Believe or not the Cayenne has been around for 17 years. I've always been a fan. Today I'm in a 2007 3.6 V6 to see what they're like.
I'd be grateful if you could give the video a thumbs up and don't forget to subscribe if you're new to the channel!

"The SatNav still lists Winchester as the capital of England..." LOL!!
Doug F - 😂
Great line
@Fredd Gregg
Winchester was the capital of England when Manchester was the size of bus shelter.
“You don’t see Renault doing that do you, if they did they would have to have a key with a lift up bonnet” haha brilliant!
Haha I couldn't resist
Made me laugh out loud literally. 😂👌🏻
@@HighPeakAutos But Renault do make keys like their cars. Cheap, boring, plasticy and uninspiring!
Renault is not a premium brand. . . I saw a brand new Cayenne here in Bucharest today that was in a kind of matte sparkling clementine color. Absolutely exquisite!

Greetings from Spain (in COVID19 lockdown) and filling my afternoons and evenings with CZcams car videos and this new release pops into my notifications list - beautiful.
Stay safe everyone. All the best wherever you are.
Take care over there. All the best
You take it easy, keep safe yourself
take care my friend we have just had our holiday cancelled to uour country, blasted covid 19
My partner and I had booked on the Queen Elizabeth to NZ for 11 days departing 1st April. $Aus 1380 each for a balcony. Never get that offer again. Obviously not going as Australia is in lockdown. Qantas announced it was grounding most of its fleet today. Tough times ahead for the world. Good luck to you all.
Stay safe. X
Another great trip and "straight up" review Matt.
Cheers
Mike
I bought a 2010 facelift V6 about 2 years ago with 70-80k miles have 103k miles now. Ive had to replace the breaks, battery, and oil changes. That’s it. It has been very reliable and when it’s paid off I’ll keep it and get a newer one. Love these cars.
I remember my auntie had one of these and the maintenance was a lil higher than my X5 2005 but handled much better and efficiently than x5, great exhaust note out of v6 and if opted it has better off road capabilities than Many suvs
So happy you reviewed this as I have been heavily considering one
Theyre great cars for the money
Good job I watched this, was going to get the non turbo v8, many thanks! Keep up the superb inside knowledge vids it’s just what is lot need 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Having driven it back in the day, I would recommend the first GTS model. It has an incredibly rev-y and responsive version of that NA V8 under the bonnet, and the one I drove sealed the deal by coming with a manual transmission.
"If they did, they would have to make a key with a lift up bonnet", now that was funny lol
Another great, no BS video Matt.
Seen a lot of Cayenne videos this is one of the best, trying to find a good one is the difficult part been looking for over a year for just the right one, thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching
That Renault line had me in stitches... Another great vid Matt, keep up the good work :)
Haha cheers! :)
I have a 2006 3.6 facelift in Spain...driven regularly at a brisk pace with the Porsche club I trust it to do exactly what its told to do...just like a younger brother. On narrow mountain roads it leads the pack as its four on the floor..well ahead of more accomplished drivers in their 911.
An absolutely fabulous vehicle that costs circa €1000 a year to run.
The door controls are weak and do creak and break occasionally...the tiptronic buttons on the steering wheel can snooze a little...go manual on the stick and its fantastic in all weathers...my favourite friend feels very safe in the passenger seat at any pace...this is a good thing as I've promised never ever to send flowers to her parents with a deeply apologetic note.
A truly wonderful vehicle 🤗
As with all vehicles designed to be LHD...go with LHD....RHD is much less direct and the pedals are in the wrong place...just sayin'..also a pinking noise on the engine at height above sea level don't worry...it could be bore wear but drop some V Power in and it should go away.
Porsche design their engines for sea level...if not then maybe I hope you have a big wallet...🙃
Great review, great cars! I've had my 2005 V6 model for 4 and a half years. Its done 150k miles now and is worth about three grand! I'm itching to change cars as I've had it so long, but I cannot find anything that I'd rather have in its place. Your comment on the seats is so accurate, I find them incredibally comfortable. The newer Cayenne (2010+) looks nicer and has a nicer interior, but the seats aren't as nice and lumbar support is optional on the later models too. I think I'll probably keep it until it dies, although my specialist has said that the V6 are so reliable if well maintained that probably never will! :)
I’m glad you like this old heap despite of it’s age. I’ve just recently swapped RR 2007 3.6diesel for Cayenne 2011 4.8S. I do miss now RR but on other hand love Cayenne cornering etc.
