I think you'd really enjoy their version of Gold.
Yes!
Exactly! It is never too late to discover something that we enjoy! Loved this reaction, and don't worry about going strictly by recommendations. Nothing they have done has yet to disappoint me so anything you choose from them is bound to be awesome! I always tell new people to Pentatonix...a kind of challenge...choose something from their playlist that is a song you never really liked and listen to their take on it to see if they can make you like the song!
Recommend their 'Popspring 2016' live performance. Believe it was in Japan, covered by MTV. There's 4 songs in it, 3 of which are Originals (Cracked, Can't Sleep Love, and Water) and also they do one of their 'Evolution of...' songs. fifteen minutes long but well worth it to check out! Water is one of my absolute favorites from it and it is primarily sung by Kirstie and you had mentioned her voice is like an angel - and if you think you've been Mitch Slapped yet - you are in for more...he has one of the uber high notes in this performance that will blow your socks off!
The Prayer is another PTX video that surprises a lot of people. Since the most famous version is Celine Dion with Andrea Bocelli, people expect to see Kirstie (rhymes with thirsty) as the lead singer, but the video is another Mitch surprise - and he does a fantastic job, hitting the same notes that Celine did without blinking an eye!
This is one of my favorite Pentatonix tunes.
Same!
Absolutely love the very end where they are themselves!
Thanks for a thoughtful reaction! I subscribed for your PTX reactions! Can't wait for more.
Same!❤
Awesome! Thank you!
It’s great that you are remembering their names. It’s greatly appreciated. Here’s how you pronounce a couple of them. The bass is Avi (AH-vee). Kirstin or Kirstie rhymes with thirsty. In one of their first videos, Starships, Kirstin says her name.
The base is Avi (short for Avriel) and the female is Kirsten or Kirstie. Beatboxer is Kevin, talk blonde is Scott and the lead on this is Mitch. Welcome aboard the Pentatonix train. It's a glorious ride
Lovin' it!
Subscribed - appreciating how well you've put your description of their interpretation into words, such as "platform" of percussion and bass
Thank you! :)
also, the song really has some meaning to them as a group "bigger than we ever dreamed..." Especially at the time that they recorded this sone.
You mentioned Sassy - my favourite 'sassy Mitch' moment is their cover of Megan Trainors song No. It's great. An early one with Avi and I believe it is a one take video. I alsi like that their videos are generally 'simple' in that there is not too much going on to distract from their incredible voices.
Love the sassiness! :)
Recommend their cover of Gold. You should listen to the original by Kiiara first if you are not familiar with it.
Blew that completely out of the water!
Thank you. Great comments and reaction. 🤗
Thanks so much! :)
Toddlertonix... They were fearless...!!!
WOW great Reaction -- Thanks so much for reacting to my favorite band!!
Thanks so much! :)
Great reaction! To experience their incredible versatility, check out Run To You, an original that's all harmonies, and then check out their Daft Punk medley, a techno-beat extravaganza that will blow you away. They won a Grammy for that one!
Must see their official: Hallelujah, Sound of Silence, Daft Punk, Amazing Grace, The Prayer.
Mitch's vocal range actually runs from low/mid tenor up to high soprano, He can reach notes only obtainable by Celion Dion and Whitney Houston, so yeah.
The correct name is Avi, not Ari, no offense taken you can't learn everyone immediatly.
The last line of this, they are shown wearing the actual clothes the wore when they first started out, and they sing "we are bigger than we ever dreamed" When you understand the clothes you understand the visuals.
I recommend you try The Prayer next to get an idea of Mitch's voice. THis is a cover of a Celine Dion and Andre Bouchelli song. Subbing for more PTX
Actually Mitch and Kirsten can reach the same top note (Kirsty Bflat7 Mitch B7), Kirsty has a real strong belting type voice, Mitch's voice however is real light and airy. That is the difference. It's what the song calls for, is it a heavy belted sound or a real light tone, that's how they decide who sings the high note.
One thing that people rarely notice is the costumes. For most of the song, they are all wearing fancy clothes and gold jewelry and they actually are Royals. However, for the last minute when they say, "we're bigger than we've ever been," you notice that they are all dressed in street clothes like they really can't believe how big they've gotten. If only they knew then how big they would become in the future, with three Grammys and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. I love this song. Great reaction and I have subscribed for more Pentatonix! Cheers from Utah!
Thank you, fellow Utahn! :)
Thank you so much for another PTX reaction! I'll be here for every one you do.
