- In this video we see SL05 collecting green waste bins in Strathfield Council on a sunny Wednesday morning on its third load for the day of heavy green waste. SL05 works throughout the week (Monday-Thursday) as the only truck collecting greenwaste in the Strathfield LGA, servicing on average about 1,500 bins every day and completing a solid four loads in an average 7-8 hour time frame. SL05 is the permanent truck used by Sita Australia for the Strathfield Greens "agreement" contract, SL05 starts collecting at 3am and is usually completed by 10-11am, doing four solid loads of vegetation on most days of the week. SL05 is a 1996 International Acco and with a Macdonald Johnston MkIII body.
This truck is certainly reaching near the end of its life at Sita as there is news that they will not be renewing the rego for this truck when it runs out in June/July 2015, which means it will either be scrapped or sold. This truck is around 20 years old and even though it still goes strong picking up bins daily, it is not worthwhile for Sita to have an old truck like this one in there fleet. This truck has certainly done its rounds around Sydney, believed to be a former Collex (Veolia) truck in the old Ryde contract picking up the garbage bins and then in 2006 being sold to WSN to be used for the short stint of a contract over in Parramatta. After WSN finished up in Parramatta this truck was kept as a spare by WSN in the Eastern Creek Yard, originally used as a spare in the Fairfield Recycle contract and later on shared between Fairfield and Ryde when needed as a spare. In the recent few years and up until to this date SL05 has been used as a permanent truck over in Strathfield collecting the greens, where it will remain until retired from service by Sita Australia.
After hearing the news that this trucks time was coming to an end it was a must for me to head over to Strathfield to see this "old girl" handling the lines of green bins in the quiet streets of Strathfield on a sunny Wednesday morning at around 7am. After entering the collection zone on that Wednesday straight away I heard and saw the truck in the distance and it was a sigh of relief as he had just started his third load which meant there was ample time to get some good shots. Mick is the awesome driver behind the wheel of SL05 and was good to catch up with him again and get his beloved SL05 "old girl" on video and make sure it was in the "history books" for many years to come and he is also one of the neatest drivers out of the Eastern Creek yard, as you will see in the video. Thanks goes to the awesome driver Mick for letting me get some video and I hope he enjoys the video of him in action. Also thanks to you guys for watching and remember to like, fav and sub.

Awesome stuff Alex. I can see what you mean by this driver being the most tidy driver. Very nice to see such a old truck still going strong. Can only find one MKIII in Melbourne and that's #10 in Moreland but I do believe there are a couple in Glenelg whitch is out the western end of VIC.
MelbourneGarbo® Thanks Caiden, he sure is, closes every lid :) Yeah its nice to see an oldie still going hard like this one and it gets the job done more reliable than the other white MKIV side loader spares in the yard ! The MkIII's are a dying breed both in Sydney and Melbourne, prob SL05 is one of the last remaining MkIII's with a permanent run, the rest in Sydney are spares.
i love sita trucks
Excellent video Alex!!!!
***** Cheers Yianni !
Nice mate!
Iveco fan nz Thanks mate
You can just spot the tiniest bit so the old WSN paint around the hopper
willoughbygarbagefan 31 Sure can even around the door trims in the cab and also on the roof of the body, green paint has peeled away revealing the iconic yellow WSN colour :P
do you know if there are still any WSN contracts around or are they no longer in business?
willoughbygarbagefan 31 No SITA Australia acquired WSN in February 2011, so all the WSN facilities and collection contracts were taken over by Sita and hence all trucks were painted in Sita livery.
sad they were some nice trucks!
I bet that clip at 2:50 was taken right beside Centenary Dr, those walls look really familiar. I noticed the exhaust is turned around and facing the lifter, would sound awesome as the driver. Looks like she still works alright on the outside anyway.
MitchellM15 Sure was mate if you listen closely you can even hear the traffic on the other side of the wall, this was taken in Pemberton St towards the end in the cul-de-sac. SL05 still goes good mate, inside and out, the only bummer is it has a top speed of 80km when empty and other than that all is good, the arm works at a good speed, the cab is immaculate and it packs a good load. I can see why this driver chooses to take this truck out over those white MKIV's :)
Nice video Alex! Love how you use a tripod at different times! Nice angle so!
willoughbygarbagefan 31 Thanks mate :)
you're welcome
Very nice vid mate that's a nice girl can't wait for more of this truck :)
RedlandsGarbageFan Thanks mate, she is a beaut truck SL05, dont know if I can get more of this truck as rego expires in June and most likely Sita wont renew the registration cause of its age, but if it is still around next holidays I will head out and get more :)
my dad works for sita
+AWESOME BRO1019 #2 Nice, what yard does he work out of ? Is it in Sydney ? Does he drive the side loaders, rear loaders or front lift trucks ?
+AussieGarbo67 he works in Melbourne and drives a hook truck. they recently changed their name to suez
+AWESOME BRO1019 #2 Yeah they are slowly re branding all there trucks and bins with the suez signage
It's a shame I get all the dislikes :/
NSWGarboFan Don't worry about the dislikes mate, myself and most of the guys on here always look forward to your quality videos, keep up the videos and dont worry about the odd dislike :)
The arm doesn't look that crash hot it's a bit wobbly must be an old truck
