My thoughts also. He was wild, partying, had that rock star image back then. But we’ve sll aged and I’m impressed how he was mature enough to grow up. Get professional “in life” I feel like I know him like a friend yet he doesn’t know me. 🤣 oh well. Good for him. Ride on!

I hope I am not misremembering, but something I recall about Emig was when he won his 1992 125 National title. Sitting on the bike, covered in mud with his crew congratulating him. He was obviously overcome with emotion, and he said he just wanted to find his dad. That told you everything you needed to know: biggest moment in his career at that point, and he wanted to share it with the person that helped him get there.

Jeff came full circle back to the fun and fulfillment just in riding, something that is lost when competing for a championship. The true test of how "spiritual" you are about it is how you feel when you lose. If you are totally bummed out then racing to you is just an ego trip. If you are glad you competed and it's OK you lost then you are truly enjoying life.

I rode on a track (on a practice day) in LA about 20 years ago, and Emig was there. Of course he was flying, faster than everyone. But then he and some friends of his moved over to an adjacent area which had these enormous dirt piles. I rode over to watch. Emig went from a dead stop, short run to a pile, and--I shit you not--he launched so high and far off of it, he would have cleared a large 2-story house--and he landed perfectly on the downslope of another pile which was so far away, it didn't even seem possible! You can't practice that. How the hell did he know he'd land exactly where he did?? It was so big a jump, if he came up short or long he'd be seriously injured. It's not like he had the chance to build up to it. He just hit it and landed it perfectly.
I've seen Bob Hannah defy physics, but this jump Emig did surpasses that because of the danger of it. My jaw dropped for real. I swear this story is true. I still can't explain how he did it, without bringing in the idea that he is not fully human, but some kind of god or something. That day, I was humbled more than I've ever been. I was a pro racer myself before that, and it suddenly became harshly obvious that I would never be anywhere close to his level.
I couldn't even talk to him after that. I was so stunned. I saw him sitting in the back of his box van. We glanced at each other. He was comfortable and friendly with people. But I walked on, pretty much in a daze. My mind was melted after seeing what he did. The talent he has is beyond comprehension! And he's a nice guy, too!
Obviously, I'm a fan of his for life. If I could afford it, I'd love to race at Loretta's next year in the 50+ class with him. I think we're a little closer in speed now than before. But still, he's Emig, so best I could hope for is to keep him in sight for a short time. Damn!! ;-)

50cc? Interesting. Looks both fun and relatively safe. The HUGE mistake I made was buying a new 450 last year, thinking that I could still do motocross in my 50's, like I did in my 20's... ouch, a very painful lesson! My next bike, if my wife let's me, will be half the size... but now that I see emic going around on a 50cc, I'm wondering if I should go even smaller? 🤣
    Good luck, Jeff! 👍

    To all,
Get a stationary bike to help rehab leg injuries.
I took a digger 2 weeks and thought I popped my acl, I felt something pop.
Acl seems intact, but lots of stationary biking got my range and strength back.
I still need a week or 2 of strength training before I can ride again.
At 60 this was a scary injury, I dodged a bullet for sure.
The bike is awesome to help speed up recovery time.