You made the right decision. RR are chav af.
Was waiting for this review for so long
I have an 06 3.2. They are a great machine and fantastic value for money. Thanks for the video.
Hi, Im buying a 2014 3.0 diesal model. What advice could you give me? It seems as though most people have negatives to say. I usually average just about 8k miles
Really enjoy the videos and pleased that you are starting to say the price. Drove one of the 1st gen 4.5 v8 but whipped out due to a concern over the fuel cost
great review as always,i particularly like the non auto anecdotes..i like your commentaries on all reviews...
Glad you like them!
As the years have gone by I'm warming to these. Seen two of the original ones in one day, quite an imposing sight and better looking than the vast number Freelanders that roam Devons roads.
Great review as always Matt ,a lad in my village has a 08 spec same as this one ,he's had it 9 years and never had any problems ,has it serviced by local garage he loves it .
Thanks for watching.
I’m really impressed with your delivery of the reviews. I get bored of cars easily and get a different used car every 6 months, and your reviews are always my go to point for reference.
My next purchase is a Maserati Ghibli 3.0 D 2014 plate, I’m hoping at some point you get chance to review this car before I buy it! Thanks again
Thanks for watching. Thats what I've always done and kind of how I got into buying and selling cars. I'm intrigued about the Maserati - I've never owned one though
High Peak Autos Hi mate, just a follow up to my previous message, I bought my first 66 plate highest spec Maserati with 40k miles for £19k today 🥳. What an amazing car for the money, yes the repair costs will likely result in me living in the car, but my god is it worth it! Highly recommend 🤣. Stay safe!
England's Last Patriot Thats some car for the money! A new focus would set you back that kind of money
As always very entertaining, thank you please keep them coming we all need your sharp wit in these trying times,
All the best from Gilbert Arizona
Kurt Goar.
Thanks for watching. All the best
Fantastic review , such an awesome car , I love it especially the v8’s, loud and lairy just like my mum
Love your honest reviews, visited your business website, love the M5
Thanks!
This is the best way to review the cayenne. I just got the turbo 09 model, grey fully loaded with only 65miles and honestly it cant get any better i love this car
Thanks!
Just makes a change to have an honest, no loud music based, sat on the rear seat, boot inspection review. He's hit the nail on the head with his low key, straight opinions. Well done.....
Thanks for watching!
So informative Matt and you say it how it is, thank you keep up the great work..
Thanks for watching!
2:08 I like that steering wheel! Looks pretty cool
I've always quite liked these!
Me too
Rick good review - Quick Hoover - Sanitize the steering wheel - Get it Sold !!
Thanks for another great video
Thanks for watching!
Highly recommend my 2007 4.8 litre Turbo, now with 140.000 kms, living in Switzerland and France. Has made selling the E~type and XJS bearable. No maintenance issues at all. It was the only car with a tall enough back to fit our two Borzoi dogs standing up. All the later SUV models, range rovers, etc, had this slope at the back.
If anyone is driving down the Atlantic Coast and needs an experienced Porsche mechanic, I can recommend my local indy garage near the Bay of Arcachon.
Brilliant as usual mate!!
"as well spec'd as a cave"... chocked on my morning Tea hahahahahah well done again fell... keep em coming. thanks for all your efforts.
Haha thanks!
I've got to say I'm not a huge fan of these earlier ones, 2010 year onwards is when they started to look good, to my eyes that is. Great vid as usual though Matt.
I have always liked that generation Cayenne (unlike the two that followed). The reason for this might also have been the fact that I was a kid when this came out and Porsche had placed it in the James Bond Game: Everything or Nothing. It was a dark red Cayenne Turbo and I kinda fell in love with it back then!
That was such a good game!! I still have it in my GameCube
@@malteserwfj Oh you're lucky! My PS2 gave up on me long time ago
Cracking review Matt, glad you got round to doing one of these fine motors!
I’m loving mine and I’m genuinely and pleasantly surprised at how comfortable it is to waft around in. I’d put it on a par with my old Jag XFS (although the air suspension helps a bit here too).
Thanks for watching. Theyre great cars
Never realised it was 17 years old, a lot of car with a top name. Keep um coming ,always good stuff.
Thanks for watching
You’re uploading so much more regularly now :) keep it up if you can
I will do :)
Definitely going to get one of these! High spec is the way to go with them and they look value for money.
