- It's not the smallest car ever but possibly the one with the least amount of room inside. James brought this lovely little car for me to drive and it was certainly an experience.

I didn't realise while out on that drive just how much you were smiling. Thanks for that was a good laugh.
I really enjoyed driving it, James Thank you 😊
Many owners drive the Midget with the top off. Then it is easier to drop in rather than post yourself through the small doors. Once in, it is like wearing a glove.
As it is a convertible car, it would have been good to do a review with the top down, because it is a different car with the roof off.
Once I put a roof on my Frogeye Sprite I had to learn a different set of contortions to get in and out! I heartily concur with your comments that driving this kind of car is an "occasion" and there always seems to be some audience participation with waves and smiles coming from pedestrians and other drivers. Thanks for sharing this drive with us.
Great story and credit to the young fella for carrying on his granddad's project, he's made it a lovely example.
You quite suit the posh image too , but I see you more as an XJS or TR6 man, shirt unbuttoned and an ashtray sized gold medallion 😂
He's a fine young man. I would definitely like to dress smarter for future test drives
@@ProjectNigel maybe dress accordingly for the car you're in?
When I had a few old XJ Jags, I always put on some smart clobber, a few gold rings and smoked a slim panatella.
In my FIAT 127 Sport usually a Sergio Tacchini polo shirt.
S-class Mercs called for fatter cigars , light blue shirt and a dour unsmiling Germanic look on my face 😂
Awesome little car , Great to see how much you enjoyed driving it. Would be too small for me, my MX5 is the smallest I would want impressed Paul. Really love James kept the car he worked on with his Grandad very Special.
It's a proper driving experience 😊
once moved a sofa with one if them, a little bit sketchy but them days were slacker and it was only a little sofa.
😅😅
If you have a race one with a full roll cage, they’re great for transporting 8’x4’ sheets of ply etc!
@@emmajacobs5575must look like an outlaw sprint car.
I have a 1969 Sprite and am 6 foot and fit rather nicely. Can't stop smiling and laughing every time i drive it. The waves, folks taking pics and positive acknowledgement of the car only make it better.
Had one 35 years ago bought it from my 6 foot tall friend
Im 5 years into ownership of my second MG Midget and still can't get in and out of mine with any dignity lol. Well worth it when you're in it though!
Boaty needs to squeeze in this 🤣
No chance! 😅
I love this format for the reviews - more input from the owner, more interesting and varied route and a new suave Mustard! Excellent video.
😊😊
I see you got dressed up for occasion Paul, beautiful little car and is a credit to the young man.
Thank you 🙂
You looked very suave in your shirt and jeans, possibly attire from Midgets era? A super test drive and video. Peace brother.
Thank you very much
My freind had a MG migit until he rolled it. He was a large man. Looks lovely little car😊😊
I wouldn't like to roll one of these 😳
MG Little person
Yes 😁
It was great to see your grin while driving this 🙂
Thanks. Be even more of a grin with a K-series lump 😄
@@ProjectNigel yeah, I really must get things sorted out on that side of things
Dwarf Roadster. MG Mustard 👀🚗. Boaty could NEVER fit into that.... his Moobs(😆😆)would get in the way😆!
I'd love to see him try 😆
beautiful car😊
😊
Excellent video. I'd be tempted to simply remove the seats and put a pillow on the floor
It would still be difficult to get into though 😄
@@ProjectNigel I'm a commenter, not an engineer 😛
Back in the sixties and seventies, evolution of man had diverged. In the United States, genus fatblobman was emerging who need chrome plated cars the size of whales, V8 engines to move them and softly suspended by thousands of elastic bands. In Europe, genus MontyPyhonman would appear, accompanied by small engined cars which largely dispensed with the need for springs or brakes. These would be fun to drive but frequently broke down leading to the hilarious antics of drivers administering a 'good thrashing' with nearby tree branches.
Eventually rust caused the decline of both genera and homo-Rylan emerged. In today's video, Mustard acknowledges homo-Rylan by wearing his posh hotel wedding guest shirt while trying to fit in to the charming old diminutive flat-cap era sports car. In many ways an epexegesis of the way the car design has changed to meet the human condition.
In summary, what a brilliant car! 😀 (not so sure about the shirt! 😆)
Genus Montypythonman? That's rather excellent! A dying breed now though
I'm afraid so, literally literally!
