Coffee Walk Ep. 102: Most COLLECTIBLE JEEP right NOW

  • One of the question's that I get asked the most often on Coffee Walk is what, in my opinion, is the new, up-and-coming collectible Jeep. Due to being able to find them right now with low miles and them being able to be ordered in special colors and with special options, my vote is the 97-06 TJ Wrangler!
The TJ Unlimited (most often referred to as an LJ aka "long Jeep") is my pick for the "Holy Grail" of the TJ line. I think she's the ultimate Jeep to modify. Watch this weeks' episode, and let me know what y'all think!

I'm currently building a daily drive-able rock crawler from my 2005 Deep Beryl Green Pearl LJ. My friend has a 2005 Rubihara LJ. His is more like the one you showed with the hard top and mostly original equipment other than a lift. Mine is modified quite a bit with long arm suspension, armor, and a 2 seater setup. Sold the khaki hard top itself for $1800 which was a pretty good indicator to me that these things are in demand. Looking forward to wheeling it on my local trails such as Rubicon, but I will be careful with her. As with any Jeep, check the frame for rust inside and out before buying. My frame looked fine on the outside, but was rotting on the inside. She's all fixed up now though. Cheers to the LJ!!

My first jeep was a 1982 scrambler I bought for around 3,200 in the early 90s. Built it up to go over the Rubicon trail, great jeep. My 2nd was a 99 tj sport, Auto, hard top. Fun jeep, nothing like the scrambler. My third jeep was a 2004 unlimited, and though I never got to build it up like the scrambler, it definitely was my 2nd favourite jeep. Just recently moved to South East Arizona and decided I needed a toy and trail rig and bought a 1998 se wrangler. For what I was doing around here it was plenty fun. I took my wife's 2018 JL unlimited in for a recall and an oil change last week, and there sat a 2005 2dr Rubicon. Made a deal with the dealer and brought it home. No more 98 4cyl, and have a 4.0 6 speed Rubicon, yaaa me!

On my 03 Rubicon I had to replace the "vent tube" going into in diff. It's misleading on the parts fishe. Also moved the compressors to the engine bay.

I have a 2006 TJ Rubicon. Not the unlimited package though. I believe it was one of the last TJs to roll off the production line because the manufacture date is 6-06. Hard top, 6-speed, dark green. I’ve had people offer me 15k cash in parking lots. But I’m keeping Rubi.

I like the TJ more because it’s more similar to a CJ7… I also have an 04 TJR so you can say I’m biased, but gotta love the LJ and would like to have one as well.

Kinda like a new version of a CJ-6 or Scrambler. If they weren't so valuable I'd want to build one out to make a Scrambler style truck bed to go with the extra wheelbase. Thanks!!💯

Thanks Dennis, another great coffee walk. Is there a car out there that you know nothing about? You seem to be very knowledgeable about all the cars. Great host!

I’ve had two LJRs, still have one. 06 LJ Rubicon. The best Jeep ever!
Only option my didn’t have, automatic, manuals are best. Dual tops, 6 disc changer, subwoofer, etc. Deep Beryl Green, with khaki. Too dark green personally, but I only buy green Jeeps. Still also have my 95 YJ in Emerald Green.
My first was 06 LJR in Jeep Metallic Green. Technically not even available on TJs, miss that Jeep.

Everything pre JK looks better (in my opinion) and is alot more rare in the long wheelbase form, CJ6, CJ8, DJ6, TJU, etc. The 2 door JKs and JLs are gonna be the rare ones in 20 or 30 years for sure.

Seeing this makes me mis my Grand Wagoner 1980 model. Hunter green and light tan interior. It would pass everything except a gas station

Of the 30+ vehicles I've owned (including 3 TJ's, 1 YJ, 1 XJ, 1 ZJ, 1 WJ), my Yellow 2005 Jeep Rubicon LJ is the only one I regret selling. I sold it to a friend in my local Jeep club and then it was sold on to someone in Toronto. Sadly, its probably rusted out at this point in its life with the overly salted winter roads here.
The day after driving it of the lot ($35,000 CDN) I was busy modding it for our local trails. Having over built previous jeeps I kept this one simple and low. 2" Old Man Emu coil lift, 1" coil spacers, JKS 1.25" body lift, 1" motor lift, Jeep Medic 1" lift t-case skid plate that raised the drivetrain, 1" lift gas tank skid plate. JKS sway bar disconnects and track bars 33" Super Swamper Trxus M/T, custom York A/C onboard air compressor with custom rear tire carrier bumper that doubled as an air tank, Warn M8000 winch and a Flow Master 40 muffler that sounded incredible when crawling through the woods.
It drove like a dream on and off road compared to the shorter wheel base version. I sold it because I only used it for off roading and felt guilty having it sit in the driveway not being used every day. It was a great vehicle for the trails in Eastern Ontario/ Western Quebec and even the odd trip down to Paragon off road park that used to be in PA.

I have a 91 Jeep Wrangler YJ. Inline 4-cylinder.2.5 . Rebuilt bored out 30 thousands over. The first couple of oil changes I used Mobil 1 synthetic.
Jeep smelled funny like a boats bilge. I switched over to Valvoline conventional. The smell disappeared immediately. I'm going to stick with the Valvoline conventional.. just in case anybody has the same issue.
