Waste Water Drainage for Your Van with Victron Cerbo GX

- Manual waste taps are out, 12v ball valve operated taps are in. And we've made it work with the Victron Cerbo GX relay switch to include some level of automation! Nerdy, yep - essential? We think so.
If you don't have a Victron Cerbo GX, almost everything in the video is still relevant. You can simply use a on/off 12v switch in place of the Cerbo in your campervan. But we have one, so set it up to make use of the relay module.

If you've come this far into the description, bravo. You may notice in the video we feature two valves; did you notice this? Essentially the first valve was kaput, we think it must have broken in transit. So we got a replacement in stainless steel - and it worked a treat.

Hi Rich, if you cut back the copper tube that sticks below the van skirt, you should be able to push your black/red waste tank under and cut out the need for the grey waste tube

That grey tank dump valve looks pretty small for European rvs. Here is the US usually is 1.5 inch, yours looks like 1 in? I wonder do they clog often?
It’s 3/4- so even smaller. I matched it to the thread on my water tank so it’s no smaller than what was on the tank. It hasn’t clogged yet 🤞
brilliant video thanks, any thoughts on how it will perform when it gets really cold in the uk - we have had -10deg C in Scotland - would you expect the ball valve to still operate? Thanks
Thank you 😊. So the stainless valve says it is operable in ambient temperature from -10deg c to 40 deg c. But this counts on the flow medium (the grey waste) being a minimum of 0 degrees and a maximum of 90 degrees.
So I am planning on adding some winterisation to the tank and the outlet. I've an idea around using a tank blanket for the medium and some self regulating cable around the outlet - but will update on this as we do it. It's a great point and a big consideration for underslung tanks.

Hi, wondering if I need to take 12v to the relay. Or will this spit out enough control voltage to open and close the ball valve?
Because when I hook the valve up directly to the relay, it doesn’t open the valve
Hey. Yes you need to supply 12v to the common terminal. The relay is effectively just a switch that cuts or switches on the power.
does it come with 2 wires or 3 wires? I saw some versions with 3 where you need to power the 3rd wire for closing the valve.
The version used here is 2 wires. So this means when de-energized the valve shuts automatically.
Nice job! I have a question. I saw that your VRM-menu shows "remote console". How did you add that menu point? I cant find it on my VRM. Best. Silvano
Thank you, so in your GX device if you navigate to settings and go to remote console you should see and option to enable on VRM. Hope this helps 😊
@WanderbusAdventures Thanks, but unfortunately it does not help. That setting is "on" and I stilI do not get the "remote console" listed in the VRM menu. Any ideas as to what might be wrong? Best regards, Silvano

@WanderbusAdventures Yes, I did. As it did not show a result, I also rebooted the Cerbo by taking off its power cable for 20 sec. Still no result. I am puzzled.

Obviously because these can use 8 amp
I will need a relay or ssr
Is this how to do it ..Example
Positive from fuse panel to relay in the cerbo label (com )
Then out the cerbo (normally open ) to the actual relay device
Then the other end of relay to the heater power
Is this correct

Hey. I’m unsure what you’re trying to do with the diesel heater but assuming you just want to cut power to it when it’s warm, power when it’s cold. And then you’ll manually switch it on. I’m not sure I’ve understood this but working on this assumption (I’m not sure I’d do this myself but not party to your reasoning or setup).
If the above is right then yes. Fuse box to com - NO to your trigger on the relay. You can then wire from the dedicated relay to your diesel heater.
@@WanderbusAdventures sorry buddy but yea when I put more thought into it I realised the cerbo can’t turn a diesel heater on 😂 the heater display needs to do that . All the cerbo could do would send it power lol the cerbo could turn a oil radiator on in the van tho set on temps that’s a idea while the van is on the drive in the winter if ever drops below freezing . It’s ok buddy I’m just playing with different ideas ! The cerbo is brilliant

I’m not sure if you use the mopeka sensor for your fresh and grey tank or the senders buddy
I have them on my motorhome control panel
But I’m wanting to get away from the old set up
I’m basically using everything Victron too
So was thinking of using the sensors for the water tanks then connect to the cerbo
Ah makes a lot of sense. So I used resistive wired senders for my tanks and wired them directly to the cerbo. I can monitor it on the cerbo then and can even set it to empty the tank automatically. Do you know what sort of senders are in your tanks? If they’re wired there’s a good chance it’ll work with the cerbos inputs.

I have tank levels on the fresh and grey tho
But I have seen the wiring and they come in 5 wires so each different level
Otherwise I would have piggy backed to the cerbo
But …. Being 5 wires seems more difficult to do
