Finally a manufacturer making the diesel available in EVERY trim level! Hear that GM and Ford?
Offered in every 1500 model.
Very nice.
Very nice, but a $5,000 premium is well above the competition for the diesel option
Tim O. Or just get the simple truck without Diesel and save 5 gs plus a lot of money down the road when the DPF fails
@@ThePegcitydude the pentastar is trash
Ford offers it on every model too. XL trim it has to be a fleet vehicle, but XLT and above the average consumer can buy it.
The Jackal Smith
It wasn’t always they must have change recently.
Ram is absolutely killing it with this 5th generation. Awesome trucks from exterior to interior.
Go buy an eco diesel and see how long you think that
toddrocks if I had $40K+ to afford one right now I would..well it’d be a tough choice between this and the hemi. Ram makes a great truck right now.
A truck killing it is not cause it looks good and has lots of buttons and gimmicks wait 5-10 years and then will see how good they are history repeats so I'm guessing its a turd like every other ram truck in the past trans problems rust problems electronic problems wait and see
@@andrewmendoza1578These are the exact people RAM is looking for to buy this abomination haha!!
mike T they’ve outsold Chevy to become the number 2 selling truck in North America, the powertrains are reliable, the technology is great, the power and capability is there and it does this all while looking great. How are they not killing it right now? Time will tell how the TECH not gimmicks will hold up on all the trucks coming out. Not just Ram. Go take that brand loyalty to a Chevy or Ford forum lol
Can’t wait to see the Chevy vs Ford Vs Ram 3.0L diesel show down with you guys.
They are all going suck. the ecodiesel were nothing but trouble. and all of them will have tons of issues with emission controls crap
Felix Chan lol I don’t plan to buy any I’m smarter than that I bought gas, but it’s still a cool showdown to watch 🤣
Felix Chan - you can’t live in the past. They know the previous shortcomings and won’t repeat the same mistakes twice. If you want to live that way and be objective, there are flaws I every truck. Since no truck is perfect, see ya walking on the side of the road.
I can't wait to see all the litigation and all the recalls pile on.
@@shitloveaduck I know all vehicles have flaws, it is just shocking to me how bad fca made those ecodiesels. I do not know a single chrysler tech that likes that engine, even the instructors for chrysler's training program doesn't like that engine. The ecodiesel were blowing up left right and center when they first came out. I ocassionaly a hemi will blow up too for no reason, but it is rare.
I can't wait to see them on the lot... Then I'll trade in my '17 for a '20. The wife will leave but I'll be happy.
A W same thing with me lol
Mine is leaving anyways, guess I'll trade in my 2008 3500, and get a new one lol.
Buy your wife one....
She'll never leave!!!
(I did, she freaking love's it)
Looks like a win win to me!
Wish I could just trade the wife for one instead of my jeep. Lol
Bought a red Limited one myself about 6 weeks ago. Towed a 10,000 lb fifth wheel
for 2000 of the first 3000 km I put on it. It sure loved it and is even
more peppy now and better fuel economy then when i first picked it up.
Got to love the new Ram is beautiful and the new Futures are sweet..
That white rebel with the ecodiesel is 🔥🔥🔥
Our 2015 eco-diesel is pretty efficient and powerful. If this is an improvement - wow.
This is where I always check the Truck Information, Thx! Fast lane Truck!
Thank you for watching!

Doesn't Andre know that one must put their cooler and the rest of the gear in the truck bed before loading up a trailer/boat? Lol
Another excellent review.
Finally Ram got designed very nice inside and out.
The 5.9 is the best diesel they ever put in a Ram.
True but all Cummins are great in Ram HD, some are just better than others. It's too bad the deal fell thru with Cummins supplying a light diesel for Ram 1500... a lot of folks don't know about that.
Way Different then this modern one but your right.
@@DeltaSierra426 know why it fell through?
@@bradster1200 Two reasons:
1) Nissan had the focus of Cummins for building a brand new diesel for half tons... either an exclusive contract at the time and/or more lucrative than what Ram wanted to fork up
2) FCA became a thing after Chrysler Corps's bankruptcy proceedings, so naturally Fiat wanted to use their own diesel
Remember that in 2013, the half-ton diesel market didn't exist, so a lot of uncertainty came with any investments into such. Other market macro pressures like increasing emissions regs in U.S. and a slow economic recovery didn't help.
It took Ford and GM almost five years to finally compete in this space, lol.
Hey Andre.
Another great video from you.
