  • I am changing the impeller on a 2008 Malibu WakeSetter. The impeller is used was a Johnson 09-812B-1. Just a heads up the 1 at the end of the part number just means it includes the gaskets. If you have an Indmar that is a 1996 or higher this will work. To purchase the correct impeller here is a link to the ones that I use:

How to change the impeller. I changed my impeller every 100 hours. If you put less than 100 hours on your boat, I would change it every season. Make sure you change it in the beginning of the season. If you change it at the end of the season it will dry out during the winter and not last as long as it should. When driving your boat keep and eye on your engine temperature. If the engine temperature sky rockets, its propably the impleller failed because its not pushing water through the cooling system. I would always check your new impeller before you take it on the lake incase of a problem. This saves time and money! Trust me.

Thanks a bunch. The tip about putting a towel below the impeller is gold!

You are welcome. It helps if you spill some oil on the bottom of the boat.

Great video, bud. You didn’t use any of the black o-rings, is that because they’re not needed on your style of boat?

Anyone have clearance issues with the muffler? Maybe it’s a bad Mastercraft design but there is no space to pull the impeller out without disconnecting the muffler.