Thank you for being here!
If you’d like to hear Kirstin more she has done a medley of Disney love songs with the a cappella group Voctave. Really a great showcase for her voice.
always better to pick what you like; they do all genres of music.
One thing you will find is one member change after about six years. Avi - the basso profundo - wanted a less tour recording driven existence and wanted to focus on the folk elements he loves (and others, but his own choosing).
Anyway new bass is Matt, a lyrical bass. Cool thing is new songs play up his gorgeous tones and he still honors Avi in songs where Avi was much loved - like Cohen’s hallelujah . Still his own in other parts. He has a dark melty chocolate bass. Matt is often referred to as “the new bass” when he’s been there some 7 years.
Pentaholics love each member… oh, and they do all the songs live. I sometimes enjoy those more because Scott will go into soul ruffs that I love. Each has their individual music and one day you will watch Super fruit -Scott and Mitch with much fun (mitch doing Elphaba defying gravity) and heart wrenching songs (Rise, with guest singers).
Great info! Thank you so much :)
You're going down the rabbit hole... It's a one way street!
You might want to check out Kevin Olusola and his "crllo boxiny". From Harvard med school graduate, fluent in Mandarin, and has played Carnegie Hall teice (cello and sax).
That's another aspect of these talented people.
there are so many songs in their library...way too many to list...but i will give you 2 suggestions here....1st an original "the lucky ones" the 2nd song is "wizard of ahhhs" which is a montage of pop songs arranged to tell the classic story of the wizard of oz. thanks for your reactions.
I enjoyed your reaction. This is one of my favorite covers they've done. And the names most people have trouble with are Kirstin/Kirstie and Avi. So many say Kierstin (ponetically would be written keyerstin) Think Kirstin like Thurstin or Kirstie like thirsty, or like Kirstie Alley. If you listen to their cover of Nicki Minaj's 'Starships", Kirstie has a rap at the end that says 'My name is Kirstin but you can call me Kirstie'. It's been said in the past that Kirstie gets a little miffed at the mispronunciations. Avi sounds like Ahhvee.
Just subscribed for more Pentatonix. I'm a pentaholic.
Thank you!
They've said they won't do a cover unless they can bring something to it. Boy do they ever.
Absolutely!
I am seeing you for the first time. Your video was Tops . The singers Video was bigger than yours . I loved it . Diane
Thank you so much, Diane!
Mitch usuakky sings even higher than in this song. he has a amazing rangs of six ocvtave and suuuper clarity and control All of them sing have wide ranges in their voices. Welcome to the world of the [ENTAHOLICS
Great reaction! Subbed for more. Would love your interpretation of Can't Help Falling In Love! 5 part harmonies! 🩷
Thanks for subbing and your feedback! I've added your suggestion to my list :)
pentatonix just dropped a new cover "kiss from a rose"...although there is no video as of yet..it is a great cover...you should check it out
PTX doesn't do covers... They do upgrades!
So true!
THE SECOND eke ouch.
So if you like this song... For something fun, check out the version by Walk Off the Earth!
check out Pentatonix on the sing off season 3 - the Marvin Gay one like 9 or 10 in the show
You should also watch the legendary Episode 12, when they were assigned to sing Florence and the Machine's "Dog Days are Over." The general consensus is that the performance was what cemented their winning the competition, and it's easy to see why, because every single one of them left it all an the stage. "Dog Days" also contains the original "Mitch-slap," made all the more triumphant because for the whole season the producers had been forcing him into the background, insisting, for the first time ever that each group could only have one lead singer and that it had to be Scott, not allowing Mitch to use his upper register because it sounded "too gay" and therefore wasn't family friendly. PTX slipped Mitch's incredible solo in behind their backs and both the judges and audience were blown away.
I'd also recommend the version of "Aha" live at the Starlight Ballroom in Singapore a few years back. It's fan-recorded, so not the best quality, but I'm pretty sure every single Pentaholic hold that person in highest esteem. Ease into it, though, with some other videos first. I've literally seen unprepared reactors run around their homes screaming, because the performance is just that amazing.
Check out their cover of Imagine
They don't do covers. They do upgrades
I loved the original, but I truly think this one is better! There's more texture to PTX's cover (IMO)!!
I agree!
There are no gender specific parts in any Pentatonix performance.
At this time there kids.
grr arg.
I love how you think this is high for Mitch. Just wait till he trys to sing high.
