I think the moment at 6:22 shows beautifully that you haven’t broken this dog by correcting her, or scared her in any way. She was corrected, listened and then immediately expected a belly rub. That’s a comfortable dog who’s understood that the correction was about the behaviour, not you asserting some stupid sort of dominance and you being generally aggressive and untrustworthy. Love it!

actually that can be a cowering position for dogs, not asking for belly rubs. in fact you can see that dog is stressed by the way its panting with its mouth stretched at the sides. in a few shots you can also see the tongue flick - another sign of a stressed dog.

true!! and thank you for saying this because it helps me remember the same thing about my dog! sometimes i worry he will become afraid of me because of me correcting as best i can, but he still comes up excitedly to me everyday and gives kisses and rolls over for belly rubs!! so i know he's okay, and he still loves me. man, dog training really is hard 😭😭😭 (especially if your puppy has some pretty intense behavior problems like mine does)

I tried to follow this advice a little while ago but my 5 year old daughter got upset thinking I was being cruel to her puppy, so at best it was a half hearted attempt. Today, I had a rare hour to myself. At first my attempts to stop the puppy (pug by the way, about 4 months old) were pretty fruitless. I think my advice is, if they still see biting/attacking you as a game, then you need to be more harsh. I was in a room with a lot of space, and it got to the point where I was pretty forcefully pushing him away, quite some distance. I never struck him, more of a very firm push, and he was never going to hit into anything, but I was getting stonger in my resistance to him biting. Less than 20 minutes later he was much more calm, not nipping me or bitting me, lots more licks and still a bit of teeth on skin but nowhere near what it was. We went out to a kids party and after coming home he was much better. A tiny relapse but with another firm push away he is as good as gold. I'm expecting to have to reinforce this in the coming days, but following the advice above the change is pretty remarkable. Don't be afraid to be strong if you need to would be my advice, so long as you won't physically hurt the dog. This bloke knows what he is on about. He's the dogs bollocks.

Brandon mcmillan is the most gentle, thorough and effective dog i've ever encountered. My friend and i love the dog show and never miss it. So many times we've shed a tear of happiness just seeing a dog's life changed forever when proper training is applied and they go on to live their lives the way they should. I have brandon's book czcams.com/users/postUgkxK8-VQWpYThx4IC6MiIvb6VS1ebTzzdxq in two formats. Not only the paperback version but also the kindle version to refer to when i don't have the paperback along with me. I have used his methods with my cavalier kc spaniel and turned a non-disciplined furbaby into a companion who has traveled thousands of miles with us across the country. He is a near perfect dog thanks to brandon's methods. I don't get one cent of kickback for recommending brandon but i do it because i love dogs. They deserve to be given a chance. Brandon's mission in life - to rescue dogs and place them in a forever, happy home - is very dear to my heart. I recommend his methods to anyone who has a dog - young or old. I've seen him take even old dogs and teach them. Brandon was an animal trainer before his current mission. His parents were animal trainers. His methods are the best i've ever found. Your furbaby will thank you for spending the money on this book. Don't hesitate - it is worth every cent.

This video was so beyond helpful. My 6 month old German shepherd puppy exhibits intense mouthing and I was previously unable to achieve that “off” command. I quickly realized that while it may feel a bit uncomfortable giving an intense hard correction, once I exceeded my pups intensity she caught on very quickly. I was below her threshold of intensity before, and she wasn’t understanding that enough is enough. I will be incorporating this into training/play time every day! Thanks for the awesome content!

@@catalinababy6068to my understanding it is in a claw like position. If you would put your hand on the table it would look like a imitation spider lol. Now when the dog does the undesired biting you tap them on their side depending on the intensity they are acting up. If the active response does not affect them then you will need to intensify the response till they stop.

