Usually when the "competitor" gives good advice it means there's plenty to go around.
He’s a genuine guy, and he’s my first call when we are too booked to do a job. We send each other business. That’s how it should be in my opinion
That’s a helpful video keep them coming
I run 2 Mack quad axles in Phoenix. Simple 16 is definitely the way to go plan on adding a 3rd drop axle on mine.
That’s awesome! How do you like the Mack’s?
This was great to hear and watch. I'm looking to run my first dump truck in UT by next spring... Would love to see more videos on how you manage scaling to multiple trucks, cash-flow managment (paying drivers, fuel, net 30-45's etc). Also, I started a FB group for multi-truck (dump truck) owners in hopes of getting this knowledge out there to others like me!
I’ll keep that in mind for the next video. Thanks for watching. My advice, when you think you have enough capital to get you started, double it. Trucks are expensive haha
This is the first time seeing your channel. This was a really well done CZcams video. The video shots were great and interesting and your narration was excellent. Congrats on the new truck and business and I wish you well in getting started in your new venture.
Thanks for the input! It’s much appreciated!
You are very candid. I appreciate your time in making these videos.
Thanks for watching. It’s fun to make them, but it sure is time consuming haha
@@baremetalfab I can only imagine!! especially the quality of them. I Appreciate your time and effort.
Good for you! You do a great job spreading! Tight chains and slow 👍🏻.
That’s the way we like to do it, more control!
Great video! Looking forward to the next! Interestingly enough I'm a poultry farmer building up my welding and metal fabrication equipment as a side hustle but have become incredibly interested in buying my first dump truck.
I like them man. Let me know what you’d like to see! Thanks for the comment it helps alot
@@baremetalfab maintenance, equipment walk around, the business side of it, finding work for your trucks. Your videos are really well done! Do you have a CZcams Chanel for your fabrication business? Again, looking forward to your next video.
Yes this is that channel. The fab side of it is alittle more time consuming to make videos for, but will have one in the next few days. And I’ll do those vids and get them up!
I’m 45 minutes out of Phoenix and been to the Vanguard Mack dealer on 19th ave. I’m toying with the idea of getting a Mack dump truck. Thanks for the video and information
Working on getting a walk around video posted soon. They have been good trucks. Greg is my sales guy. Good dude. Knows his stuff
Easy listen, good info and you sound intelligent which is refreshing. Glad I found you. I just got my CDL and am making a major career change in a few months. So I'm trying to learn the trucking industry, dump specifically. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for the comment, and the compliment! Let me know what questions you have and I’ll see if I can answer them
@@baremetalfab I appreciate that, I will as they come up!
@@theclerk6444you got an update on how you’ve been doing?
Same here just got my class a 2 months ago just added an endorsement about to add one more
God bless Michael. His info made it all the way to me! Thank you
He’s a great guy.
educate yourself: Learn the basics of investing and the stock market. There are many resources available online , including books, articles, and online courses. It’s a good idea to diversify your portfolio across different stocks and sectors to minimize risk. I’ve heard of people accruing over $550k during recessions and inflation, its important to do your own research
Remember that investing in the stock market carries risks, and it’s important to do your own research and consult with a financial advisor before making any investment decisions.
Very true. With the help of an investment advisor, I was able to diversify my $550K portfolio across multiple markets, and in just a few months, I was able to earn over $950K in net profit from high dividend yielding stocks, ETFs, and bonds.
Could you kindly leave your investment advisor's contact information here? I absolutely must have one.
please help me with your advisor.
My Financial adviser is ‘’Marie Slopiey Donner’’ she’s highly qualified and experienced in the financial market. she has extensive knowledge of portfolio diversity and is considered an expert in the field. I recommend researching his credentials further. she has many years of experience and is a valuable resource for anyone looking to navigate the financial market
Dope video! Love the editing. Predominantly drive a Mack. Prefer them over anything else.
I like them. Parts is kind of a pain in the butt, but from what I hear it doesn’t matter the make lol
Great video brother! How do you decide how much to charge per hour when you’re doing a job? And what is the typical hourly rate? I’m here in California we run semi trucks but I have been trying to learn as much information as I can about dump trucks to possibly get into that field
There is a standard rate, and it fluctuates depending on fuel costs. Where I’m at we’re currently running 120/hour. I determine this by breaking down all my costs and adding markup, but also I know a lot of the other dump truck guys, we all talk and keep competitive pricing with eachother. You can also call your local pits or asphalt companies and ask what they typically pay for a 16 per hour.
Good Stuff Thank You!!
Thanks for watching!
Awesome video brother! Thank you for sharing!
If you don’t mind me asking what all did the start up cost you after you bought your dump trucks? Just like getting your dot numbers and authority and what not? I’m trying to become an O/O and trying to figure out what things I need to get her up and going! I appreciate you man and have a Merry Christmas!
