- In this video we take a full walk around tour of the 2021 Chevy Colorado Z71 in Cherry Red Tintcoat. The Colorado is relatively unchanged from the 2015 model year when it debuted, however, there have been a few changes over the years which have helped this truck stay somewhat relevant. In this video we discuss the changes for the 2021 model year including several color, trim, and options changes.

Here in Philippines I have colorado and trailblazer. strong and powerful engine with great offroad performance.
kabayan what year is your Colorado? is it matic? how many mileage now on the Odometer?
I currently have a trailblazer and looking at getting a colorado nearly the same as this one
People dont seem to get that this isn't intended to be the top of the line luxury truck, this is supposed to be a midsize truck that a family dude on a budget could afford. I understand it's missing features that it should have for that price, but if you test drive this thing and I have you cant help but like it.
That's awesome! I'm rolling in a 2006, 5 cylinder, extended cab.
I just parked my 04 5cyl extended cab. Sold it a month later.
Just bought the same exact one. Great review.
Me too - today! Very excited about it
You didn’t mention that there is storage under the back seats. My 2016 has storage there and it is useful to carry small items or you can raise the seat bottoms up and more storage for a suitcase or other large items.
Top notch video Sir ! These are GM's cash cows like the full-size P/u trucks and SUV's ! CHEERS ..
I love that they didn't change them that much. 2015 and up models are just awesome the way they are. I own a 2019 and put led lights on the rear and love it. Beautiful trucks for sure 👍
Just ordered almost the same truck ! My third Colorado !! Love em !! Mines 57k CDN auto start heated everything, all safety sensors bed liner Bose speakers , fully loaded id say ! Hard top Tonal cover
May I know what trim level did you choose? Thanks!
@@BengLang84 z71
Beautiful Truck
Does it have any kind of underbody protection?
Something you didn't mention but is important. The key is a key and not that stupid all in one key and fob garbage. Depending on what you do for work and so on, my silverado has a key like this truck does. It's great because if at an accident scene, I can leave the truck running and warning lights flashing but, I can lock it with the fob that is with me. ..... My phone also doesnt fit in the wireless charger but, my phone doesn't have that anyways lol. ..... On the seat, i think it is a 6 way power seat, also back is powered, that lever is the lumbar. ..... Long bed would be the model I get and with a diesel. ..... Good video overall. Thanks for getting this to us :-)
what does GM down grade on the front brakes? i got a 2020. and all the colorados i saw has big 4piston callipers this one seems to have idk 2? wow lame
Nice job !
Thanks!
Just bought a 2021 and it was 41k in Colorado, I'm curious on where this truck is located.
Nice looking pick-up!
Is drop in bedliner still an option for chevy or is the spray the standard they use now?
Drop in are available as an accessory for most trucks but I don't see any coming in from the factory like that.
What's the measurements of the steps for running boards
Does the front passenger have power lumbar support also? Was not listed on window sticker.
I believe the front seat has 4 way power, manual recline, but no lumbar adjustment.
For almost 40000.00 you don't get a bedliner, push button start, or a power rear center window. smh
2 of the 3 items are not available at all on the Colorado. I agree that it should have push button start by now.
Junk....over priced junk.....plastic bumper also....no metal :)
Why is push button start so important?
tomsriv keys are very large
Agreed over priced.
It looks cool but at that price needs far more features like push button start, and power rear center window would be nice, not absolutely needed but still cmon man.
I have a 2018 Chevy Colorado Cajun red Z71 love my truck 40,000 mile on. the Cajun red and the Cherry red look the same to me
I believe there are differences between them. What struck me when I first saw Cherry Red was the lack of any sort of pinkish tint to the color. This is a deep blood red metallic paint. If you get the chance to see them side by side I would check it out.
Nice truck but my configuration was $41,000 Good lord!! the little S-10 became a rich man's truck!!
I prefer a black bow tie on the tailgate
Is it the same transmission that’s in the 2017 it had a lot of issues with this transmission and how about the rear axle I’ve had a lot of problems with the rear axle I own the 2017 it’s in the shop once a year with transmission and rear axle problems
supposedly they came out with a new transmission solution on the 2019 models and so on so they should be better, but only time will tell
I love my 2018 Colorado, and my lease is coming to an end soon, im very tempted to upgrade now.
I got a 2017 z71 just a few days ago (CZcams algo gave me this vid) and am wondering what is the main difference between 2017 and now? I couldn’t really find anything myself (also not the biggest auto guy). Thanks!
I would take a look at the 2017/18/19/20/21 press releases for the Colorado which should give you an idea of changes from year to year.
@@JustinKelly thank you!
I don’t get why pick ups don’t come with the sprayed on bed liner as a standard option. I think people prefer that more than the plastic or carpet ones
Some packages do on the Silverado but I believe there are still people out there that dont want it.