I’m am however curious if you could tell me if the new 2020 ecodiesel has the auto stop-start technology. I’m really hoping it doesn’t 🤞
I'm buying this truck! Amazing what trucks can do now a days.
Watched the vid - Excellent job Andre!! Read the comments top to bottom... some pleasant some not... At the end of the day, it would be outstanding to see a vid with the direct comparison to the 3 diesels that an average person would purchase. Not just the top of the line models to include pros and cons of the Belt vs Chain and locating them on the rear of the engines. Thanks!
When these guys do reviews, they are usually provided preproduction, fully loaded, top of the line with all of the options so that they can talk about, see, or discuss all of the features during their review, sometimes even configurations that wont be available once they go on sale.
Great video! Thanks guys. Can't wait for those MPG numbers!!
VM Motori designed this engine with vans and small trucks in mind, not strong, capable 1/2-ton American pick-up trucks like Ram 1500, hence no integrated exhaust brake. GM has a clean-sheet design (with specifically Silverado/Sierra 1500 in mind), so integrated it comes natural. Why Ford didn't do it? Not sure, lol. I'm guessing because the focus was fuel economy rather than max tow, as well as keeping price down? An exhaust brake adds weight, complexity, and cost, and generally in the 1/2-ton segment, a trailer brake controller is all that's needed to take care of downhill braking needs. If necessary, downshift these trucks until you get some decent natural engine breaking, i.e. 3-3.5K RPM in the light-duty diesels and 4-4.5K RPM in the big gassers. Pretty much all your modern gas engines have full fuel shut-off for no-throttle, decelerating conditions. It doesn't sound like, but don't let the engine sound fool you. ;)
I still remember when Dodge Ram 2500 in 2001 had the Cummins 5.9 in the 3/4 and 1 Tom trucks had an output of 240 HP and 460 torque. Now it’s half the size. 👍🏼
Absolutely! And we thought that was something! Technology is amazing.
Or like in 1993 when 140hp and 410lb frog torque was unheard of
@@bretttaylor9156 Or my previous '96 with the gas 488, 250hp & 450ftlb.

What’s the tow rating of the Rebel diesel 4wd with air suspension ??
With the chevys you told us what the fuel economy display was getting, when we get that info?? Tomorrow?? Lol great job as always!!!
Alex on Autos review mentioned that he was getting 35 mpg on highway. I doubt EPA will come back that high, but if it did, can you say cash cow? 😅😉🤙
@@Magilla480 with the chevy they got 32 if I'm right and the EPA rated it at 33. So if they are getting up to 35 it is possible... wait and see I guess
Ive watched a few other reviews of it, and mpg has been stated as 12-16 while towing, and mid to upper 20's, and low to mid 30's just driving around normal. Be willing to bet the 4wd version gets EPA rated at 30mpg.
What's the max towing for 4x4 crew cab?
Will the JL verdion have the same output? Love the video.
Do I need this kind of capability,,,, nope,,,,,, but it’s cool to know it’s out there and who knows I might pick the right Powerball numbers one day. The better the up model trucks get, hopefully it works down to us base truck buyers.
THIS RAM REBEL DIESEL WILL BE THE BEST OVERLAND RIG WITH AWESOME FUEL ECONOMY
Damian Overlander hol up its getting it?
Nice but 1200 pounds of payload is not enough for a truck rated to tow 12000 pounds. Not even close. If you have 1200 pounds of tongue weight on that truck just having a driver puts you over payload capacity.
Only the the tradesman is rated to tow over 12000lbs. This fully loaded limited would probably be around the 9000-10000lbs mark. This is the same with every manufacturer where the base model truck can hold and tow more.
Dam my new Tacoma has more payload capacity
James Wuertele that should be fine with less than half the Tow capacity!
1200 lb payload is pathetic! 4 adults and that 6,000 lb boat (with 600 lb hitch weight) would exceed the payload. Are they going to offer it with airbags and a higher payload?
@@itsallgood78735 Andre is driving one with airbags.
The tradesman version has much higher payload and towing. Limited is weighed down with all the bells and whistles and that huge crew cab.
Less than 1 minute in and I'm getting scared. Andre you remember what happened the last time you sped off in a truck while towing a trailer right? I'm sure that f150's driveshaft remembers.
I hate to say this Andre but do you think you should be break torquing a truck with a load? You've already showed that's a great way to break things. lol
logan holmberg That’s exactly what I thought! What a stupid & abusive bone head thing to do. And for what to show what? Next up fast moving reverse to drive with the boat hooked up? Ok the smart transmission wouldn’t allow it but you get the idea. Okay enough pick on Andre day otherwise a pretty good video.
