    Epica is epic, simple as that:) There's some songs where Simone does the more morally ambigious lyrics and Mark or the choir does the positive stuff.

    I hope you keep going with Epica. If you've been away from the band for several albums, I recommend their newer stuff which is more prog-like. Here are songs to check out:
    * "The Skeleton Key"
    * "Kingdom of Heaven part 3"
    * "The Miner"
    * "The Final Lullaby"
    For the first two, you should prefer the "Omega Alive" live versions. "Omega Alive" was their pandemic project, a concert done in a studio without an audience. Later streamed and released as a DVD etc.
    For the third song, you should look for the live version where Asim Searah stood in for Mark (who was busy becoming a dad at the time). Asim Searah is the one who did the male vocals on that song, so it's really appropriate.
    For the fourth song, you should look for the official live video, which is the studio recording but uses footage of the band's 20th anniversary concert in 2022.

      Thank you for the suggestions I will have to look into this songs. I had no idea there was a Kingdom of Heaven part 3. That excites me. I will for sure add these to my list and react to them in the future.

      @@rebekareacts You bet! Parts 1 an 3 were both done at Omega Alive. You could do all three, they are so cool together, but part 2 lacks a good live version so you'd have to find the studio version with possibly a static image.

    Yeah, in this song Mark delivers the more sinister message, but it's not always the case, sometimes the harsh vocal deliver the positive message. Epica are in my top 3 favorite bands with Nightwish and The Warning. I recommend you listen to the newer Epica albums, they are great. And, if you don't know Nightwish or The Warning, listen to both bands. The Warning is a 3 sisters band from Monterrey, Mexico playing rock (incl. different genres, but always The Warning sound) - they are very outspoken about technology, medias, ets. have great messages too. the band is compose of Daniela (Dany) 24, guitar and lead vocals, Paulina (Pau) 22, drums and lead/backing vocals, and Alejandra (Ale) 19, bass and vocals An example of their message (think for yourself) is DISCIPLE - Live at Teatro Metropolitan, where you get to see how good, professional and how they love their audience and get the audience love and energy back.

      Thanks for the reminder about Mark's part. It's been a while since I listened to them consistently so I wasn't sure. I'm a Nightwish fan as well so I'll probably react to something of theirs eventually. I haven't heard of The Warning though I will have to look into them. They sound right up my alley.