If you want to bolt something in, like brackets, or 5th wheel you don't want that mess to deal with.
I dont want a bedliner in mine. I never use it
@@tomsriv you can do a spray on liner with a 5th wheel see it all the time on the GMCs
It cost more money they are cheap.
Just ordered one of these! I'm excited to finally own a truck...a Chevy truck. Huge upgrade from a Ford Fuckedus.
Nice job.. i think the front of the GMC canyon looks way better though..
Does the unit have Navigation built into the 8" screen?
Not all 8" screens have built in nav but it is optional
My cat was legit watching this
Nice review. Do the front seats have lumbar heating?
Yes the bottom and back have heating elements in the seats
Does the new Colorado have push button start available ?
No
My Dream Truck!!!! ❤❤❤
Wow
Nopp
Poo guu
No that’s me
Ok
how about showing the removal of the tailgate for the 2021 Colorado, it looks a lot different then the 2017....
Very solid powertrain? Did the dealer tell you that? Many who own gm say the 8 speed transmission is a lemon
Just given the fact I do not see many Colorado's coming into service for powertrain issues.
Did they fix the weak frame issues?
I think your talking about a Toyota
Thats the Silverado... wax coated frame about as thick as a credit card
thans for your video from my own car video and photo..
The new grill 2021....how exciting....open up the doors and it's a 2015 inside :)
Yes exactly...
I’ve got a 2015 Z71... that color screen between the gauges used to be a smaller black and white screen. And the main radio touchscreen and software is completely different. I also don’t have wireless charging. Those interior tech upgrades came after the 2015 model. Rest is the same.
@@farmerbak3r Yes that sounds correct. I believe most changes occurred in the 2018 and 2019 model years.
i can just tell everyone my 2016 is a 2021, i bet they still have the same silver too. 40 grand and manual seatbacks, even the keyfob hasnt changed !!!!!
key fob, no push button?
I could get a Canyon Denali for about 4 grand more. I've thought about the chevy, but for the small price difference it makes no sense. I'm just surprised the GMC doesn't sell better. Model to model they are about $1000 apart. Does that make or break the purchase on a 40k truck?
I wouldn't think so. I believe GMC dealers are not as common as Chevy dealers which might also play a role. At one point my immediate area had four Chevy dealers and two GMC but it has since been reduced to three Chevy.
I have a 2016 Colorado where the overall design is almost the same as the 2021. Only major difference is the trany (6 speed to 8 speed). A good vehicle and easy to maneuver if one does not need a larger truck. Too pricy though. However, there is one major ergonomic design flaw in all the similar yearly model designs. That is the location of the drive train control knob. It is located in a very vulnerable location at the lower left corner of the dash, along side the light control. It has a high susceptibility to be bumped by one's leg or knee when entering or exiting the cab. It moves from 2-wheel to 4-wheel Hi with little force provided by the leg or knee. It is easy to be unaware of this knob movement and also the view of the knob is blocked by most of the positions of the steering wheel unless it is all the way up. If this occurs in the summer time and one is doing high speed on a smooth surface (highway) you have the risk of deteriorated reliability of the drive train. Not good. Put both the light control and the drive train knobs in the middle bottom of the dash where the little cup indent is located. The cup indentation is useless for anything but maybe some loose change and not that very well. Put them with the other feature functional controls that are located there.
Do the rear seats fold flat?
Yes I believe they do fold down
Nice~
Such a beautiful truck, the best looking mid size truck out there right now. But I honestly wished GM just did away with the extremely antiquated ignition key. Like who does that nowadays? Even my '19 C7 Corvette has a key fob and push button start. I've heard issues of keys being stuck in the ignition in the earlier models. That's my only worry about this otherwise bad ass truck. I'm still buying one though so it's barely a deal breaker for me. Thanks very much for this very informative video!
Agree - really like the Colorado, but some minor details would put it in an even better standing.
I know this comment is over a year old, but there many people who like keyed ignitions, like myself. I hate push button start.
I don't like that panel on the bottom of the front. It's too low. I wonder if that can be removed.
I believe so. The ZR2 doesn't have one like that or at all.
Nice!💋
is the spray on bed liner done at the factory or dealer
Factory
@@JustinKelly thanks I was wondering about that because I am thinking about getting a colorado in a few months
@@bdarney724 I would definitely recommend getting the factory one. It seems like better quality compared to the spray in we get done plus the overspray can get everywhere on the paint and if not carefully removed can cause swirls in the paint if removed haphazardly.
I love the push button start, but car makers are moving away from this option. Why, because someone with a little knowledge can capture your signal and reproduce it by the time you walk in the store and drive off with your vehicle!
Car makers are definitely not moving away from push button start. If anything, more and more cars are using this technology.
