- While going through my idea book, I came across what I imagined to be a bonsai tree paludarium. I had a loose idea of what I wanted, but as I imagined things, I couldn't get the idea of an island out of my head. Not just any island though. I wanted to create something that resembles a sea stack. Of course, I took some liberties, but I think the end result speaks for itself.

Back with another paludarium build! Going for a different vibe in this one, but I think it's pretty neat. I especially think it looks cool with the mist maker. Other than going slightly higher with the rock work, there's not much I would change if I did it again. What do you think? Let me know and have a great weekend!
I absolutely love bonsais so a paladurium like this one is one I fell in love with instantly!
Looks so good 😊 thanks for sharing.
Hi Tanner, what a beautiful and fanciful prehistoric looking tropical island scape! I love the hugeness of the tree trunks and the look of the other plants. When you add in the mist, stones and the fish, WOW!! I can imagine these small fish to be large sharks swimming around this extraordinary island group, out in the middle of nowhere, that you only find because a superstorm blew you in there.
I absolutely love the look of this Tanner. What a great idea and an outstanding finished product!!
You are such an amazing artist, with great vision, and an understanding of how to use a minimal amount of various pieces to produce your vision! BRAVO!!!
God bless and thanks again for sharing with us, your viewers.
Love it! This island look is crying out for some crabs, imo. I didn't know you could grow bonsai like this either, so I'll be thinking about the possibilities for sure.
Absolutely epic. Not sure about the floating plants and the mist maker (personally I think it makes it look more mountainous than sea spire-y but still amazing
This guy is like the Bob Ross of terrarium building. Very inspiring and peaceful to watch
i literally said this exact thing on another one of his videos!
bob moss, perhaps
Where are the bodies👀
@@freudsghostgood one
I agree with you 100%. He is therapeutic like Bob Ross. And I’m an artist too so I know him.
I’ll be interested to see an update on this one. I’d always been told ginseng ficus liked moist substrate but not standing water. I love how this one looks Tanner!
Standing water is not the same as wet soil. Most plants don't mind their tap roots being in pure water, it's only when you have damp/soaked soil that the rot starts.
@@benjif2424 Interesting. Do u know the reason behind it? I thought that its due to the lack of oxygen that cause the roots to rot - standing water will be the same as wet soil (though in this case, there's a water aerator present)
@@cnaizhen pure water lets oxygen still get to the roots, wet soil compacts and rots when wet all the time
@@kokunst1634 hmm, i recall that prolong period of vegetable roots being submerged in water on hydroponics setup leads to root rot as well (but typically it will be grown fully and harvested before that happens). Guess different plants react differently.
Thanks for explaining!
@@cnaizhen it's because the water in hydroponic slowly get contaminated by organic matters and fertilizer. Moreover they usually aren't well aerated despite always moving, causing toxicity to build up. With well-filtered water and proper aeration, along with healthy bacteria culture and good nitrogen cycle, it should be okay imo.
I definitely agree on the mist, it gives it a mystic floating island feel that brings everything together. Love it!
because it feels like you are in the clouds
I've watched you evolve from a humble terrarium enthusiast to having an entire lair of beautifully designed works of art! Keep up the good work.
Hey, I have a project idea that I think you might like. I've been getting into growing Carnivorous Plants presently and thought a setup with some smaller Carnivorous Plants would look really cool. Something with Australian pitcher plants and pygmy sundews would allow for a smaller setup. I personally have both and they look amazing. Keep up the awesome work!
Commenting in support of this idea!
Bump, bump, bump it up
Very into this
Sounds great :)
Its not good for a tank you can make a terrarium for them but the RO water is not good for the submersed plant and fishes for different reasons
Perfect timing for a video about bonsai trees! I asked for a bonsai tree for christmas, I hope I get one. I haven't watched the video yet but i'm sure it is awesome, watching now!
I mean, this is not bonsai 101, but it should work as an alternative way to keep some of them. Good luck with yours if you get one!
@@SerpaDesign Thank you! I have watched the video, this is not an alternative way to way to keep them, this is the best way to keep them! 😅 beautiful result!
@@HomemadeEcosystems Be cautious, overwatering is the #1 problem with bonsai! Depending on what you get. The ginseng SerpaDesign got were fantastic because they're very tolerant of getting too wet or too dry! Super excited for you embarking on a bonsai keeping journey, I am as well! :D
@@xxx-ie9ic Thank you i wil do my research!
@@SerpaDesign I think this may be one of your best designs yet.
Makes me want to get out my old Mists of Avalon and re-read.
Thank you, and Blessings for this holiday season.