I agree
Love that you do lots of SuVs!
I like them. I'm not a fan of the smaller crossover SUV's though
Great review as always... be great to see a review of the second gen at some point, £20k can land a decent one 👍
Thats right. Theyre even cheaper than that now
I can remember the rave reviews on cayenne by the motor magazines when it was launched in 2003-4,it was seen as a Suv version of 911! and that helped it's value a lot,but as of now it has diversified to a big extent, good to know it has held up quite well even after 17 years, but it is said have some niggles, like wiring ,thermostat and coolant leaks, but I think they r docile.
Great review. i wanted to buy a cheap cayenne but after i spoke with a bunch of cayenne owners, every single one didnt encourage me to buy one. all of them dumped it after a few years and pretty much all of them purchased a japanese used suv. they all claimed cayennes have tons of problems on the long run and a friend of mine spent 5k in 5 years just for yearly maintenance. but anything you buy less than 15k im pretty sure you can afford its costs and live with them. great review with accurate stats btw. thank you for reviewing cars everyone can afford
Thanks for watching :)
I always love to see your clips, you always to the point!
Can you do one on q7 audi please
Great video as always. What are your thoughts on the Mk2 version of that ermmm car?
Great cars. I did an in depth tour on my dads old 2003 4.5. It was a very reliable car, and never went wrong once.
First video I watched of yours because I was thinking to buy one. Your video made me buy mine which is the same as this. 2007 3.6 v6 but my spec is what you describe as a “cave” 😂. Since then I’ve binge watched a few of your videos and your such an amazing content creator and I’ve learned a lot from watching your videos! Look forward to more projects, just watched the Lexus LS430 and that car was one of my fav from childhood. Amazing car!
Thanks for watching. Great cars aren’t they. How’s yours been?
@@HighPeakAutos I’ve had it for about 4 months and it’s been good tbf! Needed couple tyres, alloys refurbing, good service, the typical Propshaft centre bearing and it’s throwing the EML for a fuel high pressure sensor which I’ve changed but the code still pops up and then goes away then back again, kind of annoying I suspect may be a vacuum hose leak somewhere so will go back for a check soon but other than it drives so well and for such a big heavy car they handle so so well! Thank you for the reply says a lot about your character getting back to a comment like mine. Respect for you has risen more mate 👍🏼
Had a used 62 plate diesel car which had a high specification with full Porsche service history. Good fuel economy for a big 4x4 and it was good fun to drive, very comfortable too. At 42K miles the gasket between engine and gearbox failed and it was going to be around £2K for the repair at a specialist assuming they didn’t find anything else. The technician told me it was a reasonably common fault so worth checking if you are thinking about buying one.
If I had the bread, I'd buy that in a heartbeat, lovely motor.
Nice motor - I'd rather drive a tidy 2nd hand exec motor than a new middle of the road yawn mobile. Great Vid.
Me Too. I agree
I know you have to make sure you’re financially secure for the future, but if that involves driving a Toyota Corolla or Citroen C3 then I’m out.
Me too ,just think about the build quality of some of these prestige cars when they were new. All 50k plus when new circa 10 grand for a good well maintained 10 year old model. Buy right (spend £100 on an independent check) you should be enjoying a car that will see you out till 2035 doomsday!!!!
@@guvna6520 the new Toyota Corolla is not bad new one is a good looking car
Always had one of these on my mind long as it was a facelift one
I have the 08s and I can say you really really want the S and you really really want PASM. If you ever get the chance, I can't urge you to do a comparison enough. Thanks for the detailed synopsis :-)
Great vid, bit of a gem that one. :)
Thanks!
Beautiful car & gorgeous man....agree with you totally on the cayenne
Great vid, was thinking about one of these trading in my old ML. Was wary about costs of repairs that's all.
Thanks. From my experience, these are no more costly to maintain than an old ML
OMG...another enthusiasm...however I have one in Spain...fabulous, remarkably inexpensive to run. Great video.
Which model do you have?
found out my real passion is Motorcycles or even better ride them :)...but anyhow it is always fun to watch your videos
Thanks so much for sharing
I have an 09 Cayenne S. V8 has lots of power but gets 15mpg. Thankfully, it has a 26.4 gallon tank. No squeeks or rattles and the interior looks brand new. I have the air suspension, it makes the ride a lot better. Plus, you raise and lower the car from 11 inches down to 6. I highly recommend it, especially with gas prices falling.
