated to the full trailer along with the last clip from "The Church on Ruby Road" being uploaded onto youtube, it would be a great time for another trailer, even a official release date if they are releasing it very early May as we are in March next week already, Either wait we have between 10 and 13 weeks until it airs.
Eurovision is on in may so they could either capitalise on the views of it and promote doctor who during breaks or play it before or after Eurovision
