Imagine if it was something useful like a fingerprint sensor for Windows Hello?
Especially if more apps decide to start using keypasses, the only option now is to buy an impractical external fingerprint scanner. I'd love to see fingerprint sensors in good mechanical keyboards!
I'm loving that functionality on my MacBook Air. Jes sayin'…

I can't believe that knob is not for volume, that kills it for me
yeah, that just killed the sale for me, i was about to pull the trigger
I imagine it's programmable
I have th80 pro from epomaker
The software lets you program it
@@jan-Juta Watch when he turns it; it looks like it clicks to about 5 different stopping points.
It also doesn't have media controls, I use those so much on my keyboard I don't think I could move away from that
I hate keyboards without the F row, I use those function alot
I don't do shit and I use them too, not all of them but I use them at least five times per boot, I don't think I would be able to replace them with macros since all of them do different things (depending on the program running)

This 70% layout looks very weird, I guess it's just not common. I'm sure it does fit for a specific kind of person.
Oh really reasonable price too.
No one needs anything more than a 50% imo, learn layers and save time
Just add the buttons and save even more time. Just buy a bigger desk.@@jagdteaguer
Add a Fn button, and just get rid of 50% of the keys, let every single one have a double function. Just git gut.
@@jagdteaguerexactly! Keyboards should just have one key. The input can be registered by clicking the key as many times as the ascii value of the character you’re trying to type.
@@jagdteaguer mmmm when it comes to gaming I am 100% with you there! But as someone that uses for example blender a numpad isnt really something I can not have since its used for navigation.
I would like to have fingerprint readers on all of my keyboards.
yeah that'd be great, doing it securely is another matter though.
@dfjab what do you mean, your the only one with your fingerprint.
@@ImproveConditions not everyone is omniscient about encryption man
I have Apple Magic keyboards, and I love the fingerprint sensors. No more typing in usernames, emails and passwords!
I never understood this: Professional and 70%? I need the numpad. I can't work without the numpad.
That and no function keys either. Makes this completely useless imo
@femboy_nero Yeah, completely useless. Not like you can type with it or anything.
I m architect with 65% keyboard. I m already used to no numpad already
@@chutcentral for me that's like looking at a car without a steering wheel saying "well you can technically still drive the car tho"
Good news! Not everyone does the kind of work you do where a numpad is useful.
One thing I learned this week using a tiny borrowed laptop at work for some "programming" is that I hate tiny (less than full) keyboards. I have wondered if I could live without my numpad, the answer to that is a resounding no.
just gotta get good ;)
Separate numpad is good
Numpad and a damn page up key, ever tried using a terminal without those?!
@@NeoAcheron Other than delete, I rarely touch those 6 keys.

Back like 10 years ago or so, there was a keyboard where every key was a small OLED… Expensive as heck though.
The Optimus. Wanted that thing so bad. And I remember it from the early 2000s. Like 2004 or something.
@@1337Atreyu I was thinking around the 2010 time frame… But that’s the one.
The Optimus Maximus by Art. Lebedev Studio. Extremely cool, but extremely expensive and limited.
Always thought that by now we would have at least the F-row keys as OLED keys.
I remember seeing that keyboard and thinking I don't want those keys as my WASD keys but I would love them for a macro pad
Razer had a laptop, and keyboard too I think, where the macro keys had OLED displays in them.
Function and print screen keys are a must imo. Also i dont see the use of that tiny screen when i have a bigger screen called the monitor.
Kind of disappointing that they didn't even go into its capabilities.
Is it just limited to a picture.or a gif or something? In which case it is just a novelty.
I could see it having a niche practical benefit if you can feed it CPU/GPU usage/temps, have it pop up email or teams notifications or things like that when you just don't want it as in your face or using up screen real estate.
I really don't understand why you would not fill those massive bezels with more keys
also does the keyboard support anti ghosting or not? For such a gaming focused channel I waited until they mention it, but they didnt..
@@mastrer1000 Presumably those bezels are there to contain something.
Also there's a PGDN key, but no PGUP. and i hate that
4:31 It's GIFS not GIFS
He pronounced it right. The creator of it named it after his favorite peanut butter jiff
Unfortunately it IS 'Jiffs' but I'm fucked if I'll ever pronounce it that way 😂
With those thick bezels, they might have included the F row
Good ol Jraphics Interchange Format
I want my Function keys for gaming. Of all the features you thing keyboards need, a silly image screen seems like one that is really not needed. Someone noted a better idea below, how about a biometric sensor.
