I really appreciate this detailed review! This was one of my favorite Metroidvanias and I like how you've pointed out how unique this one is. I'll definitely pick up the physical as I have the PS5 version. I am confident with a few patches that can reach a sweet spot!
I'm picking this up for the Switch as I don't have the PS5 and may not plan on picking one up. Looks like the PS5 Pro is coming up this holiday season and the Switch 2 is coming out in March 2025, so can't wait to check out this game on the Switch 2.
As tempting as it is to have another metroidvania on the go, if someone happens to have a PS5 or any console more powerful than the Switch, I'd have to recommend those over Switch. The game's oozes style on everything else that it'd be a shame to not know what it was intended to look like. Here's to hoping ray tracing comes to the PS5 version. Digital Foundry made a video going over the ray tracing in the pc version, and this game shows that RT is more than just, "Oh look! You can see reflections in rain puddles!" At 10:08 of that video, the section with the caustic light was what peaked my interest.
Amazon just had the physical for $19.99 so I decided to snatch it up. Glad I did; it's a steelbook special edition with other extras. Have only put in about 30 minutes so far but I am definitely bought in, and the Midgar (FF7) influence on this world is a nice touch.
I've been actually anticipating this game since I first saw it on the eShop and I just got it today. I really like it although I do have to say I do notice a couple of stutters here and there but for me it's not game breaking by any means. While I do wish the loading times were a little bit shorter it's manageable. Overall though I'm really enjoying it and hopefully a patch comes out that will lower the loading times and fix the stutters but otherwise a very good game. I would also like to add that this might be one of those games that I will be checking out on my PS4 slim.
Just started playing the Switch port and I have to say the frame rate is quite low, but load times were tolerable. The biggest complaint I have is that the controls feel rather clunky, especially during combat. I'm coming to this game after playing Metroid Dread, Ender Lilies, Ori, and Hades so experiencing a game that isn't 60fps is quite jarring. The beat em up combo system seems fun though, so I'll give it a few more hours to see how this game turns out.
As someone who has never played this on other consoles, I thought the pixelation during the dialogue scenes were stylized. It's not really blocky pixelation. It looks almost like some kind of slightly blurry pencil sketch filter.
I'm super torn on this one. It seems like a game I'd enjoy, but the price point combined with the short-ish length and the issues that exist make me hesitant to click that buy button. Think I may wait for a sale on this one (and maybe a patch or two as well, if I'm lucky). Appreciate the review.
I feel the same, I think I’ll love it. But I’ll love it more when it’s on sale. For me the switch is a lower priced bite sized gaming system and I say that with only love.

This game looks great. I am seeing this trend where FPS seems to trump gameplay. I personally would rather have a solid game, and be less concerned about FPS. Because we can get some very smooth running, pretty visual pieces of crap! And honestly, for a long time we actually have. Visual aesthetics are nice, yet they aren't the be all end all of gaming. Gaming used to mean something, but it doesn't anymore. We wonder we we think games aren't as great, maybe its because neither are our standards. Everyone wants something that "visually" appeals to them. Yet, looks only go so far. Never sacrifice 80% of what you need to only get 20% of what you want. You will always end up unhappy.
The thing I have a problem with is the horrible delay in texture upload and flickering in texture. Also the low resolution in cut sceans. This game need a hot-fix 4 the switch, the footage from the Nintendo shop is not taken from actual switch port it does not look as good. Also fps is unstable. The game overall is good but feels UNFINISHED on the switch. 🙄
@@SwitchCorner i bought it on epic game store. It was discounted plus i had a coupon. Got it for $15 but had been holding out to see if I'd get it on switch. I'm still on the fence.

How did you felt about the Switch version in the end?
Definitely getting this one and normally I would most likely get it on PS5 , but I will be doing some traveling so I'm a bit torn which way to go.

We’ve seen around 30% off now on PlayStation and that’s around 9 months after release so that’s what I’d expect to see mirrored here

I mean the designs of the weapons and characters look good. The drab color pallet is meant to be dreary and dystopian.
I don’t mind the look, the hardware let’s it down though at times for sure. Some great locations in here though
