In today's video I recommend some summery/beachy books, movies, tv shows and activities to get you in the mood for summer! For me, this summer is all about all things breezy, warm and light. Mediterranean Mamma mia summer vibes. Everything coastal grandmother and nautical. Growing up, I didn't enjoy summer very much (living in Arizona and Utah in the desert, I just could not enjoy the extreme heat, dryness and lack of greenery) but since I've started immersing myself in my imagination with the help of aesthetics like "mamma mia European summer" and "coastal grandmother" and "cottagecore" I've been able to find ways to truly enjoy this beautiful season. Now I really do honestly love summer, and I hope maybe some of these tips and ideas can help you to enjoy it a bit more if you're also someone who struggles to find the beauty in this season 💙

Just a reminder to everyone that you don't have to look a certain way to enjoy Summer. There is so much pressure on us to have the perfect body and be perfectly shaven, and this is probably the most difficult season for many of us in terms of body image. I love the way Desi romanticises each season, and helps us find joy in the little moments. However, acceptance of your body and your life the way they are is equally important, and I hate the way society and social media puts so much pressure onto women to look a certain way. Your value is so much more than the way you look, and a woman's body is the least interesting thing about her. Go have fun! ❤️

Summer is a time for doing things that make us happy and enjoying the weather despite what we think we “should” look or even feel like. Last summer I was really struggling with my mental health and I constantly was comparing myself to everyone having such a good time and being happy. If I would have just compared myself less and focused more on just accepting and nurturing myself, I would have had such a better time. Having fun should absolutely be top priority over everything else 💗

I really struggle with Summer. I get so down when the temperatures get super hot. I feel like summer has this expectation of always having to be great and for me it’s four months of anxiety. I really appreciate your videos and they help me to realize that it’s the little things. Instead of focusing on the snakes and bugs focusing on the birds and flowers, that sort of thing. Two of my favorite movies for summer are Stand by Me and Indian Summer.
I struggle too! Some people love it so much I always feel like an odd duck out disliking it. But between the heat, the kids, the lack of routine, I almost always get down. Desi's channel is always encouraging and hopeful!

My grandfather used to takes us kids to "cricket hunting" at summer nights, we would go outside in our pyjamas and flashlights and look for crickets and fireflies. It had a secret adventure vibe and we loved it ^^

I struggle a lot with summer. Growing up, I was most prone to depression & anxiety in the summer because my home life wasn’t great & I was stuck at home. Your videos are always so calming & they bring me so much joy! I’m in a season of a lot of changes & difficulties going on in my life, but this video brought me so much comfort ❤️ and inspired me to try to enjoy summer. Usually I spend the whole summer saying “You know what’s great about this month?! It’s only _____ months until September!” I love fall so much, but maybe I can start loving summer too. Even if it’s because it’s the prequel to my favorite season ☀️
I have also experienced the most anxiety and panic attacks during the summer especially since graduating high school. Every summer was just a time of limbo where plans weren't settled for the fall and the future was uncertain if not outright bleak. 5+ years later summer has stayed that way, but I loved summer as a kid and want to find things I like about it again. Fall is also my favorite, so I like thinking of it as a prequel 😄
I hope you understand the impact that you have on the people who care about you. You are my serotonin boost and inspiration. I’ve always despised summer but I’m learning to love it.

I loved this video. Last night, I finished reading “Where the Crawdads Sing”. My mom passed away in 2019, and before that she begged me to read it. I now know she so badly wanted to discuss it with me. Sadly, I just couldn’t read during that year. I was going through so much. Well, I sobbed through it. I absolutely loved it. I don’t know if you had read it. I know many people love this book. It is now on my favorite list. The movie comes out in July and Taylor Swift has a song on the soundtrack. This book will stay with me for a very long time for so so many reasons. Thank you for your beautiful videos!
Your story reminded me of my dad. "Where the Crawdads Sing" was the last book he read before he died. He told me to read it because he thought I would like it. It's been almost three years now and I still haven't read the book because up until this point it has been too painful. Maybe it will be healing to read it?

The fact your dad wanted you to read this, tells me he was so proud of you, and that the main character resonated with him, and her strength probably reminded him of you. I lost my dad when I was young. He was my everything! Even though I don’t know you, please know that my heart goes out to you. Read this beautiful book. Talk to your dad while you read it, and cry, cry, cry. And I can tell you something else, your dad was an amazing man because he picked up this book in the first place. Delia Owens shows her readers the definition of what a man should be and what he shouldn’t. There will be so many beautiful messages your dad will give you while you read this book. Keep in touch! Thank you for the kind words and taking the time to reply. Before it was too painful to read this book but I plan on getting to it this summer. Would live to read it before the movie comes out. It's funny because Where the Crawdads Sing is not a book my dad would typically pick up. He was very much a non-fiction (science, nature, history) reader but said he saw it on a book list and thought it sounded good. Anyway, thank you for giving me the nudge to pick it up and think about my dad while reading it. I know their will be tears! Sorry that you too have experienced the loss of a parent. It leaves such a hole in one's life.

