Robert Z’Dar had a rare medical condition called cherubism, that's why his jaw was so enormous.Because of this and his big physique he was mostly cast in villain or henchmen roles. He's the main henchman in Amir Shervan's other ''masterpiece'' Samurai Cop,was the bad guy in Tango & Cash, who tries to kill Stallone & Kurt Russell in jail and of course the titular ''Maniac Cop''.He appeared in over 100 movies and tv-shows in his career and was actually a super friendly guy,who frequently appeared at conventions and hung out with fans. Before going into movies he had a pretty illustrous career. He played college football, was a police officer in Chicago, played in a funk band and was even a Chippendales dancer! Sadly,he passed away in 2015, from a cardiac arrest R.I.P.
I was wondering why this guy's face was never brought up in the review. I thought it was plastic surgery. Really bad plastic surgery. Really, really, bad plastic surgery. Thanks for the info.
Lol......nope Robert’s jaw was very real. You should’ve seen it in person.....it was hard not to stare. I got to see him at a convention back in 2006. He seemed nice enough, unfortunately though I didn’t go up and talk to him. I think I got a little star struck.....or maybe it was that friggin jaw lol. Anyways, RIP MR. Z’Dar.
That's crazy--they have Jim Brown in this movie. And not even as the star, apparently. One of the most decorated football players of all-time and a guy who has been in some huge movies, like the classic Dirty Dozen and somehow the guy who directed Samurai Cop was able to score him for a film.
Heidi Stink replies to comments help to. It shows viewers are invested enough in the content to interact with each other. It’s why major sports channels, en masse, have turned to bringing on guests with contrarian views, or have co-hosts that are the embodiment of trolls(Skip Bayless, Jason Whitlock, etc..)
Robert Z'Dar was also in Maniac Cop 1-3. His jawline is a result of Cherubism. Cherubism is a rare genetic disorder that causes prominence in the lower portion in the face. The name is derived from the temporary chubby-cheeked resemblance to putti, often confused with cherubs, in Renaissance paintings. I liked a lot of his movies, sad that he never got his own block buster. He was an excellent villain in many movies.
The guy playing the head policeman is played by Jim Brown, one of the greatest NFL players of all time. I have no idea what on earth he is doing in this movie. This would be like Magic Johnson showing up in the next Neil Breen movie
Rushnerd, I totally read "Your taste in titties". Which I'm sure wouldn't be an INaccurate statement. Just HOW you knew that would be the question, lol.
The title "Killing American Style" is, one assumes, a reference to the 1970s television comedy series "Love American Style" whose title was itself a reference to the popular 1960s films "Marriage Italian Style" and "Divorce Italian Style". You're welcome.
i came back from work and mark give me this gem "is weak spot anywhere that not is jaw." that make me laugh. i love this man. time to play this on loop
It's a treat to witness how Mark has gotten better and better at this over the years: entertaining, informative, unpretentious and effortlessly hilarious. I was first introduced to Robert Z'Dar in his signature role of "Maniac Cop" (which to this day I consider to be trash of the highest order) and enjoyed many of his movies back in the 80's and early 90' (with the help of a kid brother who rented every bad movie that showed up at the video store, lol). By all accounts a great guy who turned what would seem a major disadvantage into a successful action movie career. Thanks for remembering him once again and for another laugh-out-loud review.
Never met Robert Z'Dar, but I've always been a fan. Everybody that worked with him said he was really friendly and a great guy. If you haven't seen Dragonfight, I recommend it for a review!
I was waiting for today to post since I have his birthday in my calendar. Happy Birthday Robert Z'Dar. Your life lives on in the movies and in our hearts.
I was under the impression that "Killing Canadian Style" involved bludgeoning an opponent with hockey sticks and sniping them with the pucks, followed by a polite "Sorry" before moving on to the next target.
I need to watch the whole movie, but it looks like it earns "It's so bad that it's good" status. The fight with the bellhop in the motel room was impressive with the mid-air sweep that could have resulted in a broken arm or hip along with some bruises from those cowboy boot heels. Luscious watermelon!
Anther great video critique ! Robert Zadarsky, better known to fans of cinema as Robert Z'Dar was afflicted with cherubism, a medical condition resulting in the enlargement of the lower part of the face and jaw line. He died in 2015 of heart failure according to google. I didn't know he was MANIAC COP ! Rest in peace. This host really likes movies if he remembers killing American Style ! thumbs up . thanks for sharing.
jimmyray18 Neil just released, I believe, a 5 movie combo a little while ago. If you go into Mark’s twitter, you can see his response to Neil about how’s he’s distributing them.
z'Dar had a condition called "Cherubism" that causes excessive bone growth. The x-rays online will give you shivers. Robert z'Dar really shines in "Maniac Cop," which is actually a good weird movie.
So glad to see another video. Fanboy flicks has become my favorite review site with Mark being the best reviewer going today. To me, he mixes the information and humor in his reviews better than anyone. I hope the videos keep coming.

Check him out in Soultaker and Samurai Cop. The guys from MST3K described him as a catcher's mitt with eyes. I hear he' was a good guy though.

Marks always getting better at this youtube thing. His observations, timing, bits, all awesome.
