- This NBA Finals is the first ever between the US and Canada. Which of course is fun but Jimmy wanted to point something out that has been bothering him and that is the Raptors team slogan, “We The North.” Toronto is not the North. Toronto is part of Canada and it’s actually the Southern part. Canada is its own country and your location identity shouldn’t be relative to America. Wethought we could have some fun with this, so we went out on the street and we asked pedestrian show they felt about the news that Canada had just become our 51st State. Of course, that did not happen. But did that stop people from weighing in on it? We find out in tonight’s Canada edition of #LieWitnessNews.

In Canada you have the right to doctor assisted suicide for the terminally Ill. Marijuana is completely legal, this may shock you but we're even allowed to have guns up here, gays have the right to marry nationwide, we have the right to healthcare without going into financial ruin, women are free to make decisions about their own bodies and our incarceration rate is almost 1/6th that of the United States (per 100K people). I don't understand the argument. The US has the highest incarceration rate in the free world. Based on that, statistically speaking, you're the least free of the 90 free countries in the world

This is a direct rip-off from the Canadian show called, “This Hour Has 22 Minutes.” , where Rick Mercer, did a regular segment called, “Talking to Americans.” 🙄
Then they should have changed their name to the "Canadian Raptors" or the "Great Northern Raptors". Keeping Toronto in their name specifies a specific location in extreme Southern Canada. As well, it's not particularly inclusive to use the name of one City. Some great examples of sports teams that were inclusive by name in the NFL: Tennessee Titans, New York Giants & New England Patriots. In MLB: Florida Marlins, Colorado Rockies & Texas Rangers. In the NHL: Colorado Avalanche
So as you can see, they could have changed their name to be more representative of an entire Country. And why does Canada only have one NBA team anyway?

Canada is MORE free! We live longer, healthier and never have to choose between medical care and rent. Not having the gun problem is VERY freeing - We don't fear sending our kids to school. THAT is true freedom - Peace of mind.

When the Raptors say: “WE THE NORTH” it refers to Canada being THE NORTH. Not just Toronto. Because Toronto is the only team in Canada. And Canada is north of the US.
Have to disagree - if you live in Toronto, as I do, you’ll know that Torontonians DO think of themselves as ‘the north’ - ie as representative, ie as self appointed spokespersons. … Moreover, if you’ve lived elsewhere in Canada (as I also have) you’ll also know that Toronto is pretty far removed from much the rest of the country : economically, culturally, demographically, linguistically, politically….even when it comes to weather. Most people in Manitoba laugh their heads off when Toronto issues an ‘Extreme weather warning’ for -5 degrees. Hence, why Winnipeg Jets fans’s cheer is “TRUE” north.

I'm looking at a map of North America and it shows: Washington, Montana, North Dakota, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Half of New York, Half of Wisconsin, Half of Oregon, Half of Idaho, Half of South Dakota, Half of Michigan and 3/4 of Minnesota are all north of Toronto. Not what I would call "North".

No, they're really that stupid. I have had conversations like this with people. I grew up in Europe and when we'd visit the US, I had multiple adults at different times ask if we had driven or flown from Europe. Driven... across the Atlantic. I think some might not have even understood there was an entire ocean between the two. And my sister one time answered (because she was now used to being asked this), "No, we were going to take the bridge but it was down for repairs, so we had to fly." And the person responded, "Oh yea, I think I heard about that." That's one example out of MANY....
