even the subtitles agree, it does NOT sound like they're saying Pawn lol
That Australian accent will do you dirty if you're not watching it.
No. It. Doesn’t.
Good old Shadiversity p**n, we all love it, don't we.

xD I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought that...
Pawn! He said pawn! That's the second time I fell for that.
Sure sure he did
Shad made a WHAT???
Oooooh... Paaawn. I totally thought he said something else.

It's like mega shrimp.
We all did.
After this episode, Tyranth was approached by a small orange fat goblin named Ben and was never seen again.
So, Shad made a pown, and Nate likes choking his spear.
Tyranth on the other hand, will grab another man's dagger without hesitation.
He’s finally answering the question “what about dragons?!”
You must learn of their dogma.
Shad: "I made a pohn."
Me: "What?!"
Just him choking his spear and nocking arrows slowly.
In terms of necessary skills, trying to climb a dragon while wearing armor and fighting it is effectively like trying to rock climb with full camping gear and one hand tied behind your back in the middle of an earthquake. Maybe it's possible to develop those skills in the real world, but I think the fantasy people are better off letting ballistas and trebuchets do the heavy lifting.
Or just bring the monster down to their level. I feel like it's a lot more effort to climb a monster to attack its head than to just hack away at its ankles and knees until it falls over.
They do have magic users with some devastating spells. Never played another third person game that makes the spells you cast feel that powerful.
@@kurokaze511 it is a lot of effort. There are two reasons that dragon fight is key.
One is its a boss battle. It really shows just how powerful and epic a foe it is. Loved that battle all 20 minutes plus of it.
@@kurokaze511 Hacking at legs has a lot of disadvantages. First, they tend to be more armored than many other parts of the body for things with scales. Second, those attacks will never kill or neutralize the creature. Third in case of large stuff...you're literally asking to be trampled on.
Legs are weapons. They are very destructive and very powerful weapons. The last thing you want to do is attack the weapons of stuff that's many times larger than you.
@@kikixchannel Yep, it'd definitely be a helluva risk to do. If you can shoot it with some big projectile (IE ballista) that'd be the obvious course of action. If that's not an option, the validity of attacking the limbs would come down to whether you have a weapon that can even penetrate deep enough to cause any real damage, and whether you're able to land a hit without getting crushed or flung in the air.
Everytime they say "pawn" it sounds like they are replacing the "aw" with "or". It is hilarious, shocking, and traumatizing.
I am pretty sure climbing something like a cyclops would be a death sentence.
Humanoids are literally made for grappling and grabbing.
there are slightly smaller giants call ogres that will if climb them drop to ground and roll around. so yes climbing too long can be deadly.
humanoids when they have arms that can reach around their back
With the big blade, you could go for more glancing hits so that you carve chunks off of the monster's calves/ thighs
in your dreams. Dragons in fiction are dumbed down so the "hero" can kill them. They just wait around and hiss at the character. But something like that in real life would be AT LEAST as dangerous as a polar bear.
@@Revon-Feuer Yeah full phalanx with metal faced shields is your only chance.
@@NamelessKing1597 Yea, assuming the dragon just stands there and let's you stab it. And, doesn't have it's own spear.
Pommel bash would do nothing to a dragon. I work on a bull stud and you can swing an axe handle at them and it's just a way to make them notice you. To be clear I'm not trying to hurt them the beef bull's weigh around a thousand kilos and are designed to fight other one ton bulls. Without a blade blunt force save for a sledge hammer to the right part of the head does nothing.