The tech gadgetry is phenomenal and the truck looks great. But, I'll take the stripped Tradesman 4x4 with the diesel, no hyper technical stuff.. and a 6 inch aftermarket lift with Gateway Buckshots.
The Diesel trinity is now complete, can't wait for the shootout
Having an Ecodiesel in a 2020 RAM Rebel might be the TRUCK of the year combo!!
You got your wish! I'm planning on getting a used one once I get my electrical Journeyman license
Looks great
Does this new ram diesel ram engine match the duramax on mpg ? If so I say I’m going Ram just because of the interiors on these Laramie and limiteds. Great review tfl.
Available in every Ram model Yes !
Please,
We need special episode for RAM eTorque details.
So Andre, it's a new motor, unrated transmission and a larger stronger rear axle? Do you think the Gladiator Eco Diesel will also get a new transmission and maybe a Dana60 rear end?
Andre - way to represent Iron Range Off-Highway Vehicle State Recreation Area (Gilbert, MN). That unmistakable red dirt/water/mud is a tell-tale of wheeling at that place, even years later when you find red water on the ground after you wash your rig.
Any idea when we are going to be able to order one of these??!!
I've been after this truck/engine package combination. Solid work detailing it.
Do you know if the Gladiator will have the same numbers? Or will they de-tune it for the smaller chassis?
Very nice looking truck!
What was the towing capacity of the ecodiesel limited you tested?
Andre: Take a listen
Truck: NOT MAKING ANY NOISE
like if you hate quiet diesels.
I hate to derail the discussion of trucks, but what tune do you use starting at 0:19 of the video? It's one of the better stock tunes I hear you guys use and was wondering what it's called.
I wonder if the Gladiator is getting the same engine with the same output?
What is the tow cap of the fully loaded Rebel EcoDiesel with air suspension? I imagine less than the 12,500 on the big horn due to the off road specs and loftier suspension?
Not a dodge fan !! But damm look at the interiors superb
@Mr Sunshines who gives a shit
Mr Sunshines they used to be partner companies so people usually refer to them as dodges.
Mr Sunshines no there is. They used to say on them Dodge Ram when they were together.
@Mr Sunshines dodge and ram never started as two separate companies. Ram was litterly dodges truck name back in the 80s to 2011. Before that that were just called dodge W series or D series. Until dodge trucks like the Ram 50, 1500, 2500, 3500. You may be confusing dodge and Chrysler.
@Mr Sunshines While he's brushing up on his history, do us all a favor and take an English course.
Please test on the Super Ike maxed out in trailer capacity. It would be nice to compare this new Eco-Diesel with the last one you tested. If I remember correctly it had one of the slowest times ever. I purchased a new 2016 and I'm surprised they raised the towing numbers. Mine does not pull my 5,000 lb boat up Sandstone Mountain in West Virginia very easily. This is the mountain you all tested with Ford I believe in WV several years ago.
I'm surprised that you don't cross your safety chains where they connect to the hitch. It is better to cross them, so that if the trailer does become disconnected, the chains will form a "basket" for the front of the trailer. Just a good safety idea 💡.
Nice but did they work out all the 1st generation reliability issues?
That seam in the tailgate is an eyesore. Reminiscent of the crack line defect that older Ford Explorers had in their rears.
It's an option. They still come standard with the regular tailgate. Get the one that you like
Nice the diesel is available in non high end trim models.
You know anything about the 2021 Chevy El Camino
That white one is for me! Good looking truck.
For my retirement, and my future needs, fishing, camping, hiking, 1500 Crew Cab 5’7” box, Split tailgate and RamBox with a hard tonneau cover and I’m set! I just need the SXT with the off-road package, not the Rebel.
Da Gooch if u do so much outdoors stuff why wouldn’t u get the bigger bed? The extra foot really helps with space and i think it looks like a real truck with an actual bed lol
Personal opinions. I agree with the double cab and longer bed looking better but, I live in Canada. For 2019 you cannot order the 6.5 foot bed and double cab with the RamBox in Canada. Often is the case in Canada that we cannot get as many versions as the USA. Our market is too small. If I was not set on the RamBox, I would get the double cab. I agree, they look better. Maybe 2020 will be different!?!?
I didn’t even try to spec crew cab and the 6.4 ft box. Too long overall.
Stay safe out there, Eh!
The real question is did they end up putting the surround view camera system on the rebels for 2020?
The 2020 diesel Rebel we drove did not have a 360-degree camera.
Is this with or without an emission cheat in the ECU?