They ain't gonna add led, less money for them 😂. Also, can I get one of the new tailgates and put it on my 2015 Colorado?
I assume the tailgate will fit but you'd need to make sure the paint will match.
what a nice truck!

I have a 2017 z71 Colorado and I like it better than the 21
7:51 What is the slot above 4x4 switch?
Ive heard that is for cards
Pretty sure that's for the trailer brake if you get that option.
I have questions?
Chevy Colorado 2021 made manual transmission
It used to be available in manual with the 4 cylinder but it looks like it is not available anymore.
Looks nice but I still love my 2004 Colorado. I think the old Colorados look better. 🤷🏻♀️
Cheby needs to get busy with a major redesign
It still retains the old GM Door Chime. The 2021 Chevy Tahoe got a new door chime sound.
Just brought the 2021 LT... I was so excited to get it. Now I really HATE I Brought It
Ouch! I'm sorry to hear that...What are your major issues?
@@stevena3333 well it was a lot to pay for and nothing really exciting. I just had the running steps added. 400 dollars. Next week i have to have the bed sprayed. I have Lt version. I was not aware i was not getting the back up signal that beep if you get to close. I really miss this feature. I wish it was some way i could add this without paying a fortune. The underside where my steps are ... I can't explain how ugly it looks. You have to see to know what i am talking about. The drivers DIC... Very limited. Could have at least showed tire pressure in each tire. Are oil change time. To much money for a hull. No light in glove box. I am going to buy some kind of light and velcro it inside glove box...how sad. I could go on and own. To much plastic for a front fender.....
@@remonalee8205 that really sucks. I hope after all your Mods you can grow to love it. Hopefully you can at least use it for what you need it to do. If not, maybe see what you can get for it and cut your loses. Like a bad investment. I felt the same way as you after I got talked into buying a mustang convertible. The car was amazing, but I was so satisfied after I traded it in and bought a two door base wrangler instead. It had none of the features that the mustang did, but it just felt right. Good luck
What is that huge blank in the center of buttons under the screen? You seem just skipped that part. Is it a dead button or something? Why would Chevy leave a dead button in such an obvious location?
I believe that space has always been there on the Colorado. Not sure why Chevy did that but nothing I have seen uses that space.
@@JustinKelly Base and WT have the power button in that spot
@@diroval Oh yes the 7" screen does have a different layout. The entire trim bezel is a little different though.
I look on Craigslist and Facebook a lot its unbelievable how many of these trucks have frame issues even ones that r not that old like 2008 or even newer.
This generation was all new in 2015
Ther not even frames they're glorified unibodys & the Silverados are the worse my 2013 has more rust than my 2004
Does it have heated seats?
Yes!
Did you forget the storage compartment under the rear seat or did Chevy eliminate it?
I believe it is still there!
I have a 2016 Colorado Lt 4 in hot red That I love. 2016 Has the six speed tranny that I am glad about. I heard that the 8 speed tranny had problems. I hope they got the kinks out. I love my truck. My only complain { little one } is that the rear view mirror is too big. Blocks vision alittle Other wise Love my truck. STAY WELL & SAFE FRANKIE LONG ISLAND. MILLENIUM CHEVY in NASSAU is a good dealership
Some Chrome like on door handles, window panels should be there for customer to choose from. It increase the appeal.
Never understood why GM did away with the best domestic engine ever. 3.8/6cyl.
wow
Damn 👀
Good vehicle as long as you dump it before 20,000 miles
Yeah I dumped my 18 before 12k miles. The transmission and or torque converter made for some awful shifting in that 8 speed. If gm would fix that and get rid of the ugly ass rake and big ole spare hanging down in the back it would be something to reconsider.
A Key and no LEDs wtf? why are they so far behind?
I have always like the Colorado/Canyon since they came out however what you get for the price is a joke. I bought an 18 SLT Sierra fully loaded Texas Edition and this dec will be 2 years that I have had it. For shits n giggles I went on the GM website and built and priced out a 21 Canyon and it priced out about $42k for a midsize for the options I wanted. When I bought my 18 sierra I got 12k off in rebates plus 1K for gm finance plus employee pricing (auto tech for gmc ) sticker on my truck was $55k I got it for $38k. I am so happy I got the 18 with the 19s came out I do not like the new generation at all.
Still a key ignition start in 2021.? Even the outdated old tacoma has a button start. Sad.
Did they fix it so it dont rust to the ground after 3 years
That hasn't been a problem since 2014 when the new silverados came out
The Silverados are rusting away on the climate controlled showroom floor
They went backwards who in the world told them that front facia was a better look ?😄
Yeah its not my favorite 😅
Change for the sake of change. Interior is where they sorely need a refresh.
they went backwards on everything. all their new vehicals are ugly just look at the silverao 1500/2500 and the tahoe
Previous generation is a much better look then current model
The rims look like the Tacoma 2019 sport model lol. Also the back engravement seems like they are copying the Tacoma sells point.
