Adam Warlock: 10 Differences Between MCU & Comic Book Versions

  • Many many people feel as though Adam Warlock’s coming was just a bit too late. After all, some of the most important events in Marvel comics had already been adapted into live action within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Whether it be Civil War, the House of M storyline from Wandavision, or even the couple of days of Ultron that we've all decided to agree counts as an age for some reason, stories from the comics have been directly transferred to the screen. While he missed some big ones, Adam Warlock has finally arrived, but did you even recognize him? There are multiple differences between the Warlock we got and the Warlock we knew. In a word? Eyebrows. Let’s take a deep look at the biggest differences between the MCU Adam Warlock, and the one from Marvel comics right now.
    When James Gunn announced that the goofy kid with the eyebrows from We're The Millers would be one of the universe's most powerful and noble heroes, needless to say all eyes were on Will Poulter. Besides getting insanely swole, everyone was excited for this actor’s big break, but did he deliver? You decide. What I’ve decided however is that there are some large departures taken from the source material. Whether it’s his origin, his power levels, or his overall demeanor, Adam Warlock sure seems different in live action. Time will tell if this big dumb oaf is one day destined to be the savior of the universe. He's already displayed an impressive amount of power that with some tender loving care could grow to meet his comic potential. but for now I would recognize Adam Warlock on a Netflix stand-up special before I'd recognize him as the wielder of The Infinity Gauntlet and savior of the galaxy. What do you think is the biggest difference between the comic and MCU versions of Adam warlock? Be sure to like, subscribe, and leave a comment so you can know when that piece of metal on Adam’s head actually becomes useful for something.

    It's a bit odd such a powerful significant marvel character was so childlike but it gives him opportunity to grow and develop into his own super badass, serious character which I think will happen. That's basically what happened to Wanda. She's gone from being someone who was being protected by Hawkeye and was alot more childlike and not that powerful in age of Ultron to being one of the most badass and possibly the most powerful MCU character

    I always felt that the MCU had originally planned to do the infinity gauntlet storyline accurately. This is bc of a couple of things. One is when the Other said to Thanos, "To challenge them is to court...death." and then Thanos turns his head to smile at the audience. This scene pretty much teased Mistress Death and his love for her. Idk if others caught that but I did. But she never made the cut. Another thing is yes, maybe that cocoon thing in the after credits of Thor 2 but also when Adam was teased in the after credits of Guardians 2. The reason I say this is bc this was way before Infinity War came out so I was expecting for Adam Warlock to show up and lead the Avengers, She-Hulk(with better writing)F4(solo movie 1st), Silver Surfer (solo movie 1st instead of Captain Marvel), Nova(solo movie after Guardians 2),and X-Men(solo movies)against Thanos. Once that backfired, Silver Surfer would come in and try to steal the gauntlet like the comics then also I thought infinity war would introduce the cosmic entities and then they would lose and eventually after Thanos gained the powers of Eternity(end credits right here for cliffhanger) (next movie)Nebula of all people would get the gauntlet like the comics. And Adam would get Thanos and everybody else's help to get the gauntlet off her and Adam finally getting the guantlet for himself with the movie ending on Thanos and his farm thinking on his victory and his taste of "godhood". In the after credits, Adam visits Thanos in his farm and has a chat with him and leaves. And then Thanos starts thinking of his next move. Then the 3rd movie could be based on Infinity War comic after the prologue with Adam the council for the infinity gauntlet with the living tribunal which he would have been introduced in the infinity gauntlet movie(avengers infinity war). Possibly later on, Thanos would go for the Heart of the Universe and even later on get the powers of the one above all and become Astral Regulator Thanos. But the one above all has yet to be introduced. This is why I think they should have kept Thanos around and not have trashed him like that. Of course I was expecting ALL of his comic powers and abilities and durability, cosmic awareness,etc. But yeah, this is how I thought it was going to go. For both Adam and Thanos. Last thing is the heroes in the infinity gauntlet storyline, NEVER beat Thanos. Thanos just oftentimes let his cockiness get the best of him and slightly gave the heroes an advantage but they never really defeated Thanos like the movies did. I wish that was adapted bc that would be a change of pace from heroes beating villains to now some villains can't be beaten. At least by conventional means.
    Side note: I wish they would have done a Thanos Quest movie and also just give him a proper origin movie too.

      As a movie studio who cannot do what animation and comics can do with live action combined with the schedules of different actors and staff, they are doing the only thing they could with what they have. Without the Xmen, F4, or the rest of Spiderman's rogues gallery, it would always be somewhat misused. They were the only ones doing the comic connections and doing it well enough.

    The MCU doesnt really adapt the comics. They take ideas, themes and designs and make completely new stories with them. Nothing in the MCU is accurate to the comics, expect for some very early phase 1 origin stories(and even then, only barely).
    This is also why you cant just read Secret Wars or Kang Dynasty and expect to know what happens. Its an adaption in name only. Will likely have nothing in commen with the source material. Heck, Infinity War in the comics isnt even the OG Infinity Gauntlet story. Thats called Thanos Quest.

    • @harrambou9468
      @harrambou9468 Před 10 měsíci

      To be fair though, they were on a hot streak for a while.
      Iron Man. Iron Man 2. (Yes, I said it. It’s underrated.) pretty much ALL of Phase 1. Iron Man 3 wasn’t that great but it sure looks good in hindsight. ‘Winter Soldier. GUARDIANS 1. 🔥
      I would argue the problems REALLY started when they chose to change characters on a fundamental level, like Hank Pym not having any connection to Ultron, Spider-Man not being a real hero, Drax not being well-written after GoTG 1, Adam Warlock being a punk bitch in GoTG 3… 😤
      You could argue Hawkeye fits that too but…in his case they had an opportunity to add to him in AoU, JUST LIKE Hank Pym. I still find AoU underrated and enjoyable, and Ultron’s better than ppl give him credit for…but man, so many missed opportunities.