This comment aged like fine milk :D
Black on black looks great. This shares some basic hardware with the VW Touareg. I think the Cayenne was always stylish.
Oh my god its Brilliant! i went from a 2004 XC90 to 957 Turbo. Night and day!
Chalk and cheese
Great review !! Used to have a VW Touareg, not so dissimilar!!
Awesome video thank you
Thanks
I have a 2010 Cayenne S. It has the 4.8L v8. It's brilliant. Lots of fun to drive and plenty of room for people and hauling stuff. I took out the Cats and it sounds mean.
The V8's sound great
Having a big car like this might come in handy when the apocalypse is in full swing.
You want something like a landcruiser for an apocalypse, easy to work on and reliable like tanks
Great review with good tech knowledge. Good buy if you do low miles. Just a shame part prices if main dealer only are mega expensive. You know your Porsche's Matt.
Thanks! I am a bit of geek with this kind of thing haha
Great car, really good review, excellent value for money. Regards, RichardA
Thanks for watching
My favourite review so far, but I'm planning to buy a Cayenne...
Owning a bodyshop here in Spain sometimes gives me the oportunity of checking out some nice cars like this. We had 2 Cayennes last year (pre-facelift S model with the 4.5 v8) and I was allowed to drive one of them. What a car, they feel so solid, robust and well built. Never understood the hate on them
I agree - theyre great. Hows it going in Spain at the moment?
@@HighPeakAutos thanks for asking, the situation is quite hard here. We've been on quarantine since the last Saturday and looks like we have a whole month ahead of us. We can only get out of home to do basic groceries, to the pharmacy, hospital, workplace and a few things more. Any other thing and police will fine (600€). Luckily I live on a small town and the virus is still not here. Please guys take care and do the things properly, not like us and Italy
@@angelcantero7320 That sucks. Where in Spain are you located?
@@HighPeakAutos Yes it really sucks. I'm on a small town of Ciudad Real province, its called Socuéllamos. There are still no cases of coronavirus here so it feels safe. But in bigger cities like Madrid and Valencia is more serious and even the army has been deployed
Hate because they look as though they are some kind of amphibian.
Nice 1 brother
Great vid as usual . Still not sure about the looks of the cayenne although the quality shines through especially the wear at 17 years old.
22-26 mpg is becoming more manageable as fuel prices drop which is a bonus
I agree, but you should never count on that in this country!
I had a 2005 turbo...with most extras cost was €129.000..bought second hand in early 2008 for €65.000. Fantastic in every single respect and the detractors are either jealous or have never driven one.
I tried the Range Rover Sport but, the interior is 'boxy' in comparison and the passenger is uncomfortably far from the driver..has as bus feel to it
i absolutely love my Cayenne. I enjoy driving it. The steering is fantastic. And i love the heated steering wheel! yasssss
Tecia Green Theyre great cars. I love a heated steering wheel. Such a nice feature
I like the look of this car, the steering wheel looks ugly af though.
I hope you become as successful as Doug De Muro, you deserve to, loved the Winchester and Renault quips
Doug De Muro? Really...can't think why he would be classed as "successful" .
Tried watching him a couple of times: Awful, simply awful.
De Muro’s reviews are way tooooo long, I like reviews to the point and educative (and done by Matt preferably 😊).
I have this exact vehicle just 08, I love it ❤
Great way of putting it - a new Yaris or the facelift Cayenne... your call...!
Bought a 08 cayenne S 4.8 V8 last month.. best car ive ever owned. Performance is incredible.
Theyre great aren't they
The trouble with Top Gear and The Grand Tour (erm....formerly Top Gear but now on Amazon) is that they've become totally different to what the original format was, and that was to show us the new cars, second hand ones, and road test them and gives us the heads up of what they're like, and for us to dream on with the more expensive stuff. Of course, it hasn't got to be all too serious, and a few laughs keeps us all entertained (like Matt does btw) but most of it has become like a gloriously over the top 'It's a Knockout Top Gear' with OTT tests of each other and daring do's, and well, I don't know! It is funny in parts don't get me wrong, but we're all petrol heads here wanting to know what cars are like not to watch The Three Stooges Go To Bangkok, it's old hat now.
The turbo models are mental. I remember getting into the traffic lights grand prix with one and getting blown into the weeds, when I was in a new Golf GTi. It was liking watching Nicholas Soames run the 100m in 9.5 seconds.