You are like the Bob Ross of the Build!! Love how you create nature indoors with your landscapes. Creating a natural world for all your inhabitants. BRAVO!!!
he's bob moss
This man just single-handedly married two of my favorite hobbies, and he did it WELL. Bravo on another incredible setup! I love how you keep stretching yourself in areas that you may not be comfortable with yet. You're an example to all of us! 🌱
One of my fav setups that you've done. Every element is a pet "element" (Bonsai, Dragon-stone). Minimalist but complicated. Inspiring. Great choice of stock as well.
I'm a big fan of mist and fog. Obscurity brings out a whole new level of quality for me, personally, as a guy from a rainforest state.
It would be really cool if you could do something similar with a Banyan tree. You can even do the air roots and everything. They arent hard to do. It would be beautiful!
That looks amazingly beautiful.
As always, a very cool build. Can't wait for the first update, to see how the trees are liking their new home. I wasn't sure at first, but that mist over the water ended up being a favorite feature for me.
Add a crawfish as a watermonster. Would be awesome with rocks/mist/dripping.
I love this built and especially the the little cave under water that you created.
I've never thought about bonsai in riparium setting before, I'm interested to see how they do. Emerald eye rasboras are one of my new favorite fish so it's great to see them in this setup. Great video, Tanner. Take care.
been done long ago
My favorite set ups- fire belly toad Paludarium, bonsai tree island paludarium, sunken ship aquarium, the 600 gallon vivarium ,the temperate forest creek runoff vivarium and the biorb stream water fall terrarium.
This is definitely one of my favorites, I keep coming back to rewatch it!
I have really been loving natural looking setups lately
This is the exact setup I asked for, a couple of months ago, and you did it! (not necessarily that you saw the comment or anything like that, but still) The only thing I would change, is to use neon tetras, but only because they are my favourites 😀 So awesome, it looks fantastic and you got my inspired to actually try this myself now. Thank you!
I love how much you love and respect nature.
What an amazing look. It looks like one island in the distant. Perfect
Weĺl done. Perfectionist
Never saw a mistmaker before. That looks enchanted.😊
Tanner, I think this is my favorite, ever! Yes the mist maker takes it right over the top, to magical.
This is one of my favorite setups that you've done. The design with the ginseng bonsai is truly awesome.
This is one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen in my life. You've inspired me!
I'm obsessed with this one! Definitely my favorite build so far. Can't wait to see an update on it
Blown away. Over the top... Breath taking!
Absolutely gorgeous! I love the chunky roots and the bold underwater scaping. The atomizer spilling over the front of the tank is a really cool bonus I didn't expect!
I love the whole look! I love the Bonsai Trees! I love the feel of isolation. I love the fog! It's so beautiful! Just perfect!!!!
The artistry, aesthetics and quality of your art/work is fantastic.
As always Tanner you have blown my mind! You are truly a Master of your craft and a constant inspiration to push myself in my own builds! Thank you for all you do and the time you take to share your art with us!
Hi Tanner
I especially love this setup! I've always enjoyed Ficus plants and especially bonsai. Plus, I really like the contrast between the whites sand and the rocks. Gorgeous! Thank you for sharing.
I really like your use of the word “paramount.”
My favorite is always the oak creeping fig. Its so cute
This is one of my favorites so far. So gorgeous!
I think this one turned out awesome! I love how the different textures of the plants work together. Keep it up SerpaDesign!
All your projects are so amazing. I love seeing your skill and how you know exactly what to do to make it beautiful. I’ve been so inspired by you and your builds, so I’ve tried building my own aquariums and setups. I’ve failed more than succeeded, but that’s part of the learning process. Thank you for inspiring me!
This paludarium is just beautiful! The mist maker just works for this setup. Like it needs to be there. I love Beta’s and have been contemplating getting another one. Seeing this has inspired me to try and something like this for them! Thank you! ❤️
Love the use of bonsai trees would love to see them more in vivariums/terrariums.
I really appreciate how you label everything you use; I want to do a project like this in the upcoming months as a gift (on a much smaller scale) and your videos are really helping set me up for success!
I actually have a pretty mature ginseng bonsai just sitting in a pot on my windowsill. Amazing to think I could do something like this with it! Thanks for teaching me something new.
Your attention to details in impeccable! Beautiful!!
I really enjoyed this build! The mist-maker added a really cool vibe to the overall aesthetic. Very cool!
Happy holidays!
I love your work. Thank you. I have rewatched videos over and over!
Omg every single time i think of trying out a new species you get them before i can. It happened with the danio tinwini and now with the emerald eyes
Most beautiful tank you’ve made in my opinion!
i have become addicted to your videos, i can't wait to try to make something for myself
This is absolutely gorgeous!!! I love it! This is definitely one of my faves.
