    I found Dave’s replacement hat!!
A “cowboy style hard hat” I’ll be happy to sponsor the purchase as I want him to be as safe as possible. As a very distant second to the safety aspects, think of all the space for for channel sponsor advertising on such a hat

Ventrac trenching tool rocks. Sure makes putting water and electric lines in a whole lot easier. Good mouse catch for Izzy. Hope she didn't bring it into the shop to play with it before the final death bite. My cats bring them in and then the darn things get away!! Also enjoy Tim and Dave interacting together while they work. Great entertainment. Thanks for the video

    You
    1) didn’t cut into any wires
    2) didn’t bust any water lines and 3) turned Dave’s 10 gallon hat into a pancake.
I would call that a TTWT “hat trick”. 😂

The telephone network interface (NI), has lightning protection componants (protectors) to prevent electrical surges from entering the house from the outside. If the house takes a direct hit the protection will also stop the surge from leavine through the phone lines, at least in theory. The protectors send the electricity to ground and that's why the phone box is grounded. As far as the black cable, most buried phone cable will have pictures of little phones on it. Phone Co. wire will have little phones and footage markings. Just FYI. Nice video Tim & Christy that was a fun one!

  • @jamisoncurtis2387
    @jamisoncurtis2387 Před 9 dny

One thing I can remember about the call before you dig is the markings give you a general idea where underground utilities could be. There was times we found they were a few feet off, that specific time a ground wire got taken out plowing in new phone line. So long ago from a summer job in 97. Haven’t done much of that summer work since dads retired from it.
His big lesson with the backhoe was going slow and easy works best that some people that just go full throttle digging. He’d tell stories of having to get in a backhoe after the original guy hit a gas line and fix the mistake.
Thought I posted in another TTWT video about dad buying an older John Deere backhoe. While he’s recovering in a rehab home after losing all his toes I tell him about the used backhoe I saw at a dealer and how many memories on a machine like that over the phone. After he got off the phone with me he was on the phone with the dealer and his bank then calls me back and says he’s a backhoe owner now. Didn’t think he was going to do that cause of med situation. No wife and love for JD backhoe prevailed.
He’s convinced that it’s the exact same backhoe he operated in the 70’s by recognizing certain welds and other repairs he done to the machine he operated. Thought strange remembering welds from lil over 40 yrs. Myself I’d prefer paper trail if the company he worked for still had files on equipment with the serial numbers. If dad is right then he bought the very 1st backhoe I got to move levers and dig with. He liked doing that with lil kids sit up on the backhoe with him and show how it all worked, mom snapped pics us lil kids with dad digging. Over the years pics were lost. Fun pic I recently made was the 1025r TLB along with older 410 JD that I called Big Buck Little Buck. Posted that on FB in the groups for 1 series and classic green.

@@TractorTimewithTimlike mentioned before the guys that did the locating for us, a lot of time accurate there were also few times few feet off. That was one of dads lessons of dig carefully even if your a foot or two away from the markings. Also was nice the phone companies we worked for plowing in new line had maps of what was already in the ground and expected depth. That summer we were plowing in the new bigger cables, think lots of people were getting extra lines back then for home internet.
Few months ago doing a google search on locators and how much they cost. Some are spendy but curious possible future episode of affordable options for those that want a locator of their own. Either to double check the 811 or mainly to check areas where 811 wouldn’t do. Few years but in a previous video thought the 811 guy was saying they really only do certain areas.

My brother lives beside me and has a tractor too so we’ve used his bucket to load the backhoe dirt into and then he dumps it somewhere else….I’ve also tried unclipping my own bucket and loading the dirt in it and then re clipping to take it to dump but it’s not nearly as nice because you have to move the backhoe and it’s cumbersome with the bucket full of dirt but it does work….

Seeing Tim make the mistake of running Daves hat over makes me feel a little better about my first real oopsie yesterday, i caught an out of use light pole in the yard with just the corner of my bucket while backing up, the base was rotted and instantly began falling towards me. By stroke of luck, i had my ROPS down which caught the pole instead of directing it right at my head.

Dig Safe usually follows the easy to find long cable runs. Close to a junction box with home made extensions are harder to find. Use a engine lift or spare tire with chain over the top to pull the roots verticially in tight spaces.

You have a “country” electric service. Meaning you have 2 ground rods a bare ground wire between them and then up the little pvc pipe to your house panel. Your old house had a “city” service. 1 ground rod and then a bonding wire to your water service.

I hate to tell you now that you probably have it dug in and backfilled but they make danger and water line tape to go in the trenches once you are ready to backfill. It makes it easy to dig in the future. Well you needed the digging excitement any way. LOL!

  • @scottsoper

While it might of been a bit scary at times with the water and electric all right there; those machines saved a lot of work!!! I am not sure that hacking around with an axe and shovel trying to get that stomp out, would of been any safer, just take longer and wear one out!!! I liked that Vinny got to use two tools: showing how fast the tool can get changed! Despite the lack of reach, that backhoe is very useful!
Your going to have to go back and help some more on the farm or you will never get your machines back!!!

My building has a water spigot just outside from the walk door. Last winter it started leaking and we hired a guy with a small excavator. When he found the water line it looked as though it was never glued. There is a valve just inside the building where they ran water into the building which are capped. So when he was ready to glue up the spigot again i had a brand new one which opens and closes much easier. That pipe has been in the ground for over 30 years but didn't leak all those years is hard to believe.