I agree. I love the Turbo
Just picked up an immaculate 2008 V6 with 66,000 miles on it. White black interior. Looks brand new. Even smells brand new. Crazy how a 14 year old car can stoll smell new 😮
I would opt for the VW Touareg 3.0 V6 version of the Porsche Cayenne. Bulletproof engine and saves you a ton on dealer maintenance.
Not the fastest cars, but then you should choose a 911 or M5
Great video as always Matt 👍🏼 while you are correct about the bore score / worn piston rings issues of the MK1 Cayenne 4.5 V8s it’s mainly the 2003 & 2004 cars that suffer the most. Porsche quietly addressed the issue for the 2005 & 2006 model year cars before face lifting the whole Cayenne range in 2007 and going with the new line up of engines 👍🏼 My 2006 M.Y. Cayenne S 4.5 V8 that I’ve owned for the past 4 years is now on 140k genuine miles (still running on the original engine) without any issues at all.👍🏼
Thanks for watching. I didn't realise that, thanks :)
I was totally aware of this problem and spent a lot of time researching this issue before buying my one.
I obviously wanted the Turbo model but couldn’t stomach average of 15 MPG or lower the way I drive 🙈🤣 18-22 MPG isn’t great but a lot more palatable 😬 The VW derived 250 bhp 3.2 V6 is just plain gutless in the 2.25 tone Cayenne and only just about OK in the MK5 Golf R32 that it ended up in.
@@MattCSLnut yes the 2.0 vw engines are better than the v6s
@ 6lr6ak6 ... the 2.0T VAG engines are a lot more flexible and respond well to mapping & modding but IMHO have less character than the V6 which sounds superb in the MK5 Golf R32 despite being stuck @ 250 BHP. Apart from the Cayenne S V8 I also have a 2018 MK 7.5 Golf R DSG with the EA888 Gen.3 2.0 Turbo with 310 bhp... quite talented engine that responds well to re mapping but unfortunately like most 4 cylinder engines it sounds some what characterless.
This Cayenne looks really good for something that came out in 2007. It's still pretty even though it's 15 years old now
Matt, you are getting really good at these reviews. I don't mean to sound patronising when I say 'well done', but you really do a cracking review..
Thank you. I appreciate the feedback :)
Fantastic review again.
Please review the vw touareg
Second that proposal
I couldn't see what people saw in these when they came out but as prices fell and then the facelift came out they suddenly appeared on my radar and I will get one of these in the coming months. They are now such good vfm and how can you object to that badge? Its a YES from me.
Good stuff! Which model?
@@HighPeakAutos that one in your vid - you sold it to me. I dont need a V8 and certainly dont need a Turbo so the V6 will be the one.
Great content as always.. Keep it coming!
The SatNav still has Winchester as the capital of England 😂
Never fail to impress me.
Haha thanks
My mate bought a brand new Cayenne Turbo back in 2007 thinking it would be his last car as he's always been unwell but he's still got it and it still looks good when he bothers to clean it.
I love the turbo model
nice review mate , i keep considering one of these , but unsure on taking the chance on buying one ,I hear scares of replace gearbox prices , new clutches, scared of the headache when they go wrong , I know they look great and that are reliable. Should i chance it ?
here we go...now I am buying a Cayen lift model 🥳 👍
Great videos. Will you be reviewing a 2010 onwards vw touareg? Cheers
Cayenne is an exellent car no dout about it ,plus its luxurious inside
"About as well-spec'd as a cave." Classic.
Really great reviews, pal. Keep it up. Would love to see reviews of Saabs. pre GM ideally:). 👍
Thanks! I love Saabs. I'll try and get some for the channel soon
We had 2010 Ng 9-5 TDI auto for 8 months.
Fantastic car, huge inside, very comfy and with a cheeky ECU tweek fast enough to out of its own way.
We sold it when Saab went belly up and parts and finding somebody with the tec3 diagnostic equipment (leased from Saab ) was a nightmare.
What a beast, still looks cool. Renault don't make keys that look like their cars - if they did they'd have to make one with a lift-up bonnet. ;-)
If you ever go on stage, send me a ticket. Some of your one-liners are brilliant.
Haha cheers
Had a few of these, great value for money, well built and reliable. I’d only have a v8, turbo or na both good
Yeah I'd go for the Turbo personally
mate, you are still sitting on the wrong side of the car, but you do know your stuff - you have earned yourself a new subscriber sir :D
Haha thanks for subscribing!