They're hitting the tree like they're sparring with it. Wish they went more into the power generation of the hanging stance.
Yeah, I did this actually, but they didnt invent cameras yet and the painter wasnt looking.
Was shown a Dragon’s Dogma 2 ad in the middle of watching this 😂
Do dragons in the game not have scales?
When you explained the premise, my mind immediately went to a war pick or other one-handed weapon designed to use against gaps in human style armor in order to get between or under the dragon’s scales.
If getting under scales is the best option, you will be limited to underhand blows assuming you’ve mounted the dragon frontwards so to speak.
They do... but the dragons have weakpoints that reveal themselves over the course of the battle. The default one is the head... but the best one is the heart which starts glowing super hot once the dragon gets excited.
But getting under scales isn't that easy. It's not like scaled animals like reptiles have loose scales that you get a weapon under easily, they're actually pretty tight against each other with a layer of skin on top. And you're assuming that dragons have your stereotypical heat shield shaped overlapping scales and not pebbly scales likes those of some dinosaurs and monitor lizards and that under each scale or simply embedded across the body there are no bony scutes as found on crocodillians as well as some dinosaurs.
I'll have to consult my local bard. He's always boasting about the dragons he's mounted.
For a giant lizard you would need a pointed weapon to slide between the scales and it would need to be long enough to reach something vital. Climbing in front of the shoulder, at the base of the neck, would likely be the safest spot away from tooth and claw and provides access to the neck artery or esophagus. Blunt force would be useless against a lizard.
I was glad Tyranth mentioned monster hunter because that was my first thought and it’s just as appropriate for this video topic. I also have a massive bias because I love monster hunter.
i wish nathan would talk even when behind the camera, i enjoy his presence.
This is ridiculously hilarious. I like this episode. I find it ridiculous that in Dragon's Dogma that you can hold on for dear life while the Dragon was moving around and flying. 😂
We can’t even climb a wolf Komodo dragon let alone a silver back… try and climb a bear and attack it.. 💀
Shadow of the Colossus does something similar.
You also can't teleport, turn invisible, shoot magic arrows, summon tornadoes, or pick someone up and throw them overhanded 20 feet... It's a fantasy game, it'd suck if the character had your limitations.
@ChrissW528 All I said was that the climbing on giant creatures like a very agile dragon was ridiculously over the top even for a fantasy game, not being able to use magic. Skyrim was & still doing fine without the climbing ability. So what limitation? 😉
I wish we could see what kind of damage is possible from these awkward positions. Seems suboptimal for most things.
Shad's pawn has been making the rounds through the internet. He's becoming quite the Pawn Star.
There are reasons knights swap to their dagger when they've got another (plate armoured) knight pinned down... Although I guess a dagger wouldn't go very deep into a giant animal. You might need a great dagger for that, a kriegsmesser, if you will.
"You gonna make pawn for that?" IM DEAD
I'm an arborist so put a chainsaw in my hand instead of a sword and that is basically me all day long. Added Dragon's Dogma 2 to my Steam Wishlist after watching a gameplay video. It looks nice and gritty with some really awesome combat and the clinging mechanic is cool. Hope to get around to playing it someday. Looks like y'all had some fun making this video. Thank you for the laughs and the work. Only creators understand what it takes to keep putting out content.

The dude on the right is holding a spear, and an ax in the same hand.
Boys I got an idea. What if we tied them together so you could stab, while you ax.
Guy who invented the polearm:
I think you would actually want a decently sized stabbing sword, like a rapier, for these climbing attacks to be meaningful. With such large beasts, unless you attack eyes or other extremely vulnerable spots, cuts are going to be really superficial, and axe swings won't have the full force necessary to do proper damage. What you really need is deep stabs that cause major internal bleeding or reach critical organs, otherwise you're just wasting energy.
I think there is a chance for axes if you rise them above and swing down (near your legs) using gravity for power. It wouldn't work with Shad's set up, as they would hit the ground. The only way something like dagger could be useful is, as you say weak points, or maybe as an distraction from other fighters, as we are doing papercuts to these giants. Maybe a death by thousand cuts would work, but who would have the stamina to keep on climbing and cutting for hours?
@@linkolek I think it would still be awkward as heck trying to get that powerful swing with an axe while holding to a beast. Stabs would be awkward too, but a single good one could easily be lethal. Daggers could also still have a use, but again, probably long and thinly-profiled ones, like people historically used to stab through less protected spots in armour, rather than your stereotypical fantasy knife.
Death by a thousand cuts has the problem of taking a lot of time, and the beast is actively fighting you and trying to throw you off in the meantime. If you decide to climb onto it instead using polearms/spears and controlling your distance, you have to be pretty sure you can do some real damage.
@@alchemik666 Depends on the axe. Ya good pick axe or hand axe would work well.
Another weapon that work well would be a leaf blade or gladius type blade with a good stabby designed hilt.
A rapier seems much to long(and easily bendable), I would much more gladly use a stout-bladed arming sword.
Try it when the dragon is doing a barrel roll.
Of the weapons the guys are using I think a Daggers and/or Handaxes would be best! A character might be able to chop/stab into the monster as and use the weapons as climbing axes/spikes!
It seems that smaller weapons are more controllable while climbing!
Next video should be "Ride a Mechanical Bull" and attacking the creature too!🤔
Fun vid guys! Have a happy Easter! 🥚🐰🥚🐰🥚🐰
I love when you guys start joking around with each other. You guys remind me of monty python back in the days
other.You lmao
The group banter is at an all time high in this video, you guys mess with eachother like you're brothers lmao
I'm glad you guys are testing it while they are already on the monster's head. The climb alone would have you exhausted, wildly, since the monsters are swinging their bodies around. Like a Cyclops' arm or Ogre's drop kick into you or your allies oblivion.
The way Shad says Pawn is impossible to not laugh at.
XD so many innuendos. I always enjoy watching you guys. ^^ Thank you as always.
You know, driving a van through the Shadlands would be a great analog test for mounting a moving creature. Highly dangerous, yes! But a good nearest comparison.
when climbing onto a target to attack = maybe plunge a stabby point up high and allow gravity to pull down with your weight holding onto the weapon?
That's what they did in the Dragonslayer movie, actually. Plunge down from high up and drive the spear home as deep as possible.
What if with the two handed weapons you'd tuck the blade or axe head side under your hanging arm and use your torso to roll the weapon into your target, you can keep your arm relatively close to you and use your torso to produce force
love your videos Shad! keep up the great work!
by the way is your video "Shads REVIEW and FIRST THOUGHTS on Dragons Dogma 2!" supposed to be private?