I'm confused, is the little screen to have a tiny little piece of digital art on the keyboard at all times? What is it even for again?
Would have been nice if you looked more at the software and what the screen can do.
Yes I have absolutely no idea what that screen is for other than being a gimmick. Can you make it display system info?
they dont have time for that
@@sunjames3276 Really? The screenshot AND the title are all about the LCD screen, it makes people click on it to discover what it does AND THEN THEY DON'T EVEN EXPLAIN? You can't say they have no time for that after they do all this! Also didn't they say they'd improve the depth of unboxings on ShortCircuit a while back after criticism of doing exactly this? It's getting to a point where these ShortCircuits only repeat specs you can find on a product page and little else of note.
@@redavatar thats the whole theme of this channel. showing gimmicky shit that serves no real purpose
For the "professionals" that don't use any of the function keys!👏
If you don't need dedicated keys for capital letters and special characters, you don't need them for function keys.
@@grymkaftyou don't even need dedicated keys for the letters. One is enough if you are typing in morse code
@@JakubKwak ?
@@JakubKwak no you don't. just as you hold shift+key to get capital key, you hold fn+number to get the function key for that number.
Good news! The function keys are accessible on another layer. You know, like how capitalization works with shift? I think a professional could wrap their head around that if they try a little.
I still use the Logitech G19. The screen feature was amazing, though through the dropped support, today its a bit lacking. Back in the day it was amazing. You could play CZcams Videos on it or put stuff like timers or photos. It could also display CPU usage natively. Had it been further developed, today this would be the most useful tool for PCs.
It seems you forgot the part where you mentioned what use the screen has. Because it’s seemingly none.
Nevermind about the keyboard. Did he really just call a gif for a jif?
That's how it's meant to be pronounced, not that anyone does
@@UnjustifiedRecs It's the season of jifting after all, I look forward to all my jifts at tree as well.
I know the 'inventor' tries to tell us this, but it stands for Graphic Interchange Format I don't say Jraphics ... @@UnjustifiedRecs
Dude has probably giant wide screen monitor on his desk, maybe two. But he definitely needs another tiny screen on all of his keyboards... No doubt about that.
You don't need a monitor if you already have one built into your keyboard.
Logitech g19 had a screen and it's probably my favourite non-mechanical keyboard, though I wish they'd done a version with the extra keys on a separate pad so you could move them around/remove them
After the $1800 desk, I was surprised that this is reasonably priced. Good for them!
😂
Right? I'd rather have a 4090 ha
I've been aching for another keeb video. Great vid guys.
With outer bezels that large and a target that includes professionals, there needs to be a Function Key row at the top. move stuff down to make room for it at the top
I have a Mountain keyboard, that has 4 little screens on the detachable number pad and one on a detachable thingy that fits on the top.
And you can buy Mountain DisplayPad to it that has 12 more screens.
But what is the point of having a static screen there? Im never gonna look there, it would make way more sense if it could tell me system diagnostics or something. And why not make that a volume knob and have a separate switch for the different modes on the back?
Nothing about this keyboard makes sense to me
Plouffe, we need a keyboard roundup of your favorite keyboard at different price points (maybe every $100)
That's crazy that I guessed your WPM on the money.
The knob not doing volume is a bummer, but that screen is neat. And the price is great.(Cheaper than my K12 Pro, but I like QMK too much)
A sponsored short circuit vs a non sponsored short circuit is like the difference between Gordon Ramsey vs Mary Berry judging your cooking
if they had a full (I dont know if they do) I'd maybe look into it.... I like the sound of the switches
I bought a Langtuo LT-104 for the screen and knob (the knob is programmable). I'd advise you guys to take a look at it.
Really nice that you can upload Jifs.
I don't like having a knob which stands out that much but doesn't have that much use, especially if won't move it around. It would be nice as to change volume. The price is great tho, I was expecting it to be like 150
Very useful when switching between volume>rotate>zoom>brush size>panning etc. in media creation though!
@@nit-Inundate You know what's even more usefull? A *PgUp* key.
Yay! my comment got noticed! xD
Love your videos Plouffe!