I’d highly recommend the beautiful and uplifting ‘Enchanted April’ by Elizabeth Van Armin. It takes you back to Italy in the 1920’s with three women who are suffering from neglect, loveless relationships and a feeling of hopelessness. They then travel to a castle in Italy and life starts to transform. It surrounds me with the hope that I can open up to new possibilities, friendship and that the power of love can melt even the stoniest of hearts. Enjoy xx

I'm obsessed with Dawson's Creek. It's all about 90's fashion, coastal vibes, sunsets, friendships & love. 🥰 The characters are comfort characters. It's just great! My mom was watching it back then and now I'm watching it, it's totally timeless, I bought all the dvd's from a garage sale just in case it's not on Netflix anymore one day. Where are the Dawson's Creek enthousiasts?? I'm so happy it's getting recognition here 😆

Every summer since I was a baby I go to Traverse City to visit my grandma and go to the Cherry Festival and take a picture on the Ferris wheel. It seems a little silly since I just turned 20, but every year I still love it.

I've struggled appreciating summer in the past as well. In the middle of July last year I moved from southern California to middle Ga to live with my long distance partner. Now summer has a really special place in my heart! I can't believe I missed hearing the cicadas and I'm so happy they're back. I'm so excited to enjoy summer, thank you for all this inspo
One of my favorite summer things is 4th of July celebration. When I was attending BYU in Provo I was dazzled by their fireworks display. Also hiking the mountains, putting your drinks in the freezing water and just enjoying nature and friends.
Have you seen Enchanted April? It's a movie about a group of women renting out a villa in Italy, The scenery is amazing.

My book recomendations for summer are "A Year in Provence" written by Peter Mayle. And "The Darling Buds of May" written by H E Bates. Both have TV miniseries as well. The 90s version of "The Darling Buds of May" starring David Jason, Pam Ferris and Catherine Zeta-Jones has pure Cottagecore vibes.

Parent Trap is near and dear to my heart! I remember being obsessed when it came out and wanting to go to summer camp. I got to go a couple years later and went for years- camp was my life! My dad then died when I was at my first night of my fourth year at camp, and that was it for the rest of my teen years. Now I work as a riding instructor at a camp that’s at the real Camp Walden in Maine, and I worked at Camp Walden for a summer. The director of parent trap was a Waldenite!

Living in Greece and having visited both the island where Mamma Mia is located and the Durrells, I can GUARANTEE you, they are as beautiful as they seem in the movies! If not even more! I would recommend two more tv series, both from Netflix. The first is Surviving Summer, set in Australia, filled with teenage kids surfing, always with a drama storyline underneath, and the second is one of my favourites, Outer Banks! Filled with mystery and hidden treasures, is about a teenager group, getting into trouble, living by the sea and hunting unreachable goals! SO good!

I do really struggle with enjoying summer, as I’ve got older I sometimes forget how to romanticise it, like I did when I was a child, I just wanted to say how much you’ve helped me get out of my head and enjoy being in the moment ❤️
I actually really enjoyed One Italian Summer and it’s one of my favorite books! I think that has a lot to do with the fact that my mom passed away when I was young, so the concept of meeting a younger version of my mother and getting to know her as a friend who was my age (rather than my mother) was very appealing to me.
If you like the concept of exploring different types of love and finding love through grief, I would highly recommend “The Provence Cure for the Broken Hearted” by Bridget Asher! It seems right up your alley and is a great summer read that takes place in France. It’s a really underrated book but one of my favorites! It has drama and romance and explores how “true love” may not be what you think it is. I really hope you try reading it! It’s amazing!

A summer tradition for me and my bestie is outdoor live music. I live in Colorado and during the summer there are weekly free live music concerts around town. We also like to go on hikes during the summer 🥾

I’ve started playing a bunch of instruments (I’m not particularly good at any of them), but the best summertime instrument is definitely my ukulele. I love sitting on my porch looking at my garden and strumming away while my kids play in their little inflatable pool. Perfect summer activity if you’ve ever wanted to try an instrument.

this video really came at the perfect time. summer used to be my favorite season (spring overtook it) and I wanted to get some of that magic back this year, so I've been making a list of 90s and early 2000s movies to watch to get me in the nostalgic mood. The Parent Trap was what inspired it all! and I'm making a bucket list like I used to do, but was struggling with some ideas, so thank you very much for this!

Also, “Aquamarine” seems like a modern retelling of the Little Mermaid, even though “Aquamarine” is a book by Alice Hoffman.

I have read a lot of books, but one I read lately really stood out. I don’t know how or why, but it’s almost as if it changed my life.. It’s named «Call me by your name» and has a sequel called «Find me». It is set in northern italy, and is written with the most beautiful language! It’s such a beautiful book, and I recommend it so much this summer!
This year is my first year driving. I have a little green sage fiat 500 and it feels so vintage to drive! This makes me feel so happy this summer, I’m 37 and took a long while to get here driving. Every time I get in the car I feel so excited and play inspiring imaginative music and drive along the coast where I live. I live on a coastal island called the Isle of Wight in the uk. Queen Victoria used to live here and there is alot of Victorian era buildings here