Even if the mpg doesn't beat Chevy, it still can tow more n has more power, the mpg is gonna be way better then any gas v8 so it hopefully should be a win for ram, I have a 18 ecodiesel 4x4 with mt tires and I get 25mpg on the highway easy. Way better than my wife's 5.3 Chevy with mts at 18 highway
Yes but does the engine heat up in the winter
Will it pass emissions?
Really hope they fix the ecodiesel. Thanks to all the guinea pig for testing this out. :)
Joyroc in had a ‘16 eco diesel laramie and it was the worst truck I’ve ever had!
Joyroc my 17 has been really good so far
Is this a good truck for the everyday driver, who only tows every once in a while? Just concerned about the extra fuel and maintenance cost.
That's a nice looking Truck
Brother in-law has one, he loved it until it through a rod, have to say that Ram put a new motor in it and gave him the vip warranty witch covers everything under the sun
under standard warranty? friend of mine drove over his crank just after warranty expired because the trans downshifted for no particular reason. He got no help with the repair cost
Why is no one talking about the issue the original 3.0 eco diesels suffered? I’m referring to the cam issue. Has this been remedied?
What axel ratio do Eco diesel buyers run. The stock 3.21. Or optional 3.92???
Awesome trucks, now just put the engine in the wranglers and gladiator, and have the option for that split tailgate and 12inch screen
ok so I am confused.... they are keeping the old engine in production for the classic, when they know it is having problems? or is it going to get the new diesel but in the older truck?
Jackson Lewis: I haven’t heard of any issues with the 2nd Gen ecodiesel. Gen 1 had some challenges (never buy 1st gen of anything - IMO)
What model is the white ram ? 1500 rebel ? Hope it comes to Australia
Where was this testing at?!?! Must be very close to the iron range!
Go back to the cooling style you had in 05, with the radiator on the left side with nothing in front of it and put the transmission cooler, power steering cooler, and ac condenser on the right side.
What is the towing number on the 4x4?
First zomglololol 😅 can't wait for this engine in the new gladiator
Italian made diesel in a Jeep, blasphemy. 🤨
@@mendivil71
Yeah, cause no American auto manufacturer has ever used a foreign engine or components in their vehicles. *Sarcasm* I'm looking at you Ford and GM. And I almost forgot about Harley Davidson. Lol
They are keeping the classic???? Did they have that many spare parts left?
No, just that many customers wanting the old truck at a great price.
It's for poor people. Actually they just do it to balance production output because of parts suppliers etc... for the new truck.
really? you dont think they just have a wharehouse full of those lemon motors? i think i'll plant a lemon tree, its cheaper
I got to check out the price of the diesel optioned trucks and wow was I surprised. On average there was a $15000.00 dollar price premium between similar equipped 1500 quad cab 4x2 pickups. At that price it wont tow or go off-road with me behind the wheel. New 2020 Ram 1500 Big Horn $58,383 diesel, New 2020 Ram 1500 Limited $74,008 diesel. New 2020 Ram 1500 Big Horn $43,158 Hemi, New 2020 Ram 1500 Limited $65,773 Hemi.
I found a 2020 Grand Cherokee Trailhawk 3.6L for $43,140 dollars. The dealerships may kill this engine with these prices, you can buy a 2500 with 6.7L for those prices.
I can't help but cringe when you said that under 1300 lbs payload is good for a fully loaded half ton. Ram has stepped WAY up in its game and they have a whole lot to be proud of, but their payload continues to be a joke. Before getting a 1-Ton, I had '17 Silverado 1500 fully loaded 4x4, 6.2L, sunroof, and everything else that kills payload and it could still carry a gnats ass shy of 1800 according to the VIN plate. Ram is making an incredible product, but they have got to get their payload numbers up.
they are called a 1/2 ton for a reason i can load 2000 pounds in my 1982 F150 that doesn't mean i should you run into breaking issues and other things
@@Friedrich-Wilhelm-1980 They are commonly called "half ton's" because of historic reasons. It has Zero to do with current capabilities. I am not talking about an "it'll fit" rating either, I'm talking about a door jam sticker rating. the simple fact is, for all they are doing right, Ram is way behind when it comes to payload. Go walk the dealerships and you will see first hand that Ram is class losing in payload capacity.
