  • This was my first attempt at an exposed full-tang knife handle and it was also my first time using inset pins. There were a couple hiccups in regards to order of operations but luckily nothing I couldn't work out. In the end I think it turned out great and I learned a lot of lessons. Tell me what you think in the comments!

      I didn't always have a lot of tools but I've always made nice knives. That's how I paid for the nice tools.

    Fantastic looking knife - top notch! A good trick for keeping the backside of the liners clear of epoxy is before you cut out your liner material, lay some blue tape on the "clear side" (you can get really wide rolls of blue tape, or just multiple strips of standard 2" edge to edge). Then you can just peel the tape off when your epoxy has cured.

    Nice knife, but I think you'll find that the ridge of the tang protruding from the handle like that makes the grip incredibly uncomfortable for any real use.
    I've handled a few knives with a similar partially exposed tang like that and they're horrible to hold and use.
    I'd suggest grinding it smooth with the rest of the handle. Your hands will thank you later on.

    Very nice attention to detail. Professional(caring) approach. A couple of questions/comments. Is that Zircote wood that you used for the handle scales? And do you make knives from customers designs, with your input of course? I have a bit of a design for a large recurve “Bowie” that I really would like to see built. Lastly, where are you from? I live in Lac du Bonnet, Manitoba. I’m going to subscribe!

    • @helmwoodshopandsmithy3582
      @helmwoodshopandsmithy3582  Před 2 lety

      Lots of questions lol. It is cocobolo wood for the scales, I would make a knife a customer designed if I thought it was a reasonably good design and I live in the Dallas, TX area.