Lovely little car, one of my favourites. You getting into though, Paul, hahaha. Like a giraffe on ice skates. Priceless. Regards, D.
Trendy shirt, proud of you
Thanks 😄
I really enjoyed the review on it i had Mazda eunos it was a nice car just not practical. The good thing with them is the little engine power to weight.
It is the light weight that makes them so good 😊
Fabulous - even the extremecloseupdrivingfootage. Nice that you dressed up for the occasion though.
Thank you, more Mustard shirts for tert drives! 😁
What an amazing car! Love it!
Me too 😊
Bit of help for exiting a Midget from a old driver and owner: Use your opposite hand. From the UK driver's seat, it's easier to reach it with your left hand than your right. Having the top up (or hardtop in this case) makes it harder to get in and out, and the owner is an ideal size and age to get in and out!
I'd feel safer with the head rests on - I've been in more accidents where my car has been rear-ended than I have any other kind. And a loud horn is a safety feature in a tiny car!
Curious where he sourced his Toyota gearbox? Mine has a Datsun 5 speed, and I'm always curious about where I may want to get a second if mine fails.
Excellent video mustard when you got in and out of the car it did made me laugh it is a lovely car 🚘🚙🚗⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️👍👍👍👍👍👍🍺
Yeah it was as awkward as it looked 😄
Midgets are more “worn” than “driven”!
When I owned my Midget Mk3 in 1977 I used my left arm and hand to open the drivers door. It's easy if you use your brain.
Hi guys, we used to call them the roller skate cause your arse was scraping off the ground lol 😝
That sounds about right 😁
Nigel you got in and out of that Sprite like I do with my brothers Spitfire and getting the seatbelts buckled is the next challenge.❤❤❤
Deliberately kept the hard top on to make it even harder getting in and out. Previous Austin Healey sprite owner and miss it so much.😢
Made in my home town back in the day and my local pub was named the magic midget after the car amazing cars you can feel every everything not like todays boring comfort 😂
You really enjoyed that, Paul. Would have been easier for you with the hard top off. Beautiful car.
Interesting how your face changed from a look of concern to a big grin in short order.
Jeff capes in a midget ❤
Ive had two of these and Ive driven four. Drove one across the southern USA on honeymoon. They are utterly brilliant. And Im six foot tall. Id love another one but they are EXPENSIVE now. So I have 2 TR7s instead lol.
What a beauty!
Indeed it is
Nice car 👌
Which MG loon gave the RHD car LHD wipers??
I have been in a couple and a frogeye don't remember them feeling so small.
I had one back in the day. Yes you are right it is cramped. Sat in it the steering wheel is offset and so are the pedals. Even me at my 5-9 and (at the time) slim build. I would get out of it looking like Quosimodo. It's an A35 with a sports body poorly grafted on.
At 6'1" I am probably the maximum size for this car 😄
@@ProjectNigel I'm 6'6" and I've had mine for nearly 40 years. If you love them you learn how to fit 🙂
fun cars. it's easier with a smaller steering wheel. the wheel is absurdly big.
👍
🙂
Cute the overriders look wrong. Full bumper or nothing.
The front ones on this car are Frogeye Sprite rears - and they are upside down! - However, if the owner likes it that way, good for him. 🙂
SHIRT!😮
I'm guessing it's a '72?
Your using the wrong hand to open the door. It’s designed to be opened by the inside hand, and reach round your body it’s much easier and natural.
Yes that makes sense
1960 Austin Healey Sprite. M.
Fifth gear? Does it have a Ford type 9 gearbox? Popular mod because these things were very undergeared.
Only undergeared for motorways. In its natural habitat of twisty country lanes you're meant to be revving like fun. We all used Ford boxes until the supply ran out (they used to be £50 a pop from scrapyards). People use Datsun, Toyota, Mazda ones now. All good.
Left leg first then bend right knee ,if that doesnt work you should either lose weight or buy an MGB 😂😂😂😂
MGB? - Never! Lardy old things 🙂
not taxi rear lights old fruity- taxi had mk2 austin/morris 11/1300
😅 thanks
While this car is unique I would not want to drive a car that small with no roll bar , that can flip over , that low where it can pinned under or pinned over another larger vehicle . Otherwise it looks like fun for a country drive in very light traffic on a sunny day .
My mechanic’s creeper rides higher!
🤣
Beautiful car James, do you have one for my other foot? 🛼🛼😂
