So sorry . My grown children dont believe in Jesus anymore . Such a burden but yours is worse . IM sorry . U will see them as all children go with the Father God cuz they r too young to make a decision .
The writing here is brilliant as is the performance of Sade Thompson in particular. The mixture of the lingering effects of tragedy on present realities mixed with mundane components like slip covers, love, and humor is a true slice of life. I think I appreciate this television series above all others, and for those who were deprived a loving family this show instills what one should be like
Family was such a great show !!I was 11 years old when Family began in 1976 a My mom loved it . We watched Family , Quincy , and McMillan & Wife all the time. It could have ran another couple of Seasons had ABC given it the chance but ABCTV pulled the plug just 13 epides into its 4 the season in 1980. Great writing , great direction and an ensemble cast. Thank you ever so much for Family uploads😊❤️❤️👍👍⭐️⭐️💯💯🇨🇦🇨🇦
@@pjpredhomme7699 Yes very good times indeed !! We only had one television in our house when I was a kid in the 70s in our Family room so often it was shared with my parents .,As a kid in high school in the early 80s I was thrilled to have my own tv in my bedroom and a phone Woo Hoo!! Big deal then !! But watching Family and the tons of made for network Television movies was something as a small kid I did a lot in the 70s. Special times with my beloved parents !! Miss you Mom and Dad God Bless you both!!
I was born the year this show premiered, and in all this time I’d never heard of it until now. I adore it. It’s the type of TV my family gathered around when I was a youth. My Mom passed away a year ago and it brings back many fond memories of her and those moments. So thank you for posting these episodes. You’ve no idea how much of a warm blanket they are to me.
Thank you for putting this show on youtube. Its wonderful and brings back memories from my childhood. My mother watched this show every week without fail.
Thanks so much for uploading all these episodes. I was having my babies during this time. The comments about the rubber pants brought back all the memories of washing all those cloth diapers and worrying about the baby pins. You don’t realize how much life changes while you’re living it. I loved this show but didn’t get to see all the episodes before. I really appreciate them now.
Kristy McNichol is so good in this episode! I've worked in the industry and have directed scripted drama in the one hour format. Looking back on this, that young lady blows me away! Child stars so often have terrible, traumatic childhoods, and I can't blame her for running screaming into the night- I've threatened to do it on so many occasions- but I wish desperately she'd come back and work, if only for old times' sake. I'd be happy to write something specifically for her... she deserves better than what she got.
@@debbieschultz9768 I do agree with you. As an old industry hack, I can tell you that Hollywood has almost killed me on more than one occasion, and sometimes leaving is the best choice one can make. I just think it's a tragedy that someone who is so good at what they do (real talent is rare) should be forced to make a choice like that. I think Kristy McNichol was a treasure, and I wish so much I could have worked with her at the height of her career. Of course, I'm only a year younger that her, and at that time I was a mess myself, an aspiring novelist, smoking dope and using heroin and not much good at all to the Hollywood establishment, men like Aaron Spelling...
I think Charles Lane was the first of three actors to play James Lawrence. Later we saw David Wayne and Henry Fonda play James Broderick’s (Doug Lawrence) father.
There were four. John Beal appeared twice: once in the Xmas episode where he showed up with a girlfriend and once in the episode with Doug's alcoholic sister.
Did anyone find this episode gut wrenching to watch? I am glad that they replaced Nancy in the second season by hiring Meredith Baxter Birney. I did not like the first actress that played her. Anyway, this was so hard to watch as I felt bad for Buddy. It seemed like she hated Timmy and was acting out when it was that she was still grieving for her late older brother and didn't know how to explain or express it. And she also felt responsible for his death. That is why it was tough to watch and brought tears to my eyes, but I liked the heart to heart that Doug and Buddy had at the cemetery. Buddy telling her father that she felt like for so many years she was responsible for Timothy's death, and that Nancy and Jeff renaming the baby Timothy was disrespectful. Doug then told her that no one was at fault for what happened. And that giving the baby Timothy's name wasn't a sign of disrespect, but actually a way to honor him and as a way to help the family to never forget him. Then they both grieve with one another. And at the very end, when they return home, Buddy finally accepts the baby being named Timmy.
11:19 Does anyone else think this picture looks very strange? The kids' heads look like they don't match the bodies, and the faces look as if they are badly photoshopped...and Timmy's upper body looks like a very short man's!
Agree. Back then folks couldn’t freeze frame the way we do today. They thought they could get away with bad photo retouching. The term “photoshop” didnt exist yet.
Originally this show was only supposed to run for 6 shows. When they decided to pick it up for a full series she didn’t want to move on. Apparently there was another woman who played Nancy for one show. She didn’t work out. So they got Meredith Baxter Barney.
@@SnazzyDetritus True. The late J. Paul Getty refused to pay the ransom when his grandson was kidnapped until it was lowered significantly. And when his grandson tried to call to thank him for paying what he did and saving his life, Getty refused to come to the phone to speak to him because he had to pay a few million dollars ransom even though he was worth billions. This was his grandson, his flesh and blood. Come on now.
Joann Ross No, it’s not like that at all. It helps heal the hurt and it means so much to hear the name of our loved one. And the baby grows into his own individual so it’s not just a reminder.
Great episode with a not-so-great Nancy. They really went in another direction with Meredith, both looks-wise and personality-wise. She really owned the part, though.
Yes. They seemed to have written Nancy to be entitled, self-absorbed and immature Birney did a great acting job. It's kind of weird how they scripted all three kids' characters as selfish, whiny and spoiled. Buddy was better than Willie and Nancy but still spoiled. I guess the writers and directors thought it was cute. I still don't understand why people think the people represented a "heartwarming", realistic "family". The slipcover thing was ridiculous, too.
@@jenniferwilcox9759 Yikes - hope you didn't have kids . She is upset about her younger brother dying - and does not know how to express it - or herself - there was little way to know how to deal with something like that then . She was a very sensitive girl with a lot of changes happening to her and she did not know how to deal with them - It is part of why it is a brilliant show
Their house is beautiful 😍 One of my favorite shows of the 70s.

