- Yeah it's got a new engine and transmission, but the 2023 Jeep Compass is still an awkward size and doesn't feel great to drive. But if you have to have a Jeep, you could get this! Or a Cherokee. Or a Renegade.

These days Jeep has massive inventory levels of the Compass and several other models. If you are going to buy one, drive a very hard bargain.
I just bought one of these and I LOVE it! 🤷🏾♂️ it feels great. It's very smooth and drives nice. My only wish is that it had more cargo space in the back
Just got a 2024 compass. So far so good😊
Love my 23 Compass Trailhawk. With tradein and summer sale incentives, got it for 29K. Drove it cross state so mountains and desert environment and it was very responsive and comfortable. Very pleased. Haven’t tried it off road yet but nice to know that I have options.
How is your vehicle now and do you have any issues with it?
definitely expensive for what it is, but i love my 2023 Trailhawk! and i thought it was just me, but i agree with what you said about the throttle tuning. i find it hard to get a smooth start off the line when just driving normally.
I don’t know how you didn’t enjoy driving it. I just got a 24 limited high altitude, engine is very peppy. I do enjoydriving it. But you know what they say, opinions are like aholes, everyone’s got one!
Holy Jim trailhead! That is a fun drive. And a great little hike to Holy Jim waterfall. Just watch out for the turkey that lives in the area and likes to attack people (not even joking)

Another drive you might wan to check out is Glendora Ridge Road / Glendora Mountain Road (known locally as GRR / GMR). Great mountain views and loads of fun turns. Give room for cyclists if you go on the weekends.
If you drive GMR / GRR from West to East it drops you off at the town of Baldy Village. Just south of there is a turn off for Barret-Stoddard Truck road - another fun little 'off-road' trail that is fairly accessible.
Premium gas makes a big difference in this vehicle. Before you say it runs on regular....it will run on regular but read the manual. Performance is limited with regular fuel.
I tried both 91 (which is premium here) and 87 (which is 10% ethanol here) and i couldn't tell a difference between them. The shudder that happens in the high 20mph range still happens even with 91 octane.

I thought the Jeeps got new style key fobs.
A $40k vehicle should have a refined, smooth engine and smooth transmission. Just my opinion.

@@amazing0ne4life42 a dashboard died? You mean Guage cluster screen. Doesn't seem like a great quality, yet they look funky and unique I see why ppl buy those.
While my car was in the shop for a repair, I got one of these as a rental. I was hesitant knowing Jeep's reliability track record. Sure enough, the stupid thing broke down on me the next day. I had them switch it out with a Camry.
Curious to know what SUV you would get TOP choice and second choice?
In this class? Probably the RAV4 Hybrid, even though it’s a bit dated. Tesla Model Y would be close too. I’d get a Mazda if they had a hybrid or electric version.
My understanding is this turbo needs premium fuel. This engine is made in Italy and will be full of problems. Reading that waste-gate problems are already surfacing. PASS
This exact model that stickers for $42K and change is being advertised at nearly $9K under sticker at my local dealer right now. Bizarre.
Common tactic of GM and Stellantis. Price high and then discount so it looks like you're getting a deal.
@@DailyMotor I found out today, the last day of the month/ promotion, that the High Altitude stickering at $42K that is advertised at $33K requires financing through the dealer at an 8.5% interest rate. A bit deceptive indeed!

@@sierrachief117 Lol, I get that, but CZcams's algorithm doesn't like it. If a bunch of people click on sound test videos but ignore MPG tests and reviews, it limits the reach of the sound tests. But if I have a channel that's solely dedicated to sound tests, then the algorithm knows who it can push all the videos to.

Watch the video by the mechanic on youtube on his channel called carnut. He lifts this up and looks underneath. its a piece of junk and definately was not made for off-road. You can see there is NOTHING protecting the underside and the exhaust wlel that is laughable. absolute junk. It looks nice thats all. But you are paying for overpriced junk that will break down on you
Forget the new engine, I just want to know if Dodge is still using that utterly worthless Jatco CVT transmission in it and other Dodge models. That's the main thing. Seriously, everyone knows the transmission is a piece of junk, and yet so many different brands continue to use it. I can understand why Nissan is forced to use it since they and Jatco are owned by the same parent company. But other brands have a choice. Yet most are too lazy to develop their own or don't want to stick with a traditional automatic.
Credit to Honda, and Toyota for each coming up with their own significantly more reliable CVTs. And, credit to Mazda for sticking with a traditional automatic. As far as the Jatco CVT, literally no one works on them. Yours failed on you? One, predictable. Two, cough up $4K for a new one (plus labor to install it) because literally no mechanic at any garage works on them.
The Compass this year comes with an 8 speed automatic that came from Hyundai. As far as I know, the Jatco CVT is not being used by any Dodge/Ram/Chrysler/Jeep vehicles.

@@dauntlessasmr7910 yeah, I’m right there with you. The Jatco CVT is crap. It is even used in the Mitsubishi Mirage which only weighs 2,000 pounds and is powered by a 72hp 1.2L, and it still has issues!!

Indeed! If someone is trying to get one of the literally handful of least expensive new cars out there, there's only one reliable choice. The Chevy Spark _with the manual transmission._ Every other Sub-$20K car either comes with the Jatco CVT trans., or a horribly unreliable engine that can implode at any time. Or both!
Imagine buying a car that you think is at least good, reliable, basic transportation for several years, only to get hit with a repair bill for the engine or trans. that is now more than the car is worth. That's just wrong on all levels.

This was a common complaint when the new Cherokee came out being it is primarily a front wheel drive vehicle. The Renegade, Compass, and Cherokee all fall in that same category.
