- For your cascadias 2018 and below you may be getting this code come active. Or maybe you just see your coolant level sensor leaking. Either way you’ll see here how to replace it without draining the cooling system.
Stay safe and stay hustling out there.
And if you like what you see and are feeling generous, help out some hungry techs out here

Thanks for watching and I like where your going with this. Thank you for your support as this starts to grow.
Love your videos. I have a 17 Cascadia and trying to figure out the fix for code spn 1548 fmi 5
thanks for reaching out. This has to do with an issue with your hvac duct temp sensors. Either sensor failed or wiring to the sensor is shorting. Would need to pull resistant chart and dump the sensor in cold water to test it out.
Thank you so much for your great job God bless 🙏
Nice video brother, just the noise is little bit bad ,other than that I need that
Thank you, I needed this information. It answered my questions.
Glad it came in handy for you. Hopefully more vids on this channel continues to do the same
I had just changed water pump on freightliner 2015 the other day because it was leaking. So we got it changed and everything, and then the next day, I had spn 111 fail 1 eng0 code for low coolant level on the road with all the lights starts blinking and shuts down the truck so we restartedand drove slowly to the yard, but coolant level was good. So we added more coolant and just played with sensor unplug and plug, and ever since, no light showed up. Just wondering what could have gone wrong or if I should still get a coolant level sensor ?
@@flyingjstation thanks for reaching out. You definitely have a coolant level sensor issue , either pigtail to it or sensor itself. You did lent do anything wrong. Sometimes when it’s a float style and it gets an empty system the sensor starts sticking. Contamination in the cooling system will also corrode contacts in the sensor. There both cheap enough I’d do sensor and pigtail.
Awesome video you definitely came through with the clutch on helping me out it’s a longer story but long story short I really appreciate your video my guy keep making the world a better place 🫡🤙🏾
@@biganchor4073 always appreciate that positive feedback. Really makes a difference especially with all the haters out there. Glad this vid came in handy for you. And hope more vids are able to give you the insight you need to make more informed decisions.

Hi! I have a 2014 Freightliner cascadia and it has been cutting off and I loos all electrical power. I changed the pndb and the kill switch and it’s still doing it. Some it go’s a week or two. Do you have any ideals.
I would say it has to be connections from battery to the cab or a cracked fuse. Keep it simple and start looking over all cables.
Hi JD. thanks for your posted videos those are very helpful. I have issue with my 2015 Freightliner cascadia from last year and 3-4 mechanics couldn’t solve it.
When I drive and going up hill mostly or truck gets difficulty on cruise control, suddenly check engine light on and stop engine light on out of cruise control happens. After that I press gas pedal slowly then light turn off. Sometimes engine shuts down too. I will start engine after stop, lights goes away and keep driving like nothing happen. We already changed the coolant sensor and didn’t solve the problem. But when I bypass the coolant sensor I drove no problem What you think what is the problem?
Thank you for your help
Thanks for watching and reaching out. Appreciate your support. You have a very interesting issue. But I see you have narrowed it down to the coolant circuit. When jumped at the sensor it will drive with absolutely no issues. I would actually connect my multi meter to each leg of the circuit from sensor to Cpc in cab and watch what happens when I wiggle test all the wiring. There will be a spike and that would tell me exactly where to look for a short causing your eng/stop eng lights. Or if you wanted to fix it quick run an overlay(2additional wires replacing original ones )from the sensor to the cpc connector 3 I believe. The dealer would have this over lay with pins already on there. You would just need wire loom. This sounds like this would take care of your issue with no wasted time searching for the short. And it’s not as bad as it sounds. If you wanted to try I can help you with wire numbers and pin locations. Hope this helps somewhat. Good luck on your adventure.
@@bustedknucklebydieseldr3228 thanks again
JD, you mentioned that you have a tool that checks the pin spread in the sensor plug. Tell me more about that tool - considering there are so many sensors with that same plug design, seems like it might be a tool worth having. Does it check electrical contact too?
Great point. I’ll have another video with common tools needed for the job.
Hello, I got 2018 one my problem is every week I have to add a gallon of coolant I’m not sure what’s cause that. I replaced the sensor level and temperature sensor and the thermostat as well. Do you have any idea why…?thank you
Your best bet is to buy a pressure tester and put the system under pressure. Most of the time the leak is external so with some pressure you’ll find in. In worst cases you’ll notice it in your fuel tank or oil. And than it’s gna get costly.
Thank you
Thank you!
Awesome thanks
Good evening, I have Kenworth T680 2019 and every time I’m turning the truck on it show stop engine immediately, I went the dealer for diagnostic, they’re saying it’s the coolant sensor giving the issues, is it the similar situation as you showed, should I replace the whole reservoir or only the sensor? Thank you!
If you get the red check engine light warning on the road with spn 111 fail 1 eng 0 and trucks shut down. Can we bypass the coolant sensor by unplugging it and drive to the safe spot ?
yes unplug the sensor u will have your check light on unless you plug it back in
you can drive
Hey I have a 2014 fraightliner cascadia, and im have a issue with high coolant pressure. I changed the water pump, thermostat, egr cooler, and air compressor. All at separate times. I have had to replace heater cores front and rear and the coolant tank a few times any ideas 💡. Tks oh yeah the coolant is clean
Thank you for you help me a lot
Hello sir, I lost all coolant today with all 3 engine lights on. Have same code as shown no leaks showing anywhere but do see a speck of milky on top of dip stick. Would love your input
This is a case of oh crap. I’m thinking if you try to drain your oil it will be milky and overfull. If this is the case you have a liner issue and it’s time for a rebuild.
Hello friend. I have freightliner m2 106 2008. I need change coolant temperature sensor. But I can’t find him where he is. Can you tell me? The temperature when it leaves a little more than 200, it then turns on. When I go up the mountain, the car heats up and turns off. I think my sensor doesn’t work well.
Do you know what kind of engine is in that m2.