Looks awesome!
For the fish I was initially thinking chili rasboras and clown killies for their size and colors, but this is perfect. They look like little tarpons and so match the scale!
As you said Tanner this one’s AWESOME. I always love the Cryptanthus.
Such a beautiful piece! Plants + water +fish =tranquility.
You never disappoint, I melted watching this build. Absolutely gorgeous.
Beautiful. Peaceful. Love it
Looks great! Love the step by step tutorials and the Oregon coast rock inspiration
This has to be my all time favorite build. Love it.
beautiful tank! Love the design, looks like a dreamy island scape ~
Just wow! That is such a unique design, I didn’t know that bonsai trees came like those. Incredible, I can’t wait to see what it looks like in 6-12 months!
Wow Tanner, this might be my favourite piece you’ve done yet!!!
This one came together so beautifully, awesome work!
you just gave my day the creative spark that sparks my highest self. What you are doing is having such an impact. So positive and powerfully inspiring. Hope your soul feels the appreciation and celebrates! Thank you!!!!
this is absolutely stunning and mesmerizing! I love the tranquility of the whole scape and the bonzai's are such a great thing to look at and see grow over the years.
:D
I absolutely loved it, the mist was the perfect touch !!!
that mist maker really tied it all together wonderfully
That looks amazing I can watch these builds all day it’s inspiring me to build one myself eventually
Gorgeous well balanced setup, Tanner, you've outdone yourself again. Dragon stone with the mist adds a hint of Skull Island mystery to it.
Dude, you never cease to amaze.
You have inspired me so much, because of you I have made 35 terrariums for my loved ones for Christmas and it has helped to pull me out of my funk, thank you so much for what you do!!
Wow, what a peaceful build. Thanks. That really made my morning.
Your imagination to create new scapes with each tank is amazing to me. Showing the " How to's " along with the few " nots " is really helpful. You've given me All kinds of ideas ! :~)
So gorgeous and naturalistic!!!
I love that there is a bunch of different bonsai trees out there. So cool! I the stone you chose for it in this one.
Wow! You make me really want to get back into this- thank you for such an amazing project that turned out fantastically!
thank You, Thank You, ThAnK YoU, THANK YOU for recording how to make these, I plan on making a few of these for my home- I’ve been wanting to do something more than just having various plants throughout my home; I looooove anything that looks like it’s on a miniature scale but has natural elements like plants & I really appreciate that you show how and what to do to keep the plants healthy & what complementary living beings should be added to your gorgeous creations, that are beneficial for the mini-environments you designed.
This is def one of my fav designs now!!! Looks like it’s from Bali or somewhere like that!! SICK!!
Very cool idea! I love Emerald Eye Raspboras they school very well, are tolerant of other species and have great coloring on the eyes. Perfect for a smaller aquarium that want to keep a sense of scale
Wow that’s beautiful. Awesome work like always.
I adore bonsai over rock and so I knew I'd love this from you placed the first stone!
You never cease to amaze me! Your creativity & attention to detail is off the charts!
i love the new layout of your videos, is nice to have you in your studio with all the artworks behind !
i think this has to be one of my new favorites. You should definitely continue to play around with bonsai's!
Great job, this has been one of my more favorite builds of your for a while
I think this is one of my favorite builds. Knocked it out the park as usual man. Fantastic
You Tanner are a youtube genius. Nice job drawing in a whole new audience to your channel with the bonsai keyword. Love your videos. I still can't believe you haven't done a vampire crab enclosure yet. If you are interested I know where you can get captive bred crabs. 4 of mine had babies this fall. Let me know. Congrats on a million subs!
Omg very nice. I’ve seen the full build of this one that AntScapes did on his channel. ❤️🐜🐜🐜🐜
May I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, and Thankyou for all your videos over the past year... xxx
I’ve actually been wondering when Tanner might make a Bonsai setup! This is more spectacular than I could ever come up with, he always does such a great job!! 👏
Love it! It feels like a mystical island hidden from the world.
I love all your palidariums, but man this one is something special. I love the atomizer and the whole scale of the thing. I really wanna make one of these of my own.
Love the aesthetic of this build! Well done as always.
This was one of you best builds. I love it! Beautiful!
MD and you posting on the same day 🤩 beautiful
Good job another beautiful tank I really enjoyed this one everything fits together so perfectly
Your builds are all so dope, cant stop watching.
Woooow! So cool about scaling the hard scape!
I LOVE it! Thanks for sharing the inspiration! Great work as always.
Wonderful work thanks for the comfort of your show
I love the setup. Very picturesque
Absolutely amazing to see, what you create!
