Most European languages belong to a very big group of languages called indo-european, which other than Indian and most European languages, also includes persian, tajik and dari (most commonly spoken language in Afghanistan). The biggest exceptions are that of Hungarian, Finnish, Estonian and many languages spoken around the arctic region of Europe, and belong to a completely unrelated language family called Uralic.
But there's one, still spoken European language, so distant from any other European language, that it is in a language family all on it's own. That language is called Basque, which is spoken in northern Spain with it spilling over a little in southern France. You would expect it to be a Latin-dirived language since it is surrounded by latin languages, but it isn't. A language that has no other close relatives, is called a language isolate, because only one language is in the group.
❤
Reminds me of the Ainu and their language
@@mr.nobody4529 what's interesting is that the ainu may have even come from the same geographic region indo European dialects started in they just left it way earlier.
who cares abt indo european💀💀💀
I have basque blood, though I'm from Sweden, and I have always had a nack for latin languages, and languages over all. But I took spanish in school. German is (relatively) easy to understand as a swede, swedish of course being a germanic language.🙂
"Poland is not yet lost" is, as far as I've heard, the rough English translation of the name of the Polish national anthem. When I asked a Polish friend about it, assuming the name to be depressing, she said it was actually from a time when Poland was not on the map so it was kind of a promise to return. Nice to see this in a countryball sketch.
The first line is also "Poland is not yet lost, until we (Poles) are alive" basically as long as there are at least two Poles, Poland (as an idea) will not die.
it was originally an army song for polish troops serving under napoleon
Poland flag is flipped upside down🇵🇱🇮🇩

Hákarl (rotten shark) isn't the only disgusting traditional food of Iceland, there is also Skata (a different kind of rotten fish) which is famous for its smell. I once saw a kid walk into a warehouse of the stuff and he ran out and puked on the sidewalk... very nice... Both foods are eaten in the Þorláksmessa holiday at the end of January
I wonder if they developped, during the famine period in iceland.
Why settle for fish when you can eat rotten fish?

The dutchland thing happened to me in belgium when i was litle, I was asked something in French, so i tried to talk to the boy who was saying something in Baguette to me, in my third grade english, but he didn´t apear to speak any english so I tried in German and said "Deutsch? Ich komme aus Deutschland.?" But then he said "Dutch?" and he began talking to me in Dutch which I didn´t know existed at that time but sounded vagualy german so i thought "hmm maybe it is a dialect" and tried to talked back in german but neither of us realy understand anithing.
Finaly someone is touching this delmma
When I was in the Netherlands, my dad wanted me to speak German to the Dutch to see if they would understand me
Turns out I immediately switched to English on autopilot
Here in Netherlands, if we meet a german we speak English to them. We understand the gist of things, but not enough for English to not still be more convenient
@@choonbox for me it sounds like a very strong german that I don't understand. No offence!
@@Dreaming_Cat404 Yep, I could see why. It's why its all the weirder to many outside of western Europe that we speak English to one another even though superficially they sound alike. 😊
I heard germans say it's half English and half German, makes sense geographically.

Since an "s" at the end of an English word makes it plural, I think we should call it anana if there is one and ananas if there is more than one.
Too similar to banana.
In French the "s" the end often means that it's the plural but we say ananas if there is one as well.

I feel like the US put itself in a no-win scenario with Vietnam, if we wanted to win why didn't we invade North Vietnam? Because we thought it would spark a larger conflict with China, who we helped gain power through open trade. If the US had invaded North Vietnam, then the conflict wouldn't have lasted 20 years, but instead every time the US fought back a Northern assault, instead of advancing, we just allowed them to recuperate, and reorganize. Maybe instead of just sitting there waiting for the North Vietnamese to attack again, we should have eliminated the source of the problem. Imagine if the allies tried to beat Germany in WW2, by just bombing them, and never invading to stop them from recovering. Well that what happened in Vietnam, sure the US bombed the North, but what did that do? We still gave them so much time to recover, I don't know what we expected, a bad outcome from a bad plan? Because that is what we got.
Maybe the political issue could have been avoided if it were officially the South Vietnamese army doing the invading, with the US just increasing funding a few months before the attack.