Also I'd love to see a speed trial where we actually get to see how fast you can type in perfect conditions (Maybe there is something like that somewhere that I've missed)
What's the purpose of the tiny screen? I'm too 5 head to get the use case?
i've been wanting a successor for the original blue logitech g15 for over 10 years now, the orange g15 v2 i got after i spiiled soda on the g15 and it made the play/pause controls at the screen stick, i didnt gel with it and just went back to using the g15 until it stopped working entirely, after that I got my first mechanical and i've been missing media/volume controls alot since then, but i'm never going back to a membrane board.
I used to love my Logitech G19 and wanted to get something like it that is mechanical. But i have not really seen anything in a long time. I also want it to be full-size because i really want the numpad.
Lets put a random stamp-sized screen somewhere randomly on a mechanical keyboard, and also, wouldn't it be neat if you had a volume knob the size of a washing machines dial? Lets gooo!
Very nice sound for a stock keyboard. Nothing could get me off my wooting tho it's just too good for gaming
Gotta love keyboard nerds inventing their own ways to describe the way a switch feels, ah yes, a very creamy switch indeed Plouffe
Royal Kludge makes a 87% keyboard with almost identical layout, but the screen is just black and white that shows just battery percentage, macOS/windows mode, and which device to select to when you’re switching between cable/BT/2.4ghz
And that keyboard has volume controls with the knob in addition to switch devices
How does this compare to the Epomaker rt100 in terms of typing quality? The rt100 is $60 more expensive in my country but comes with sea salt silent switches. Not sure what I should get.
Would be nice if the firmware was opensource and the keyboard had a rp2040 for the display. If they maks everything opensource it allows awesome programmers/devs to program their own functions on the display or use the display to run doom
4:30 bro really said jifs 💀
Could you make a video for really dirty environments, that are either really easy to clean while being low maintenance or that prevents food or other particulates from entering?
I still miss my old Logitech G15 with LCD display at the top where it's actually useful.
IF the keyboard / mouse had fingerprint sensor, will the computer take it as inbuilt peripheral like in the laptop or it will be added as external peripheral?
This keyboard sounds awesome!
What features can the display show? Fans, cpu, gpus, input delay, audio latency? Managed to talk about everything but the one reason people might buy this
Sacrificing PG UP for a knob is pretty questionable. pg up, pg dn, and del are essential keys for me, rather they sacked ins, end or home. otherwise not too bad.
That's a great price I was expecting a lot more expensive tbh
I've got an TH66 & I love the build quality for the price point
I thought Plouffe already owned a display
What's a jif? Jraphic Interchange Format?
what exactly is the utility of the display other than just displaying pictures? they didnt really go over that much...
I'm clearly missing something here, but where is the Page Up key? I'm all for a compact layout, but I've never seen a keyboard with a Page Down but no Page Up.
@4:30 you cannot upload peanut butter to a keyboard.
That was one of the shortest review video's I have ever watched from this channel
can the display run a digital keyboard tho
Why does he say GIFs wrong? Is it a Canadian thing?
Nope, that's how it's 'supposed' to be said, not that anyone does
Please review this old IBM Keyboard with the 122 buttons 😅
are there any full keyboards?
i love having a full keyboard with numpad, its so good for productivity... also he called it a JIF!!!
If Plouffe really likes displays on keyboards, he should get the Zoom75!
I just baught the RK68, I had a DK63, but the switch puller went missing and it wouldn't work on the old DK63. So I did what any neighborhood boogeyman would stoop too. It turns' out that the bottom left screw was stuck in the motherboard under the space bar lamilar clevice, its a crishendo hot snot, (so I used a sponge). Changed out the Intel - [McGuffin] Bluetooth powerhouse radio and installed a high class favorite green China brand Bluesmoke two feet closer on a powered USB hub, and its absolutely marvelously phenominal, simply remarkable brain mental that China.
They killed the PgUp key for something that could have been a side slide switch...
quick question...are are jifs?
I wished Logitech made a mechanical G19s.... the screen was so useful for keeping an eye on system specs. Now using a Corsair K100, missed the system information screen so much I bought a 3.5inch system monitoring screen.
My keyboard has a little black and white OLED panel that is pretty much completely useless I have a little cat gif on it.
I love it.
