I’m Australian and it’s pretty common for teens to swear around their parents, usually in conversation and not at them though. My parents honestly don’t mind unless I’m using swears to insult them.
Also Australian, can confirm. When I was a kid we couldn’t swear but by the time my younger brother was nearly 18 we all swore around my parents. Now my mum is worse than all of us haha
For sure. As long as you don't swear at them, you're fine. I find that saying for fucks sake to my Mum is a bit borderline.

I was the most quiet, polite, meek teenager, and my mom used to threaten to send me off to religious school or put me in foster care because she thought it was normal to hate your kid for no reason. She got so bad that I BEGGED her to send me away. Then she got old and I realized that we could get along as long as I treated her like a three year old with a teenage attitude.
Wish I could have sent HER to the worlds strictest parents.

As someone in my mid twenties I can confirm we were horrible as teenagers and now I’m that adult that is ‘no fun’ which at 16 I said I’d never become
Although i agree that these kids are terrible to their parents, not all parents deserve respect. My birth mom left when i was 2 because she was a drug addicted hooker who would rather live on the streets than have a family life. My step mom has been around since i was 3, and i went through years of abuse and torment because of her. Anyone can make a kid, but not everyone is fit to be a real parent.

I use to love watching this show. Its been awhike since I've watched it but I think from memory this is the first time I've seen the strick family offer the nicotine patches for the kids. I know how frustrating it can be being made to go with out smokes for a while without some kind of help

My mom decided me smoking instead of cutting was the lesser of two evils, so I’ve never felt the need to hide it, even at 15 - 16. It’s nice to hear that they offered patches and gum cause it would probably be a really shitty time for everyone otherwise, since quitting doesn’t exactly make you the friendliest person. I just hope they don’t force them to attend church or something.

I was a right kn*ob head in my teen years bc I had neglectful, abusive parents who only acted as parents when it suited them. So from my perspective like hell I was going to listen to anything they’d have to say
My dad was like this, leading to everyone thinking me and my mum where exaggerating when I was at a psych ward and we told them he showed up to meetings/came to visit because it looked good, only to stop as I left. He even straight up said he could’ve been with his other daughter who was at the hospital because her immune system was shitty (cause that was more important I guess?). Of course you wouldn’t listen then, and it’s a good point. Sure, their behaviour can change because of their friends/etc but we don’t know how their parents were growing up.
i am so scared that that’s what people think of us. usually a “patriotic” room or person is a huge red flag to the good ones.

I'm American. I hate sports! Thankfully, so does my husband and our children. I can't deal with sports people. I hate to see a poor little kid that just wants to go play, instead being forced to participate in baseball, football, cheerleading, gymnastics, etc. Those type of parents are so aggressive, and competitive. They live vicariously through their children, living out their best teenage fantasies. I see it as cruel. Rather, I ask my kids what they're interest are and what they want to participate in. I believe children are capable of telling us whether or not they like soccer more than football, or dance, art, karate, music... you get it. I just want my kids to find what they're passionate about, and to form their own beliefs about life, religion, politics, whatever. I'm here to guide them in the morally sound direction. Not dictate they're every thought and opinion.

To be honest I think that's just what they titled it as it sounds more dramatic and scary. It looked like they were just nice family with some Bible quotes on the wall, not really a big deal.

About swearing - I don't mind swearing in front of my parents (and they can do the same) if we have agreement that this is okay in our family. I'm not consider it's "normal", but something that can be decided to consider as "normal" for every family individually.
Personally, I'm not enjoying swearing that much and trying to avoid people who swears a lot.

I’m more than sure I was annoying, I started having bad health issues in my teens and that plus hormones. Yeah I’m not proud of how I acted but i think the biggest thing for me was I knew I wasn’t handling it well I’m and I kept telling everyone to go away or leave me alone.
If I said anything like that to my mom I would have gotten my mouth smacked and write an essay

I find it funny how mostly everyone I saying teens are the worst, I guess it just depends how they raise you up, I used to be a really respectful teen, I didn't drink or smoke and not because of fear, but because they thought me that I didn't need that sht in my life
I used to be a good kid/teen too, atleast until i was 16, at 16 i started doing drugs to escape the bullying in school, and i made me different.I used to look up on adults and respect the elder. I started smoking weed somewhere around 15 years old, and at 16 i was doing opiates and opioids and by the age of 18 ive already tried everything and started to mix em, experience the combos. My craziest night consisted of 10 different drugs/meds, and alcohol. Its fucked up and i wouldnt want this even on my worst enemy.

As an American, I can offer a bit of insight on why we're so proud of our flag. Long story short, it boils down to colonialism. Any country in the Americas that fought a war of independence has a similar affinity for their flag.
You can see it in any parking lot here in the US. Latinos and US citizens tend to hang their national flags from their rear view mirrors. You'll see it in body art, too. Brazilians, Mexicans, pretty much any nationality you can think of will tattoo their national flags on themselves.
Basically, our national flags represent the blood of our forefathers and the monumental sacrifices they made, to ensure a free and independent future for our nations. The favt the Brits don't understand why we do it boils down to a difference between the colonizer and the colonized.

@@SarahKing3GD Ooh, yeah 😕 I agree it is mocked quite a bit as well and you've probably been asked if you're from Canada too, I've heard that from people with accents around that area, but I think the issue with southern accent is the "nascar watching, beer drinking, ignorant, etc" kind of stereotypes. My husband is from Michigan, so we always joke to eachother about our polar opposite accents.
Honestly though, it's kind of fun sometimes when you move out west to California or Nevada where everyone is so diverse and you hear tons of different accents. I always got asked where I was from. A lot of people thought Texas lol