Dunno if this was the first video with it. But glad to see you guys obtained a 3rd mic. Channel is really coming along. Love the content.
Side note, just finished Shadow of the Conqueror last week. Great read! Well done Shad. Any plans for a sequel?

Fuck yeah! Last few days o was patiently waiting for dd2 vids. hope we get review once you beat it on one of the two channels!
Great video!
Huzzah! This video finally showed up in my recommended list (I'm a subscriber). Google, please continue recommending to me because I really enjoy this type of content.

Shad had about a gallon of coffee and looooooots of sugar before filming this one lol
I guess you can also use it as a hook and shove the weapon in your enemy, then lacerating the body. But that would take a lot of chance and power.
Them saying 'pawn' gives me the "All the neighborhood kids love playing on my deck" energy.
In dragons dogma to get the mystic spearhand you need to find Sigurd in melve after you finish the monster culling quest or you can find him at the other town where you fight the saurians in the monster culling quest for anyone who doesn't know
PS mystic spearhand is absolutely awesome
I really like Mystic Spearhand. But, it also makes the game easy mode, especially once you get the Magick Shelde skill. Once you get good with that skill, you can near about forget you and your party taking damage. From anything.
@@ChrisWilliams-lf8ex fair enough I prefer easy mode
@@serlusacan3880 Eh, I prefer the struggle, overcoming the challenge. But to each his own.
@@ChrisWilliams-lf8ex to be honest the dragons are still a pain in the ass
@@serlusacan3880 Yeah, it's their spells that mostly hit me with them. I usually carry a few copies of the Silentium book to deal with their bullshit.
And i thought Fremen Worm Riding would be tough, this definitely takes the cake.
if you are still into that super bit yet usable sword project then I found something that might be pretty interesting/fun to try.
it is a super leightweight alloy which is many times stronger than even springsteel, next to that it also acts like springsteel meaning you can bend it and it will flex back, and it is also quite some harder than springsteel, with it's hardnes being roughly equal to hardened/tempered 1095 steel, even though it's hardness seems to behave weird since despite being labeled as only being as hard as tempered 1095 steel it will litteraly break and damage tools meant for much harder materials, I guess that might have to do with it's elasticity/flexibility since this alloy is so flexible you can just almost completely fold a sword made of it and it will still bend back to it's original shape, despite that flexibility it also still is rather rigid, so it won't just act like a rope or such but like actual springsteel.
and some other advantages like being almost completely chemically inert meaning easy to maintain.
only the making and sharpening would be hard to do(but I guess sharpening could be done using special diamond grid sharpening stuf or such, and probably ruby would also be hard enough to sharpen it).
I haven't seen it used in any sword yet, probably due to it being relatively new, and not being as cheap as springsteel(but still not to expensive either, cheap enough that it could even be used in budged swords of around €200 to €400) and the making proces being rather hard since most people reffer to how hard it is to work that alloy due to all those properties which just make it insanely strong and a little to strong for the tools).
but I would personally like to see such a sword, actually optimally would like such a sword myself aswell due to it being so strong and chemically inert and kind of a ultra durable sword which would be usefull when going to the dark ages or such where repairing a sword isn't really as cheap or doable due to them still using older materials.
someone however needs to make such a sword first and show it in use before it begins to be available on the market or through customorder sword makers. might be able to make one myself but don't have proper tools and so my method would be rather crude and not as good, while technically seen when mass produced such swords can actually be much cheaper and simpler to make than normal swords since they could actually largely cast them due to this alloys melting point while being very high still (compared to aluminium and such) is actually far more doable than steel, next to that it can be tempered and hardened in verry different ways making a sword cast from that allow actually usable unlike cast iron and such.