We should start a campaign to get the show back on METV for at least 3 runs...
Agree. They need to have all of the shows.
No one wearing a seatbelt...the daring 70's.
that was the norm then - at least with anyone that I knew
Kate looks so pretty in about any color

Kristy no longer wanted to work. She was going through some terrible times. It was her decision which made it right

Charles Lane was in everything!!!
That has to be the most sparsely populated graveyard in the world.
One of my fav shows
The fat farm 😂 I love this show!!!
Omg it's ok it's been five years how horrible
This is how parents were
Didn't they have lifejackets on?

I watched this as a child, and never knew about the deceased sibling.
I love the set decorating.

Looked like they cut heads out and pasted on other bodies😂
Kristy was a great actress ❤
I miss the great quality of phones back then!! Everything is so badly made now,,, Even cell phones are made in cheap china!!!!
When does Meredith Baxter start to play the older sister? Anyone know why the change?

First Nancy..Not so good. Glad they replaced her!!!
Even though this show was made in the 70s, there is a refreshing lack of avocado green and wicker. Not sure how they managed that.
nancy calling Timmy Timothy... also calling Jeff Jeffrey
I saw Charles Lane as the lawyer. That man was in all the shows back then. When did he get a chance to go home 😮???
I dont think they ever spoke of the child they lost in any other episode.
They spoke about him in several episodes.
Wierd his photo isn't with the others, isn't it?
Buddy acts pretty spoiled😣a large majority of the time in this series....I couldn’t have gotten away with a fraction of what she did at the same age!
Yeah, she was a real brat.
Her character was in a lot of pain in this episode and she was acting out. Kristy McNichol was a superb child actress though
She’s a little girl who’s brother name was given to another baby. Also, she believed it was her fault.
hope that worked out well for ya
so surprised Doug complains about money... he's a lawyer
rich people complain about money a lot. especially when they have to pay someone for their work.

That's how old money stayed rich. Stingy as hell...

naming Nancy's son after their deceased son... i would think it would bring back bad memories... not that they would forget...

How did the son die?
He drowned. It was explained by Willie.