Dot and operating authority shouldn’t cost you much if anything. If you use a 3rd party company that’s when they take ur money! Insurance and registration are the big ones. Insurance on my first truck was just shy of 5k for the year and registration about the same
@@baremetalfab that's a lot, but being a new carrier is why you're insurance is so much I'm sure. My insurance for full coverage on a truck and dump trailer combined is $320 per month. My registration depending on in state only is $530 per year if you go IRP it's $2400 per year and a trailer license is either $20 per year or $100 for a non expiring lifetime license.
@@clydeacor1911 yea, new carrier but also my first truck is a 2022. And my insurance covers more than standard road insurance, it’s also got business insurance tacked on to it. But I do expect it to gradually come down. Thanks for the comment!
Thank you
Dump trucks is my plan b option, and I always was concerned about rainy days to find work....
We budget for 3-4 months off in the winters
Just subbed brother! 👍

@@baremetalfab u bet 👍
Great story man! I want to get into excavation but I have no experience in the field. I’m kind of a trial by fire type of guy as it seems you are yourself. Currently debating if I want to go work for someone for a little while or just get started ASAP.
Most important thing is having the business sense. I’m by no means an expert, but a lot of guys go get 100+k in debt then have no business plan and no idea how to get business. It definitely helps to have some knowledge of your field prior to starting your own company. But I think well over half of it has nothing to do with the actual work.
Can’t tell you how many times I’ve gotten “CZcams certified” lol. Thanks for the comment!
Great video! What type of camera do you have installed on the back end of that dump?
Truck 2 has an aftermarket back up camera for backing to a trailer. I honestly don’t know what brand it is. Came on the truck when I bought it. Haven’t ever used it! Lol
@@baremetalfab thank you! Never even knew they made such cameras for trucks 😂🤯
Any new videos on your dump truck business coming? Even as basic as how you have evolved your business. Subscribed.
I’ve been wanting to, just haven’t made the time. I appreciate the support. I’ll see if I can get one done soon. Thanks!
Hi there, thanks for sharing all your experience with us I aprreciate it. Would you mind to answer a couple questions? if yes I would like to know how much does an owner operator can expect to make? thank you.
It will vary depending on how the company runs, but trucks like mine currently run about 125/hr, so if you can run them consistently you can make 100+k per year but that’s the key is consistency. Trucks cost a lot when they run, and even more when they don’t!
That's where iam now,,Wantto get started
thanks for sharing bruh

When do you start charging the hourly rate? Do you ask for a minimum amount of hours? Thanks alot, man.
We charge pit to pit. Unless we start outside of town, then generally we’ll get paid for the trip to load. No minimum hours, we just work the schedule so there isn’t any gaps.
Hello how do you get loads for dump trucks? Are there load boards or through a contractor company
Find the need in your area, we haul for bigger contractors and paving companies, but we also deliver a lot of materials for the end consumer as well such as driveway rock. If you are looking to get into it, call your local contractors and talk to them about potentially gaining their business!
How did you keep the dump gate/door from flopping open all the way?
For spreading, there are 2 chains that you hookup to adjust how far the door can open, this gives you a steady flow of material. Hope this helps!
Would a Mack MD Tandem do same as far as functionality?
To my knowledge no, the md isn’t built to haul the weight that these trucks are. The frame is lighter and runs lighter axles. Dump trucks need to be pretty robust. They get beat up on the pit roads and job sites. I would stay away from mid duty unless you are thinking like a single axle dump.
hey man i saw on another comment that you typically charge around $120/hour depending on fuel costs... do you also have an initial fee or like a minimum fee? if i read correctly your clock starts from the pit where youre getting loaded to where you drop off? or is it from the pit > drop off > back to the pit? i was also wondering about how much it costed you to get up and running. other than buying the truck, CDL, insurance, licensing, are there any other permits you need? do you need an MC number as well? thanks!
Pit to pit. No minimums or fees. Just hourly. We schedule the trucks to run as solid as possible. Startup cost other than the truck is gunna very, but 50k would be a bare minimum of what I would have after buying a truck, insurance is expensive, also you don’t get paid for the work you are doing immediately. My trucks are burning about 1200 dollars and fuel per truck per week. And you can easily haul 3k in materials per day. So you need to have enough working capitol to get you through those times until the checks roll in. I also suggest having spare tires purchased and at least the oil and filters for one oil change readily available. There’s a lot that goes into it haha. Point being it takes a minute to actually make money. But it can be done!!!
@@baremetalfab gotcha... would you say that theres plenty of work to go around? do you stay busy?
@@Polskmofo i mean depends on your area. Where are you located? City or rural area?
