  • Ok, so all of this came from the comments on my previous video here:
    • One Gripe About These ...
Recap: I noticed some “interesting” behaviors from the smaller stereo pedals from Chase Bliss; Generation Loss Mkii, Mood Mkii, Reverse Mode C, Lossy depending on if the MISO dip switch was engaged or not. This was all based on a stereo input.
So I decided to jump into all these settings on the Mood Mkii and answer this question: What's the difference to your signal depending on whether you send a mono or stereo signal? Or whether or not you have the "MISO" and/or "Spread" DIP switches engaged? And how to all those differences sound on the "Wet" channel (Reverb, Delay, & Slip).
This video searches for the answers to those questions. So come with me and let's explore what's happening to our signal inside this wonderful little box!

Hello there, thank you for this deep dive and the exploration. I asked our engineer Tom about this and our support person, Dan, and this is how they've responded to these inquiries in the past:
"Delay mode in particular will mirror your input panning, then exaggerate this with Spread On. But, this means if your input signal is panned center, all of the delays will be center panned, and the ping-pong will bounce, but only between center and center. Hope that makes sense.
If you want the delays to be spread out, your input panning needs to be spread out as well. The reasoning for this is then the user gets to define how wide the spread is on the delays, but, if there isn't anything making your signal true stereo on the way into MOOD (ex you have a guitar that is plugged into a stereo pedal prior to MOOD, but that pedal is bypassed) your signal will technically be panned center and not trigger a wide delay.
The delay mode producing delays, and the other modes working and producing stereo fields as intended let's me know the pedal is working as it should. If this were a signal routing issue with the pedal, then all modes would be faulty, not just Delay mode.
We can verify delay is working as intended by using a Mono input and stereo output on MOOD. Be sure to turn on the MISO and Spread dipswitches for this.
You should get a pretty exaggerated ping-pong effect in this set up."
That said, if ever there is overwhelming feedback to change something we always consider it as we have the ability to do firmware updates. I haven't had a chance to watch this full video (was just alerted to it), so apologies if this is covered in your video but do you feel there is a consensus on what the behavior *should* be? I do think a potential firmware change could just sum the left and right channels going into the delay path which would imitate miso with a stereo path. You’d lose the stereo image of your incoming signal on the dsp side but that would be the trade off. -Joel

Heyo Joel! You know, it says a lot about you and your company that you joined the conversation here, and I want that known! Your team has been nothing but incredible any time I've had a question! Simply top notch!
This video was birthed from the conversation from the previous one where I was discussing how the way the circuit is (and I know nothing about circuitry!), MISO produces a different result with a stereo input in both the ON and OFF positions. With the MOOD Mkii specifically, you need MISO to be ON to get the ping-pong, but in doing so you lose the stereo image from a previous stereo pedal, but to preserve that incoming stereo image, you have to turn MISO to the OFF position, but you lose the ping pong.
I discovered this because I had been making some really rad sounds with the MOOD's Wet side on Delay (MISO ON as the input was mono) into the Lossy (MISO OFF). I then wanted to bring in some Reverse Mode C before the MOOD, so I switch the MISO on the MOOD to be OFF and that's when I noticed the ping pong disappear.
I wanted to show this difference in the video and ultimately let viewers know that with the ability to save DIP settings per preset, the MISO ON/OFF saga within a stereo chain is moot because you have the ability to change those settings via preset, and even easier with MIDI!
I don't think there has been an overwhelming feedback for a change on this yet. I for one am fine with the way it is now because I have the choice on how my stereo input is handled. I'm more than happy to keep this conversation going though to see if there is overwhelming feedback!
      Cheers!

one thing is absolutely clear... vongon polyphrase with the mood reverb sounds amazing together!

Yes they do! That Vongon blows me away every time I plug it in…but then again so does the MOOD! A sign that they’re meant to be together :)

Ping-pong usually only occurs when there’s a mono signal present and stereo out and that’s it. 🎉❤

Interesting experiment............. I've been having the same questions and concerns. I've talked to C.B., but I still felt I wasn't fully comprehending the stereo field aspects....

So, the conclusion in my opinion is that you can’t use it as a last pedal in the chain if you’re doing stereo before because then you will lose the stereo image that was presented before the mood MK2.

    • @thepedalcollaborative
      @thepedalcollaborative  Před 8 měsíci +3

You can. You just have to turn MISO and Spread off to fully preserve an incoming stereo signal. Keep in mind that the DIP switch settings are savable per preset so you’re not forced to keep the DIP switches a certain way all the time

DaMMiT iT MaN, I have had the MISO and Spread on since I have had it (with stereo going into it).... Grrrr......! Sir, Thank you VERY MUCH for this video and summary above.... I had wondered why my SL-20 Slicer seemed to have lost some of the reach in the stereo field/width, and now I know why - it feeds into the Mood2.... *click* and then *click*, and now it's fixed....! 😊
I am still kinda confused as to what the Spread dipswitch on, or off actuall does to the sound....

The SPREAD switch uses the MOOD’s various modes to create or change a stereo image (per the manual, pg 36 😊)