You had said the tire size was 225/65/R17 I do not think so. I believe the tire size for the seventeens are 255 /65/R17
Thank You
The Vermonter
Yes I believe that is correct. I may have misspoke.
@@JustinKelly thank you 🇺🇲👍
The changes look great, but what about the 8 speed transmission....BUYER BEWARE!!
Is it new for this year?
The headlights look the same as before
The moder year eh
I traded in a 2018 Z71 crew cab that I bought new for a 2020 Ranger FX4 Lariat that I also bought new. The Ranger has a better engine and suspension in my opinion. The Colorado has a better 4wd system with the auto feature being very handy in bad weather and despite only having a mechanical rear locker I never got stuck anywhere. I prefer the rangers interior as the Colorado looks slightly more dated. Both have had issues, the rear differential on the Colorado needed to be rebuilt within 800 miles due to a factory defect and then went back again because the dealership assembled it wrong. The Ranger is currently clunking when coming to a stop and taking off and if shutting sometimes when letting off the gas. It has 5000 miles and I have an appointment at the dealership in a couple days.
Its good to hear experiences with both in normal usage.
I have a 2019 nothing other then the grill changed. Sucks that the charging pad was left there and not put into to center armrest
Front Bumper, Grille, Tailgate. Wheels, and a few colors/minor tweaks (Like Cherry Red) are different from 2020 and prior models.
But it looks the same
there is no point in buying new anymore, spend 40k to turn around and lose 15-20 k the next week if you try and trade it in! save your money buy a used !
Yes sir!!!
38,000?? Might as well get a full size silverado!
LOL you've introduced this Colorado in this video at least three or four times. We get it it's a Chevy Colorado LOL
Well. In KS, these are way cheaper than a Tacoma.
Damn. GM just gave up on these smaller trucks. Wish it wasn’t so
It’s not a bad looking truck I guess especially considering what the Colorado started as 15 years ago or so. But I just can’t deal with the GM reliability headaches anymore.
It really isn't however I think it really needs to stay competitive feature wise with the other midsize trucks.
I'm torn between this and a ranger. I've configured both online and the ranger is more expensive.
Ranger is fancier
@@somebodyandthem I got a 2020 lariat and love it.

Dealers that add a dealer ad sticker the cars they sell. Yuck. Wouldn’t buy it until removed.
Lawrence Widdis i know right! They should be paying me if that want to advertise there dealer on my truck
I agree. I’m not a rolling billboard sign. If you want me to advertise your dealership, you better pay me.
225? Aren’t they 255?
Yes, they are 255. I think it was the angle I was looking.
Best red paint GM ever produced was medium Patriot Red metallic. Change my mind...
Never heard of or seen that color in person but looking at pictures, its a little dark for me. This color isnt far off though because they both look like blood red colors without any real pinkish tint. When Cajun and Cherry red is put side by side there is no comparison to which one look better.
For compact trucks things have been blown out of reason. Almost 40k? Why not a simple reliable truck with rubber floor mats, simple bench seat, and manual transmission like I bought when I got my first job. Truck was simple, reliable and I ran it 170,000 miles with no problems. Sell the new version for 20-24k. He spends most of his time talking about phone connectivity and a auto dimming mirror. Is it so hard to manually dim the mirror at night?
Looks super dated for a newer truck had one in 2017 looked about the same on the inside. I liked the truck over all strong v6 but all the wheel well molding started falling off at about 2k miles and one of my skid plates came off driving through a small amount of water when it was pretty new and Chevy wanted to charge my like $500 to fix it…
todds ideal truck
What no red tow hooks on the front? That is a total deal breaker!
Re watch the video they're very small but they are there... in all their red glory.. that's why I bought mine I think it adds around 10k to the value
there is no push-to-start button...
Look everyone! this will be the future "full sized truck" ( Ha Ha...full sized ) everyone might be able to afford soon.
조~오타
Looks like they continued to cheap out. I thought my 2016 should’ve had push button and 2021 still doesn’t! Jeez they’re cheap
they would claim High labor cost while their CEO's and VP's are being paid MILLIONS!!
Only real men use keys
The key has to be changed! To bulky
Pretty disappointed in this. I understand they’re getting rid of the babymax this model year. Hoping they put the new 3.0 in.
I have a 2019 and this is the same truck.
I haven't heard anything about the Duramax going away so far.
as a gm tech as far as im aware the 3.0 duramax is not going to be offered in the canyon/colorado but it has the 2.7 duramax
@@jaywebb0113 I believe the current engine is a 2.8 Duramax.
Disappointing. Should have more features for that crazy price. C’mon GM!