And its a learning curve for everyone on how best to teach and since every dog is slightly different we have to keep reimagining the possibilities of how to learn. ^^^ This, 100%. I've been training dogs since the early 70s and this is exactly how I train and people are always amazed at how quickly I can change a dogs behavior AND how quickly the dogs bond with me and want to be with me.
Also, listen to what he said about the 'No' command. Again, I've been saying this exact thing as long as I've been training. It simply means, 'Stop doing what you are doing, do something else'. Once the dog understands that concept, the relationship with your dog will change for the rest of your life. No is the absolute PERFECT command. I do not use 'leave it, stop, don't touch, blah blah blah'. I always use 'no', because it means, 'stop doing what you doing, do something else'.
A big thumbs up and a new subscriber. Thank you.

Thank you! I was having issues with her listening to my corrections, but that is because her biting and dominance and aggression are actually at a high level and I am not correcting at her level or higher... I did notice yesterday she listened to the corrections more bc I was doing it more affectively like this. Thank you for these videos... My puppy pit rot mix is going to be such a great dog after we work through a few of these issues. She's a good girl now of course, but a crazy wanting to own the house little pup... And she hates being told what to do... But now I know I'm doing the corrections better and she's listening. I'm so proud of what we have already accomplished and I can't wait to accomplish more with her! My sweet little crazy lady Ophelia! ahaha! All because of great videos like yours!

I just bought a yorkiepoo, 6 pounds, because he was terrorizing his family and they were afraid he would hurt the kids. At a year old they couldn't get near him if he had anything in his mouth. He also gets crazy mean at corrections and draws blood.
Within 3 weeks i can now take things away from him using the hold collar technique (because it was the only safe way) and I'm glad to see that it is an actual technique. I also substitute a high priority toy for whatever he has, that has helped.
He's much better all around but still gets crazy at times and it's hard to get near him to grab the collar without getting bit. He's not "love biting". So I'll just keep at it, the change isn't instant because he has a year of bad behavior to correct.
But there has been a dramatic change.
I'll keep watching, your vids are useful.

They really really really learn by touch and sensation even more than we do and they get "oh damn that's not a good time for me!" vs "WOW this is the best time!" and they really really really want to go with the good time as much as they can.

One of the better videos i've seen on this, well explained on how to apply the slip lead and proper use and also explaining the desired results and what could have until you get it right. Also, good to see explanations on the dogs behaviour as it was happening. Sometimes most people don't talk about that and "home trainers" are left wondering if the desired behaviour is what should be happening or not.
i've been doing this with my pup, and he has been reacting the same way, barking from a distance and figuring out what's going on. Good to know it is a normal reaction and nothing to worry about too much at this stage.

Chew toys in place of my hands. Everything you have demonstrated is spot on! My last GSD

points of the puppy training. Thanks mate for refreshing me on those crucial teaching lessons.

Omg. Amazing. I just got a puppy that is 14 weeks old. Australian shepherd blue healer. Her bitting is uncontrollable. She is ripping my forearm with her baby sharp tooth instead of toys and biting my legs when walking. So after watching your video, I did your corrections and she is now ( in 6 corrections) a better and different puppy. I will continue to watch your training video’s because you are the best online training I have seen. You sure understand dogs. Thank you so much.

Great video! Thank you!! I have a GSD puppy who is 15 weeks today ( we know - we went to the vet for final shots!). He continues to "go over the top" and bites quite hard - my hands are dripping with blood - I tried the "holding his collar tightly and keeping his mouth away from me" method just about 30 minutes ago. He's clearly over-tired so he came in and had a quick puppy nap. He's settled down right now but first of all, you and your methods are SOOOO appreciated and thank you. I would've liked to see your hand shape and location of touch in slow motion so I could try it. I do think, however, I'm on the right track. I praise profusely ( which is why I feel so HURT emotionally when he bites me) ( See? personal!!??!!?) but I'm glad to hear that what I'm trying is ok to try and I wish he becomes a soft biter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You've posted your video at such a perfect time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