but I thought perhaps you might be that person who makes the first sword of that, would kind of litterally be the best word in the world if done properly, or well some might perhaps still beat it in some areas like some with insane hardness(tool some steels perhaps), but it would beat all general swords and also would allow them to be super lightweight as well as since it is way more tough allow to use very different much thinner or oddly shaped structures/shapes to or example make it even lighter,
as a example due to it's insane flexibility(but not compromising in rigidity) you could litterally make a sword where the edge is a very thin like like just a lint or rope like blade around a central frame meaning most of the blade is just air.
I love these tested vids 😂
They use larp weapons so infrequently that its bizarre and scary to see them waving them around and throwing them at each other this episode xD
lol. In some games they do have theses as weapons. Use 2 ice axes with lanyards that’s what they are meant to do… and no in the games they are not the modern ones but still work the same.
"Don't involve me in this!"
😂😂😂
Thanks!
Its very important that these theories are tested by professionals.
One really good thing about climbing on to a dragon’s back: it can’t reach you. No fire, teeth or claws to worry about. It can only try to shake you off 👍
Getting some videos recommended again let's go
Great video.
You should try a surface with a bunch of close together short ropes to simulate fur/hair/feathers for stuff like the chimera and griffin etc then a surface with crevices to simulate grabbing scales of a dragon etc.
Ha you guys made a Shadiversity pawn, awesome
I reckon if you get some momentum you could give a nice up swing with the back edge.
If these 3 go after a dragon then that dragon is going to be having a 3 course meal and that is for damn sure.
The captions made it even funnier.
I am enjoying it so far but with the big sword especially on the Griffin, depending how far up you climbed it, you also stab it in the neck you can also stab it between the wings. Does a lot of damage
Shad I need you to test jousting on skateboards.
It is something we used to do in my neighborhood as kids and I just now realized you would probably have a fielday with that video idea.
Rules are simple shields are optional equipment is equalized and 1 melee wep of choice. First blow attempt must be on board center arena then spar as normal.
I feel like your best bet for a long arm. when your grappling like that. Is to let go and give it a proper swing. especially with the axe, so it digs in. And you dont plummet to your death.
I will always watch when its dragons dogma
this was posted 8 days ago, I'm only seeing this on my frontpage now.

Unrelated Question; As someone interested in learning HEMA someday what would you recommend for a longsword trainer? Something well balanced that as opposed to my terrible cold steel one.
Man I miss the time I was with my buddies fighting dragons and monsters at the back when I was a kid
Daggers in dd2 are plunged into the enemy blade first, so are 1h swords
Shad made a pawn, Tyranth dropped the spear... this is going great so far XD
Come for the swords, stay for the banter 👍🏻😂
This is the best thumbnail they’ve made yet, I want behind the scenes on it.
Cool sword Shad!!! Where did you get that thing?
As much as I'd agree about wanting something more than a pommel bash or a downward slash after jumping off (heavy attack while mounting) I'd say it's the most viable attack using the weapon whilst mounted. It's damage ( not much but it's something) it won't throw you off balance as much as unsheathing and swinging the thing. It also would be deployable from more angles.
I think the pommel hits with the great sword are to indicate that you are not supposed to do that as a warrior. you are supposed to stay grounded and use your big sword or hammer to topple the enemy and then you go for the head while they are down. I think its game design laguage to show the player that classes like the warrior or the archer are not supposed to do mounted attacks
I will say that I've been enjoying dragons dogma 2. I too run an archer pawn with tarring and explosive arrows. Thinking of also adding poison arrows to her loadout. However I do recognize that it requires an investment from whoever hires her... it is fun though to see her apply effectively napalm to larger monsters.
Good stuff
PAWN with w, of course :)
