You Took Your Prius WHERE?!!

- We got a call for a Prius trapped on the Grafton Mesa road on Gooseberry Mesa. The owner had been camping for 3 days, and when she went to leave got confused and went north instead of south. The road got progressively worse as it lost elevation, until she couldn't get back out.
After seeing the situation, I called for some planks to assist in getting the car over the large rocks without further damage. Lots of rock stacking ensued, as we waited for help to make the drive up. After the planks arrived, that made short work of the final few gnarly sections.
We were able to get her back to the smoother road without further damage to her Prius. It had taken quit a beating on the way in though.
Sometimes we make mistakes in life and go the wrong way. It's ok to take responsibility for our actions, admit we messed up, and ask for help to return to the right path!

I've had bad luck with Prius owners, I came across one stuck on the beach while doing another job. So I offered them a discount. They thought it was too expensive and passed, which was fine. But when I mentioned that the tide was coming in they took it as a threat and called the police 😡 . But thankfully the police just laughed when I told him what happened 😂. Anyway to cut a long story short the car got swamped by the tide and the beach patrol called us anyway. The $200 initial tow turned out to be a$1,900 recovery. But the best part was when they told the insurance company that I tried to rob them and they refused to pay it. The insurance company rejected their claim because they refused service and let the tide destroy the car 😂
Lol. Sounds like a Prius owner for sure
You have GOT to share THAT video :)
@The Bushwacker yes,the insurance paid it because they liable. Also for the record it was so much because the car was washed away and half burried when the tide went down. The other issue was that it became a hazmat problem and the State required a large amount of sand to be removed from the beach and disposed of.
I have video of it all but most of it is Axon body cam footage that we take for insurance purposes to cover our butts.
@The Bushwacker it is but it's a contracted rate with the city and it's usually pretty fair. But if I didn't have a skid steer and backhoe chances are I would've lost money on the job. But when you try to tell people what things cost and we still get called con artist and theives by idiots. I still get shit from people who feel$65 is too much for a basic tow. I love it when they call everyone else and then call me back when they realize it's not a bad price. But if they were douchebags before I usually raise it another $20 😂
This reminds me of my late Uncle's favorite story from being a Ford dealer for 60 years .... someone wanted to test drive a brand new 1966 Bronco .... and drove it into Lake Michigan - it stalled or got stuck. Now The Big Lake doesn't have tides, but the waves were building and by the time they towed it out the floor was awash with sand and the water was over the seats.

Im not sure this was the PLACE Toyota meant for the Prius when they said "Let's Go Places"
Maybe that phrase was meant for the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid instead of the Prius...
I think they meant "WE GO PLACES!" 🤦
@Curtis Fleabag True, but at least it has a bit more ground clearance and the LE trim has so-called "Electronic On-Demand All-Wheel Drive (AWD)". Personally I'd love to try the 1989 Subaru Leone SuperStation I had in the late '90s on that trail. That car could be easily lifted and lowered using a jack and common handtools.
It can go places, just never get out of them is all.

It was all up hill on the way out so I assume down hill all the way in. The only thing she needed the engine for was to push off the rocks when they grab the belly of the car. Would have been a piece of cake if you're not worried about damage or how to get back up.
Looks like the story is in the description... "We got a call for a Prius trapped on the Grafton Mesa road on Gooseberry Mesa. It's in the video. The Prius got there because she came from a different direction that was safe but when she got up in the morning she took a wrong turn going out & ended up where she couldn't get through or back. I'm sure you've already decided on your next build but it'd be extremely helpful in situations like this to have a flatbed rig that's almost as off road capable as the wrecker. You'd have to make it a roll-off rig though so that you can lower the flatbed down for the rescue vehicle to get on and then lift the bed back up when hauling it. Probably too extreme of a build to pull off though since it involves a lot of heavy-duty hydraulics to get right. Still would be cool, and guaranteed to be unique. :)