@@baremetalfab I’m in central Arkansas not far from Little Rock.
@@Polskmofo okay, yea I have no clue what your area is like haha, but what I would do is go around and get to know the local contractors, see if they have a need for materials delivery. Call the local pits and see if they are hiring trucks right now. A lot of my business comes from the pits needing trucks for their jobs. Also be good to check with the local concrete plants. That’s how I would guage it. When I started in the dump truck business, materials would be 3 weeks out or more for delivery. Point being, doing your homework before you jump in! Hope this helps!
Mac's are my favorite. Much preferred over Peterbuilt.... although Pete's look way cooler
Yea, the new Mack’s are pretty good looking but always hard to beat a long hood Pete.
Been thinking of adding a dump truck to our landscape business. How to you find work?
I’ll make a video on it, but I reach out to my contractors and ask. Also the local pits need extra trucks sometimes so you can try and get a reputation with them. If you are in the landscape business, It should benifiet you a lot. It’s really nice being able to bring my own material when I want/need it.
Also we do a decent amount of paving. Paving contractors always need trucks
@@baremetalfab good info, thank you!
I drive a Mack dump truck for a living and the thing is by far the most unreliable truck I’ve driven. The peterbilt and kw have been the best with freightliner between the others. It’s a 2016 with 250k on the motor and it’s constantly going in the shop for drivetrain problems. Mack’s are cheap up front then get you in repairs where the pacars seem the other way around.
We’ll see how they run, appreciate the input. 60k on my 22 this year so far and been a good truck. Most run Pete and kw here but a lot of my dump truck buddies that run them have issues. I feel like it’s probably luck of the draw anymore
paccars have to be just as bad if not worse but idk about dumps too much tbh.
Imo Macks and Western Stars are the best dump trucks. Forestry also.
They are built tough, definitely some design flaws, but no makes are perfect. Thanks for watching
Is that guy fishing 🎣 😂😂😂
Im trying so hard to get into business im working hard for my first dump truck
That’s awesome! Let me know if u have questions
Yes man i will do so but im from south africa so our trucks here are very costly
Can someone explain to me why is there 3 axles up in the air when loaded do you guys not know how to engineer properly? how much ton do u load into that too?
The drop axles are typically only used when running down the highway. They help with braking and handling weight by supporting the frame. We don’t run them in the pits because although they are steerable, they don’t turn as sharp. We haul 21-22 tons
@Bare Metal Fabrication 22 ton for a 6 axle that is horrible in all fairness, how come the lift axle weren't steering when they were in the air, I thought they are connected with steering linkages or are they self steer axles? If you put down ur axles when steering ur truck won't get as much body role and feel like an iron on the road
That’s what legal in the state of az. They aren’t connected to a drive linkage, they are aligned to steer with the pressure of turning. The just follow with the front truck axle does.
@Bare Metal Fabrication Oh ok I see you should try and find a loophole and carry more but I don't see any point in having a 6axle if a 4axle can do the same loads?
Varies by state
What CDL do you need, roughly what’s cost for a new dump truck?
These trucks you need a class b minimum, if you get a cdl it’s more beneficial to just get your class a tho. Roughly 250-300k in my area
@@baremetalfab how can I get into it without experience, I have been looking for a way to know how to drive a dump truck with my 10 months of experience but nobody wants to hire me.
@@kabirudeenadeleke6742 it’s tough, but can be done, find a company that is willing to give you a shot. You could offer to drive for a week without pay so you can prove yourself. Cdl drivers in the states are high in demand.
You got a brand new truck as your first truck ?
Yes I did.
I have a question, how does one go for somebody that has DUI in their record? How does it affect into becoming a O/O in this gig
I don’t know exactly, but I would imagine you would want to keep a clean record until it drops off your record. Then work on keeping the good reputation. Trucking companies are looking for reliable guys that can take care of a truck and be dependable.
To become an owner operator, it would definitely affect your insurance rate. Everything else I think would be pretty straight forward I think. And everything I said previously still applies to the contractors you work for. They want trucks that show up on time and work till the jobs done. Limited breakdowns and guys that don’t bitch about what they are hauling.
What do you get payed? Bc u got a driver fast
Are you asking driver pay? Or trucking rate?
In California I pay $250-350 for 20 tons of material. I don’t understand how you can pay off a truck like this charging that lol
Road base material
We aren’t billing for material, we’re billing for hours. Just like any hourly equipment, if it runs it’s making money. My trucks have been doing 50-60 hour weeks up until the snow hit. Trust me, they make money, otherwise I wouldn’t be doing it! Haha
That’s what you pay for material only or delivery ?
Why dump trucks there is nothing more fun than going off road in a 73000 pound truck .that and paving is fun .
Im buying 1 ne t
Awesome, thanks for watching
