    The costume change at the end was to symbolize how they looked when they first started out and now they are "Bigger than they ever dreamed". Simply amazing

    Mitch’s sly look when he sings “and I’m in love with being queen” always makes me smile. Plus, his bee earrings!

    This was the kickoff to Pentatonix’s big blowout season. This video started to blow up with really good viewing numbers, then the Evolution of Music video really exploded, followed swiftly by the Daft Punk video, and those latter two competed to see which would hit 100 million views first. Then, to cap it off, December came, and “Little Drummer Boy” not only went viral online, but became their highest charting single to date, reaching #13 on Billboard’s Top 100 chart. To put things into perspective, as an acapella group, this was unprecedented. I think the highest YT video views for the genre before them would have been maybe a few million, and that would have taken years to accumulate. I know that Straight No Chaser had the highest charting album in the acapella world before 2013, hitting #29. That fall/winter, PTX Vol. 2 debuted at #10, and their deluxe edition of PTXmas hit #7.
    All of that led to RCA signing them the following spring to what Entertainment Weekly called “a lucrative contract.” Their agent said that he had been calling the studios for two years, ever since Sony dropped them in January 2012, never getting a response, but then they started calling him in January 2014.

    Many music-themed reactors (coaches, teachers, singers) have commented on how smoothly and seamlessly Mitch can switch between his chest and head voice. As one reactor put it (paraphrasing, as I don't remember the exact quote): "Mitch switches gears so cleanly and effortlessly that you really have a hard time telling whether he's switched to head, or is still in high chest voice." I think most of the times Mitch switches where it's as obvious as the one you pointed to is because he's doing that switch deliberately so you know exactly what he's doing.

    The ending is them singing about themselves and how their career took off.

    I absolutely love their ending to this one - like, "with all the fame, this is who we still are [my takeaway]". Chills.

    They won the third season of "The Sing Off", it's a great place to learn where they came from and how they work together to make a song their own...

    I don't understand how Kevin can be so persistent with making various sounds just the same each time. This is one of my favorites from PTX.

    Oh, I just loved your reaction! I appreciate the elements you spent time talking about - their harmonic blend and dynamics - because they excel at this. But I just loved your reaction to the bass drop. I felt exactly the same way. Thanks so much for reacting to this cover!

      If you watch Season 3 of The Sing Off performance 10 ( Lets Get It On) Avi does the bass guitar while looking like he's actually playing a bass guitar. 😂 These guys are mind boggling!

    • @PtxXtp
      @PtxXtp Před měsícem

      @@judithcure2255it’s true though. I think a lot of times it’s because they’re covering an individual artist so it’s one voice with just a simple melody line where ptx can add harmony and rhythms in so many spots and make the song feel that much richer and fuller in sound. I never liked this song by Lorde but once they did it, I found myself loving it. Which is the case for a lot of people who listen to their versions of songs.