@@wgreenjr81 well when you buy a 1/2 pickup payload is WAY down on most people's list towing capacity is what people are looking for if you need more payload you need more truck
and you also need to understand FTA regulates the maximum total vehicle weight to a set amount depending on vehicle class
the diesel engine weighs more you are going to lose payload there is no way around it
obviously the ram is heavier
Most crew cab truck buyers these days would be better served with a Camry. They don't haul, they don't tow...they just make the morning commute to the office. The manufacturers build soft suspensions to be nice and cushy. I agree, it's a sad situation for sure. Payload numbers are often quite a bit higher on lower-trim trucks...the ones bought by people who actually work for a living.
@@NukePooch1 i feel a base model in 2019 is more than anyone needs
i mean if you buy a base model truck with 4WD
you are going to have a more luxurious truck than say an XLT from 1990
because nowadays A/C, airbags, tachometer, dc player and radio were all extra options back them
now its kinda standard
but personally i just dont think trucks should be treated like a minivan
When are you comparing the zr2 to the ranger raptor.
Is the new cooling layout only for the 3.0 in the 2020 1500?
Chad Outdoors: Yes
@@BiggMo thanks
So Dodge won't speculate fuel mileage yet. But you guys tested and drove it enough to know. So what was the mpg's ?

Any problems with gen3
The Ram has a low slung cack. Lol 9:43
grandpa5x Pulliam Yup just having fun
Something me and the Ram have in common.
What about the Nissan Titan with the Cummins? Isn’t it a half ton truck? So that would compete with this truck as a half ton diesel 4x4.
Also, the titan with the Cummins is known as the titan XD, and Nissan labels it as a 1/2 ton plus, or as I like calling it, 5/8 ton.
Because of the Titan XDs heft, stiff suspension ride, turning radius, etc oh and poor for a diesel fuel economy most people compare it to a 3/4 ton truck. It’s just more comparable to the 3/4 tons and even with a tune would never sniff 30 mpg.
It’s a pos so wouldn’t consider it
Lets hope this Diesel has a Reliability Factor to it !! For $7000 + Option in Canada it better last !! Will this Diesel be available in the Jeep Line Up ?
That split tailgate while cool and all that. Worries me in the strength of it. Loading a 800 pound bike in the bed would the tailgate take it or fold along that split. That would suck. And if it takes it right now how about 10 years from now?
Well sin e most tailgates are rated for 500lbs anyways I would advise against loading an 800lb bike on it anyways lol
Why don't the 2020 ram rebel has a front and rear lock?
How about comparing the 6 cylinder diesels from Ford, GM and Ram to the Nissan Cummins 5.0L in its 1/2 ton? Good to see a strong diesel in a 1/2 ton!

I see some of those trucks have both the RAM box and the split tailgate. According to the online configurator, that isn't possible, though. What gives?
Sometimes that's because of availability when there's a new model or option. If you're really interested in that combination though, I'd recommend just visiting a dealer and ordering one there. You may have to wait a while, but I'm sure they can accommodate you.
That's because you went on 2019 configurator they just put up the 2020 configurator
Can you drive these new diesels in Mexico with their fuel or do you have to run our ultra low sulfur diesel?

Thanks!
I would love to see the engine in a power wagon or light 2500 HD pickup marketed towards people who need fuel mileage. I agree, the engine should have a exhaust brake on it! Waiting on fuel mileage numbers!
Scott W I’m sorry but that makes no sense. A light hd truck? So a 1500, also you want a smaller diesel in a heavier truck for fuel economy?
Erik Hoffman for a contractor who has to carry equipment in his truck that is heavier than what the 1500 should handle and has to drive a distance for work. I carry a light load of mowers every day, and travel a lot of mileage going from customer to customer. At the end of the year I look at my fuel bill and am always amazed on how much I spend on fuel. If I had a diesel truck that got high teens, low 20’s MPG that is almost double the fuel mileage I get saving me 50% in cost that I can put back into the business. The newest diesels don’t get the fuel mileage that the older ones use to!
Waylon Miller deleting my truck is not a option in the people’s republic of Massachusetts! We are inspected here yearly and have to pass a DOT inspection because I am over 10,000 lbs GVW. Moving is not a option due to being surrounded by states that are as bad or worse and my business is established. I just think a smaller diesel would be a cool idea and solve problems.
Waylon Miller titan will no longer offer the V8 5.0 Cummins in the Nissan. I think the 3.0 with a HD transmission would be something that fills in a gap that is needed!
Wish we have this in PH..
Wonder how diesels will sell on Jan 1 2020 when diesel prices will skyrocket due to Ships requiring low sulfur diesel.
So the diesel option should begin to pay back somewhere around 150,000 miles?
Jeff X when it’s time for transmission #3, and the 2nd engine!