So what exactly is the screen used for??? I really can’t think of a use case for it, and the only thing shown is a Linus face. Which is great. But I don’t know why it exists if it can only show off a png/jog
If you love this, you'll love fluxkeyboard even more. Cant wait to purchase it
Slinging more boards with that beanie i see. well quipped for the job.
I still prefer either Logitech G19 for the screen or the easier to get replacement, Logitech Arx Control which basicly turns any Android phone into Logitech screen. Combine that with AIDA64 and you have monitoring display.
you forgot to bring up your QD-OLED gaming monitor
Weird it's missing the `~ key and all the F keys. Anothing thing i'm not the biggest fan of is how big the bezels are. Making it look super old school. Also I wonder what the Menu button is for? Screen would be cool if it was also a fingerprint reader.
Would love to see an hhkb studio unboxing/review
I bought a mechanical keyboard off of Amazon for $100 that was similar to this. I was able to get it with red switches, and it had the little display on the side with the exact same options. However, the screen that I got on my keyboard wasn’t color. I actually had to complain because the switches that I got were not lubed properly. The seller ended up giving me $50 back so that I could buy what I needed to lube my own switches.
I wonder if screens on keyboards is going to be the new thing
It took me some time to register that you don't know how to write "lube", especially since the rest of the text seems spot on. Did you possibly dictate the text?
@@owlsteadtalk to text hates me. 😂
My steelseries apex 7 pro (full size, but available tkl also) has an oled screen that i used to have random gifs on but now have it cycling my temps and stuff. Highly recommend it for reasonable price. BUT it's cherry blues if that's a deal breaker for you.
Also you can do gifs with the key RGB, but that's obviously very low resolution
Those bezels are enormous, it doesn't look any smaller than my 80%
And for professionals, where is my F row and numpad!
Not a bad price, though I will never understand the love for smaller keyboards. I just want my space and numpad with good keyswitches
With all that chin space they could have threw the knob further up and to the right so it can have a page up button. Page up button is important, insert however.....
I wish they would make something more like the Logitech G510s even though it is a basic monochrome LCD, it is far more useful than that tiny color LCD display.
@3:58 "What is that?" It could not be more simple, Luanne. You want me to show this to the cat, and have the cat tell you what it is? 'Cause the cat's going to get it!!
What program was that for the typing test thing?
Is the knob in place of the print screen button?
Now I can finally watch Oppenheimer in the way Nolan intended
Very interesting that the screen keyboard thing never caught on in the Logitech G19 days, but every new keyboard comes out with a screen on it these days. Also the G19 was one of the first Linus videos I saw back in the day.
I used to mod G19's by removing everything but the screen and adding physical Buttons as well as a 3d printed case. Basically a little screen with 12 macro keys.
Sadly the LGS software is so godawful that I gave in and bought a Beada Panel and tbh I would never want to look back.
Still have like 3 G19's in the basement and two Modded ones flying around. It is a great product but if one part of it is unuseable or damage the other one will be missed just too much. When it is seperated, you keep the display and get a new KB when you feel like it.
Very interesting that the feature never caught on in the past, but now every keyboard in the future comes with the same feature from the past.
Just saying my epomaker th80 with Black gatheron is the best tech buy i have ever done (and I have done a few), highly recommended
I really don't understand the appeal of RGB with none shine through keycaps.
i liked his hoodie
hey Plouffe, where did u get that hoodie from?
the 1 thing i don't like is the built in battery. 2-3 rechargable AA's instead would help it to last much longer. because of that if your use case relies on it being wireless it will basically become E-waste once the builtin battery wares out.
What are some use cases for having a screen in the keyboard?
Making Ploeff (spelling?) salivate?
A new adverisment strategy for parent company is the main use case
It looks "cool"
why have a mini display added to the keyboard when you can have the whole keyboard be a display with the Flux Keyboard (not out yet)
Please make a Review of the new Cherry Keyboards. 110 for a full one with any MX switch you want.
Yet another keyboard I can consider. Still leaning towards the RT100.
I ended up getting the RT100. Know a bit lower profile (and works for volume put of the box), and it has a number pad. Separate number pads are WAY too expensive for me to consider a keyboard without one.
These switches have been made by Nkk switches for YEARS.
They have a kit so you can make a full keyboard with only screen switches.
This could have been done for like 10 years
Just picked up one for 65 they are on sale for amazon prime users couldn't beat it
Where is the PGUP key?
put e-ink displays under every transparent key cap, or on top in each key cap