I have a 2016 cascadia and am getting that code. And keep shutting down , shower me coolant level is low but actually it's not. What could have cause that.
You either have a sensor issue or wiring issue. Either way start looking into it quick before it shuts you down.
Hello, im working 2009 Pierce firetruck code and it's throwing active code for low coolant level 111-18,
I replaced coolant level sensor 2x and it comes back, today i overlayed new wiring with pigtail, i only layed new wiring in enginebay and it threw active code for turbocharger compressor inlet temp high code 1172-3, and low coolant code goes away.
Im getting 4.87volts at coolant level sensor.
Any ideas and thanks in advance.
It's 2009 detroit series 60,
If the radiator is fine but has fuel In it from bad injector cups ..can you just flush radiator and keep it moving...???
Yes you can and great question. There is a bottle called restore that is used with water to flush the cooling system. It might take a couple times but usually does the trick.
@@bustedknucklebydieseldr3228 thanks man.. I'm being charged 7100 bucks from the dealer to replace injector cups "o" rings & to flush radiator and tanks..am I being over charged??
@@juancepeda9620 that is pretty damn pricey but hopefully that includes replacing all six injectors. That would make sense why so expensive. If they’re reusing the injectors then it shouldn’t be that much.
Make some more movis about air intake system problem Detection
Hey I have probem Air intake system problem Detected 25%Derate. SPN102FMI18
Thanks for reaching out. That one can be a tricky one where there is quite a bit of troubleshooting involved.main issue is engine isn’t seeing enough air flow into the system than it was expecting It would be checking for intake/boost leaks, exhaust leaks, biased sensors, turbo actuator output press, plugged aftertreatment. Very intensive. Hope that clears up your next route of getting it fixed.
We had the same problem and after checking all clamps on intake we replaced the intake diferencial pressure sensor and is located on intake on driver side.
Hope it helps
🎉
I have an issue with codes spn 111 fmi 1 and fmi 18.
I replaced the coolant sensor and pigtail and problem is still there
If it’s the new cascadia than the issue could be a stuck float in the reservoir. If not new than you have a wiring issue and may need an overlay harness ran.
How do I clear the stop engine code? Can anyone assist me
That code will only clear when the system sees the issue has been cleared. Otherwise it’ll stay active.
Coolant level sensor
My truck said spn111 FMi 3
That will still be a coolant sensor or wiring issue. It just changes slightly like shorted high instead of low.
Will that make the fan stay on??
Good question,, this will not force the fan to come on. More than likely cause stop Eng light to come on though.
@@bustedknucklebydieseldr3228 I had my air compressor replaced by Freightliner, and I noticed my fan stays on constantly
@@shadmikey with that issue your fan switch or fan solenoid might be the issue. If it wasent an issue before the compressor replacement is be leaning towards the high pressure switch.
@@bustedknucklebydieseldr3228 can you tell me what switch exactly? I don’t have a fan switch inside
@@shadmikey part of the ac system is a fan pressure switch. So when the ac comp head pressure gets to high the fan gets switched on to bring pressures down. It would be on your ac lines.
